Updates + Q&A

Hi everyone! I was on vacation and I did not feel like writing anything. I wanted to relax and I have been focusing on other personal stuff, so I do apologize for the lack of updates. I hope that I have more inspiration so I can continue to write and bring you guys more updates!

I will also start more information on my crowdfunding - coming up soon!

Meanwhile, I will leave a small questionnaire here ^^ Thanks _Mirabella_!

40 Questions for Fanfic Writers

1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.

Angst, angst and more angst. Did I say angst? Yes, angst.

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

I want to try ABO, but I do not like MPREG a lot, and most of them have MPREG, so... Maybe sometime.

3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?

turning into love and mpreg (in real live situations - I understand if it is fantasy genre). Both are too unrealistic and... just, no.

4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?

To be honest, my ideas have decreased, I have written some though and I will get to them eventually.

5. Share one of your strengths.

My readers share the pain with my characters - they know what they are feeling and makes them emotional/cry, which I like. That's the intend.

6. Share one of your weaknesses.

My grammar isn't the best thing out there.

7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

"I have been writing you letters everyday without you knowing. Sometimes they are full of love, other times full of regret and hate. But the letter I remember the most is the only one you have ever responded to me. It includes fourteen sentences, eighty-eight words, eleven punctuations and not even a single truth." - Catharsis Chapter 10

I saw this in Spanish a long time ago and I modified it - I remember the original one saying something among the lines "I have been writing you everyday, but I still hate you", so I came up with this one and I loved it. I used it on this one because it fit the story. This is my most traumatic fan fic to date - I do not think I would be able to write something like that ever again.

8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

“Envy,” continued the elder, opening the door for the other. “Envy is the worst feeling a human can feel.”

“More than hate?” asked Jaejoong, strictly moving towards the pool table.

“Worse than hate,” answered back Yunho, putting money and waiting for the balls to appear as he placed the triangle in its place. “Hate is forgotten with time, envy is not.”

“But I hate your sister and my ex-best friend,” he admitted out loud, taking the pool stick in his hands. “They made me suffer and they made me like this.”

“But you’ll eventually forget about them,” replied the oldest, putting the balls inside the triangle. “See, the thing between those two feelings is that envy will always remain with you. You’ll always envy that you did not this or that. You’ll always envy that person because it was better than you in a certain aspect or because their luck was better. Moreover, hate will eventually be forgotten. It is born out of anger and when it appeases, it leaves with it. You can resent them, but you’ll let it go.”

“Then, I envy Yuu,” Jaejoong said with a bitter face. “He stole the most precious person from me.”

“No one is stolen, Jaejoong,” answered Yunho, ready to hit the balls anytime. “The person who wavers is because never loved.”

“You are saying she never loved me?” he asked, his eyes focused on the elder’s face.

“If she loved you, she wouldn’t have cheated,” replied the oldest, letting the pool stick hit the balls. He watched carefully the action on the table, half-smiling when a solid-color ball entered the hole. “If she truly loved you, she would have left you the day she felt something for another man.” - Metanoia Chapter 4

I really enjoyed writing this. It is heartbreaking, but it lays so much true. In the end, we are humans and commit mistakes - but we have to own them. We have to understand when we hurt someone to the point of breaking them. This is basically what it means to be cheated on.

9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?

I mentioned it on chapter 8, but another one is Glass. This was when I was moving on and getting into another relationship, but my best friend and now husband pushed me through it. I do not hate it anymore neither I hold onto those memories, but at that time, it was really hard to write.

10. Which fic has been the easiest to write?

For this one I have two. Serendipity because it was just fun! I liked the idea, I dreamt the idea and I wrote it in less than three months - which is surprising. I always take 1-2 years to finish a full series. The other one was Tides Waltzthe idea was fresh and I wrote it on my lunches. Since the chapters were really short, I finished it in about 2-3 months as well.

11. Is writing your passion or just a fun hobby?

Both, but I'm not good enough to be hired to write, so I am stuck with my second passion which is my day job. It is not bad, but I would love to be paid to write. It would be like an ultimate dream I guess.

12. Is there a moment above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

I focus on music, so I cannot answer this questions.

