40 Questions for Writers (tagged by hamsterboo)

Thank you to hamsterboo for tagging me LOL (I laugh bc we both know why you did it)

If you're reading this, you're tagged.

1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.

In terms of a setting, it’s so much more comfortable if it’s a modern or urban setting. I do really well with supernatural or fantasy elements. Some of the stories I’ve written that I love more than others include people with powers and a main character doomed for great destiny. Lots of angst but lots of humor at the same time. I’m not super great with romance by my standards but I like to include it in my stories.

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

There’s two big ones that I can think of. Social Media/Influencer AU’s are my weakness to read so I really want to tackle it.

I want to do a murder mystery AU but I’m just not smart enough to plot them to so I live vicariously through hamsterboo (go read Gambling with Death and Distant Torment.)

3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?

I used to really want to write a consensual but unhealthy relationship but I decided against it because at this point it would hit too close to home. However, SkyeButterfly wrote this really good fic called Red Mercedes and it’s inspired me so we’ll see. It could be therapeutic for me to write a dynamic like that.

4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?

SO MANY GUYS. Most of them are kpop fics but one of them is not. Won’t give away too many details but they are in development and I work on them when I’m not working on Forever or Immortals rewrites. If you read my stories, let me know which of them you're interested in reading!

Fire in the Heavens- An exorcist au featuring Taeyong and Jennie. The way I set it up is that there’s no romance but you’ll still love the dynamic I promise. Both of them fight demons, kick and uncover family secrets to help save the world.

Castle in the Stars- an EXO MAMA au. This one is going to be a mix of Sci-fi and fantasy. The Red Force is terrorizing the galaxy and only the warriors chosen by the Tree of Life can defeat it. It’s a concept that’s been done so many times but I do have a unique twist to it planned.

Streets of Gold- Huang Zitao is an archeologist looking for the lost city of El Dorado

Sinners- Kind of an exovelvet fic for now. Irene is invited to join a secret society for the rich and famous. (will include murders and heists)

Vanity- EXO’s beagle line are members of a rock band. They live in Calabasas. That’s all I can say about it so far.

i wanna be the very best- This one is a Boku no Hero Academia fic. It’s set during their second year at UA (which hasn't happened yet in the anime or manga so it'll be canon divergent by that point) Basically it will include Bakugou repairing his relationship with Izuku. All the main characters are getting power-ups. Shouto and fam healing and trying to accept Endeavor. I'm writing it to explore the characterizations so I don’t think I’ll include a ton of romance but if there is going to be any, there will be hints of Bakugou/Uraraka or Izuku/Melissa. Possbly Uraraka/Izuku or Izuku/Shouto. IDK you can basically ship Izuku with everyone.

Acatalepsy- A Fae au with Yixing as the lead. I’ve only gotten far enough for the plotting.

I have plotted out a few side stories for The Otherworld series for the following characters: Kyrios, Sooyoung, Jongdae and the next generation of Kyrios/Byun kids. I have not decided if I will dedicate myself to fully writing them though so don't take this as a "it's coming next" announcement.

5. Share one of your strengths.

I would say I’m really good at coming up with plots. I can form clear rules to fantasy worlds and supernatural powers. It takes effort but it’s minimal effort for me. Characterization also comes easier to me than other aspect of writing.

6. Share one of your weaknesses.

I have a habit of telling instead of showing. I need to work on taking the time to slow down the scene and focus on the details. (Editing Immortals is really helping with that)

7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

This is a part of the prologue for Castle in the Stars that I mentioned above. The names are not those of kpop idols because I am working on it in such a way that it can be transposed as an original work. I think it has brought out the my best writing so far though.

He was about to pull out his tablet to check the man’s location within the city when a deep rumble distracted him. The buildings had been so tall, blocking most of the sunlight from above that he had not noticed the clouds rolling in. He felt the first drop fall on his nose and he nearly fell backward when he drove himself cross-eyed when he stared at it for too long.

Rain only occurred during one month of the year on Agni. That season had already passed four months ago, which he knew only because he had made a trip to the Wastelands a month prior. A moment later, rain fell hard, pounding into his back as he walked, his shirt was quickly soaked through, oversaturating until the cloth was so heavy it clung to his body. With denim and cotton plastered to his body, he kept his head down and briskly walked through the crowded streets. The people of Agni had poured out onto the streets, arms wide with their heads thrown back to feel the cool water on their skin. He could understand why the children were running through the streets and splashing through puddles. Many adults had also taken a moment to stop and stare at the sky in shock. Terin could have wracked his brain to come up with an explanation for the sudden change in weather, but he had other things to worry about.

"Is this real? You don't think it's just King Imari of Sahgar visiting, do you?" a woman whispered to the man holding her hand.

The crowd's volume began to increase and it grew more difficult for him to weave through all the people, towards the main roads. A few of the children knocked into him and their parents gave him quite a nasty look. He pulled his scarf more tightly around his head and hurried away. The holo screens blurred with the presence of the rain, and the finer details of his face meant he could still go around unrecognizable. Unless someone had memorized his face and was looking for him to get their money’s worth. That wouldn't be good for him at all.

9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?

Of Gods and Monsters. I think the hardest thing to write is something you have no enthusiasm for.

10. Which fic has been the easiest to write?

Immortals was by far the easiest to write.

