although it's only two letters off, it's a shortened version of her name. it began with her parents, in part due to logistical reasons, as hyeon is the third out of four kids who share the same hanja 仁 in their names, and in part as a way of endearment. the pet name is really only used by her fam and close friends for whenever inhyeon feels like a mouthful.

queen inhyeon. she shares a name with the second queen consort of king sukjong of joseon all the way right down to the hanja, so she at times gets called this as a joke. it's a pretty tired joke, but she'll still entertain it with a small chuckle in response. in a way, she's glad no one will forget her name. in another, she's afraid that she'll be doomed to a fate of being inhyeon 2.0 for the rest of her life.
윤동무 yoon dongmu
comrade yoon. as a raging leftist in a playing field full of conservatives, she will have her fair share of being called a communist. although she is far from a communist, she only shrugs and embraces it. as a result, her class friends will jokingly call her this as 동무 is used in north korea as the equivalent to the soviet russian товарищ or the english comrade.
쌤 ssaem
teach. halfway into her first semester, inhyeon takes up a side hustle as a tutor for the daughter of the owners of the coffee shop that she frequents. although inhyeon insists on no formalities, the daughter initially gets into the habit of calling her 선생님 out of ultra politeness. 쌤, a casual variant, becomes the compromise.
when the words leave from her lips, she is habitually laid back in tone and attitude, as if she cannot be shaked out of a perpetual state of being assured. she typically goes about her daily life with the comfortable busan 사투리 that she grew up with and appreciates for its direct and honest undertones. she does have the capacity to slip into standard seoul without issue, but she only really does so in formal settings or within the classroom.
english fluent
it's pretty much an unspoken requirement, established by their dear american born and raised mom, for the yoon children, to be brought up as bilingual. this was mostly due to their mom just wanting more people in her circle to speak english with. thus, it's a common affair for mom and all the siblings to go the english or konglish route with each other, regardless of the setting, although dad is super clueless but just happy to be around. inhyeon is fluent to the point where she could be mistaken for a native speaker and is even in tune with all the slang and colloquialisms. she thanks her constant at-home exposure to american media and all of the summer vacations to the states - her mom's california hometown in particular - for it. one may ask if she finessed the system and took english for her h.s. foreign lang? the answer is absolutely.

her demeanor is customarily calm and collected, though at times formidable, but never merciless or apathetic. while she isn't miserly in conveying emotions, to a stranger her emotions may have a slightly polite and restrained quality to them. her hair is a dark brown so deep that it nearly presents as black, and it sits around mid-back length. for the most part, inhyeon wears her hair down and habitually tucked behind her ears, while saving buns and ponies for the laziest of days. her make-up tends to be on the natural side, putting more focus on enhancing what she already has, but she probably won't leave the house without a lip tint or gloss. she also has her ears pierced, but she tends to go without earrings. when she does wear them, she's likely sporting the gold hoops that her parents gave her for her 16th revolution around the sun.
inhyeon describes her style as being casual chic and a constant homage to fashion trends of the past. she has a preference for neutral tones, but she appreciates a pop of color or a wild pattern every now again. she also likes to mess around with layers and silhouettes. closet highlights include but aren't limited to: cropped tops and cardigans, high-waisted bottoms, baggy vintage jeans, long skirts and dresses, oversized denim and leather, blazers, menswear section items, dad sneaks, and leather boots.