13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Always be you and write what you love. You aren't famous, but it doesn't mean you couldn't be or that you are lacking compared to others. You will shine on your own time.

14. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?

You'll never get money for writing - you are wasting your time. I understand some people won't reach that status, but that doesn't mean you cannot continue to write. Let this inspire you to move forward.

15. If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?

I have to say that Oxymoron would be the one, definitely.

16. If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?

I would say YunJae, but I am shifting to other pairings as well - however, they continue to maintain their positions after all these years.

17. Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

I outline what I want to write, but sometimes scenes come and I write them as well. I fit or modify them as the story progresses. If the idea is too great, then I write that first and then outline. It just depends.

18. Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?

I only do outlines, and I change as the work progresses. Like I say, it does depend on what I do. I have a tendency of changing the entire plot midway, so not a surprise at all.

19.  Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?

Music.

20. Describe your perfect writing conditions.

When I am depressed or stressed out, but I usually write my best when I am alone.

21. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?

I usually don't.

22.  Choose a passage from one of your earlier fics and edit it into your current writing style.

I think my writing style has continued to be the same throughout the years. The most that has changed is that I used to be very descriptive and I am more dialogue wise nowadays.

23. If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?

The ones I published are the ones I like and the other fics I have written, are saved. It is a reminder of myself that you can grow as a writer, so I would not change or revise any of them.

24. Have you ever deleted one of your published fics?

Yes, a couple of times. The plot just wasn't worth it or I was afraid of the change.

25. What do you look for in a beta?

I do not have a beta, heh.

26. Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you?

Nope, I am bad at that.

27. How do you feel about collaborations?

I am okay with them. I tried twice - one failed, the other was successful. She is amazing although she doesn't write as much anymore. I really liked how it came out. I would like to do some more with more YJ writers, but I guess that would depend in the future and how we communicate with each other.

28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

  • miss_sanzo - I really love all of her fan fics and she has inspired me for countless of them. Her stories have also helped me to get out of my writer's block. She has not written since 2015, but she has her LJ open for all of those old school YJ fanatics. She is my favorite writer ever and will continue to be until someone surprass her.
  • mearii87 – I have to admit she is not my favorite writer, but she has one of my favorite fan fics which is called law!verse and I definitely enjoyed all the parts of this.
  • o0yani0o – She is also not my favorite, but her fan fic My Bestfriend's Boyfriend inspired me to write Rehearsals for Silence and it continues to be one of my top fan fics ever.

29. If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

I'm not an avid reader anymore and the fan fics I read are completed, so none at this time.

30. Do you accept prompts?

Yes! I like challenges, just be aware it might take a bit, but I'll finish it. I would only do one shots, though.

31. Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?

Nah, I write what I want and that's it. All my stories are original and I can easily put other characters that are not idols. It is just easier for me.

32. How do you feel about ?

I write it from time to time, but I am not the best at it.

33. How do you feel about crack?

I'm not funny, so I won't write it - but I can read it just fine.

34. What are your thoughts on non-con and dub-con?

I only wrote a non-con due to child abuse and it wasn't very explicit - I do have to say it was the hardest thing I have ever done in my entire writing life and I will probably never do it again. For dub-con, I guess I have done when both are drunk. I usually don't write those because I don't like them and I try to avoid to read them as well.

35. Would you ever kill off a canon character?

Of course - I'm an expert at that.

36. Which is your favorite site to post fic?

AFF and AO3 for my other fandoms.

37. Talk about your current wips.

I have two, one here and one in AO3. A lot of people like them and it makes me feel great! I will update soon after I post this.

38. Talk about a review that made your day.

All of them make my day - I like when people comment, even if it's short and says 'thanks for updating'. They really care and are here to read - that's important for me.

39. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?

I only got one that said my Korean (I changed the title since then) title was wrong. And yes - the person was correct BUT the way the comment was placed, was to laugh at me instead of helping me out. I did not delete it, but I was very nasty towards that person. I usually don't get rude reviews or comments so I am grateful for that.

40. Write an alternative ending to [insert fic title] (or just the summary of one).

To be honest, I won't! I like all my endings and I would not change any of them. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