enter yoon inhyeon, solus. with a book bag slung onto a slender shoulder and an iced lavender latte in hand, she saunters into a massive lecture hall nearly devoid of other people. inhyeon, entirely in her element, subtly smiles to herself when she realizes that the jitters that most people seem to get when walking into their first ever uni lecture are non-existent within her. this is exciting, she thinks as she turns into a row and walks towards a seat in the middle. but before she can put her bag down, she unintentionally finds herself locking eyes with a stranger sitting a few rows back. it takes him only a portion of a second to register it before a silent panic surrounds him, and he doesn't know whether to avert his gaze or to force himself to say something. as if able to see his internal turmoil, she inwardly laughs and offers up a smile and nod in greeting. he eases up to return the sentiment and finally regains his confidence to introduce himself. "i'm shin woncheol, first year philosophy," he stops to think before proceeding. "would it be alright if i sat with you?" she already thinks he's harmless and pretty endearing, so she has no hesitation when she replies back with, "yoon inhyeon, also first year philosophy, and i don't see why not."
in her most routine form, inhyeon is more of the type to stand back and observe her surroundings before she involves herself in them. she considers her thoughts to be her foremost advisors in life, and she probably wouldn't have it any other way. in comparison to her best friend, seulbi's general attitude of charging head on with her eyes glued forward, inhyeon is more inclined to want to grasp onto a sense of control and assurance, and for the most part, she always seems to have the control and assurance that she strives for when moving along life. another primary factor to note is her tendency towards being self-reliant and independent; she enjoys her own company, and she can always count on her own support to get done what she needs to be done. she's even affirmed that she would be alright if there came a point in her life where she must be alone. she does like the company of others and can play the role of chameleon when found in social situations, but it's another thing for her to truly get to know people and let them in on her innermost thoughts and feelings. because she's mildly selective in this sense, the inner circle of companions that she has exists because she decided to give them a real chance.
perfection doesn't exist in this world, and even if it supposedly did, perfection is all too subjective for it to truly exist. inhyeon has her favorable traits, but she is by no means without her flaws. her persistent desire for self-perfection is one of them. while there is no fault improving one's self, she can sometimes go far beyond that measure, especially when this is coupled with independence and hardheadedness. this might even move into the territory of completely scrapping projects and starting from the beginning or getting stressed to the point of shutting everyone out. she has her ambitions and simply wants to live her life to her liking and expectations, but she sometimes loses touch of the fact that perfection doesn't exist in this world. on another note, it's said that if you want input on something, inhyeon is a good option to consider. she typically goes about it as, "do you want an assurance or the truth?" if you say you want the truth, make sure you can take the heat because she can come off as harsh and grating, and some feelings might get hurt. that isn't her intention. her honesty can be like a knife, but it's because she truly feels for others and actually means well. so maybe take the sugarcoating?
ironically [and hypocritically], she doesn't take so well to harsh critiques herself. her academic and political standpoints are her life, and as someone who is striving to be part of her country's leadership, though she very well understands that she will face those who hold different beliefs and is willing to hold calm and civil debates and compromise, it can be a little difficult for inhyeon to truly accept that, especially when dealing with issues of humanity. if the situation is so severe between her and another contributer, she can be prone to becoming more aggressive. if the situation becomes so beyond belief, the contributer may experience a door slam - she will politely and gracefully tolerate the other party but will not waste another breath. however, this doesn't mean that she has given up her position as that's not in her nature in the slightest. she's just like a common mule, obstinate and persistent in all of her causes but still packed with the fortitude to hit the high roads regardless of the terrain. she may not care so much for the rules either. she does appreciate structure - going back to her necessity for control and assurance - but she has no issue with opposing regulations that defy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
her faults aside, inhyeon is brilliant mind with the capacity to innovate new ideas and present a multitude of perspectives on a given topic. she likes her books and referencing back to historical events and methodology, but rather than sticking only to tradition, she strives to build upon it and explore experimental frameworks. at times, she receives criticism for being too ideal or too head-in-the-clouds for this, but she pulls through with her research, speaks effectively, and finds some joy in proving others wrong. she might not run head on into the future with her eyes glued forward, but she certainly does look into it with optimism. she is also a favorite among professors for her diligence and her desire to do her work proficiently and thoroughly, and inhyeon's propensity for reliability earns her a bunch of golden stars from her classmates and friends. a final point about inhyeon: she is a person who is extremely sensitive to others and always seems to know what they're feeling in any given situation. compassion is her favorite solution, and she tries her best to make others feel comfortable, seen, and heard. she's thought, if she can advocate for those who are unable to or have trouble advocating for themselves, why shouldn't she?

it had been nearly 11 years since margot jang left sunny san francisco for somewhat of a pilgrimage to busan, her grandfather's home town, and then made the decision to stay simply because she fell in love with a goofy naval engineering student with a huge penchant for boats. since then, she's gotten married to the very reason she stayed, yoon moonsoo who had since become a professor, has two girls aged 7 and soon-to-be-4, and has settled into a career in teaching english literature and language at one of the girls' high schools. it'd been a very fulfilling life thus far, and though she got homesick every now and again, she wouldn't trade it for anything. now, margot has found herself, yet again, standing in front of the bathroom sink in wait, anxiously fiddling around with the pregnancy test in her hands. she'd always adored the idea of having a large family, so when the test sequentially presented as positive, it was a given that margot wept out of happiness. then when inhyeon was born six months later, it was an absolute mad house in the hospital just as it had been for both of inhye and inna's births. family from both sides came far and wide for the occasion, making for a day full of positive feelings. and several days later, inhyeon arrived to the home where she would live out her youth.
so this is life's free-trial period.