11. Is writing your passion or just a fun hobby?

It’s definitely just a hobby right now. It used to be a passion. I used to hold on to this dream of being a published author. Sometimes that feeling comes and goes.

12. Is there a moment above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

I would say the feedback I get is very inspiring. There are a few commenters on Immortals and Forever that analyze the characters and think of things that I haven’t even thought of. It shows me I have a long way to go and it helps me improve.

Also, music is a huge inspiration. The right song can help me write a scene the best I possibly can.

13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Write what you want to read. Ever since then, I’ve worked on making my stories good enough that I fangirl over them just like any other reader. It takes a bit of dissociation to read it as if I didn’t write it tho. LOL

14. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?

If you're going to write, be good at it. It took me a while to unlearn that advice. You do NOT have to be good at it to do it. You don't have to pursue something to the fullest. It's a freaking hobby. You can be yourself with writing and express your emotions the way you want to and nobody should give you for it.

15. If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?

I would say Immortals. I really hope we could get some nice CGI for it tho LOL I’d say that it might make a better webtoon/manga tho. Maybe an anime would be cool.

Yo if anyone’s good at art and wants to make a webtoon but has trouble coming up with storylines, hmu!!! :P

16. If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?

Honestly, probably Hermione and Draco from Harry Potter.

17. Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

Start to finish but I end up writing scenes for the future if the inspiration hits. For example, in Forever, there’s a half written scene that I’m probably not going to include for another 10 chapters or so.

18. Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?

I kind of just type out a bulleted list of plot points and start thinking about the who, what, when, where and why of it all.

19. Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?

exo and anime are my muses

20. Describe your perfect writing conditions.

Whenever I’m in my bed and my family isn’t bothering me and I’m not tired from work or chores.

21. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?

I write a chapter. I make Tri (hamsterboo) read it and she edits it. I read it over and sometimes add more stuff and then I make Tri read it and edit again. (Sorry to Tri for doing double the work)

22. Choose a passage from one of your earlier fics and edit it into your current writing style.

Read what I currently have up for Immortals. It’s going through a re-write.

23. If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?

All of them. LOL Anything I wrote before 2014 was absolutely horrible and unsalvageable. I’ve put all of them in draft mode or invite-only. If I were to revise one after Immortals I think I would fix up Hikikomori. I wrote it on a whim and it has so many mistakes that I think I might actually do an edit of it after Immortals is done.

24. Have you ever deleted one of your published fics?

Yes. You guys should be thankful I rid the world of that nonsense.

25. What do you look for in a beta?

Someone that’s better at grammar than me. Also someone that I can spill ideas to and help work through concepts and advise me on the nature of a scene Basically, you have to be like Tri.

26. Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you?

I guess I can call myself a beta for Distant Torment. Tri never really needs help with the writing aspect so I go through and read the scene to see if it flows and judge the kind of mood it gives off. Funny story, I had to remind her that Haeun had a cat in the early stages of the story LMAO

27. How do you feel about collaborations?

I used to be against them. The very first collaboration I attempted with an old friend on here fell through due to irl circumstances. Not to mention, she lived in a different country on the older side of the planet so time zone differences were difficult to navigate for communication purposes.

I think you have to have a certain level of synergy to be able to collaborate effectively.

Tri (hamsterboo) and I have known each other for like 5 years now and we know each other pretty well at this point. So go check out this collab we’ve recently decided to do together because it’s going to be fun: What in Carnation?

28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

hamsterboo: It’s the murder for me. She can write the tropes and plots that I can’t and I really admire that.

Korekrypta: Her stories are literal ART.

Emilieee: If you’ve ever read anything she wrote, it’s self explanatory

29. If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

I’ve come up with all the characters of Distant Torment’s college life so maybe that. I don’t think I’d ever presume to think I could continue somebody else’s art tho.

30. Do you accept prompts?

Not really. I think I’m kind of a control freak with my writing but when I see feedback for a chapter and it gets me thinking about what the characters could possibly do, I’d be inclined to include some suggestions.

31. Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?

I prefer canon compliant but I’ve found gems that take great liberties with the established rules of the “world” created by the original author.

I love canon divergence and complete different AUs provided the characterizations are faithful to the original character.

32. How do you feel about ?

Reading it is more fun than writing it. And when I write it I tend to focus more on the emotion than the actions

33. How do you feel about crack?

YES

34. What are your thoughts on non-con and dub-con?

Shouldn't exist.

35. Would you ever kill off a canon character?

Of course. I love writing a good death scene

36. Which is your favorite site to post fic?

AFF and AO3.

37. Talk about your current wips.

I’m working on rewriting Immortals and its sequel Forever. Both fics have a mix of supernatural elements and Greek mythology. If I had to classify it under a genre, maybe urban fantasy would be a good way of putting it. Immortals focuses on a girl that gets swept into this unseen world that’s always been around her and she finds out she has a destiny to fulfill.

Forever focuses on some of the side characters of Immortals and serves to finish their stories and expand on the worldbuilding that I laid the foundation for in the first story.

38. Talk about a review that made your day.

I think rather than mentioning one specific review, I think it just makes me happy when somebody leaves a comment or review where it’s clear that they’ve read the story and they THINK about it. I really appreciate it when someone tells me that a story resonated with them.

39. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?

I used to when I when AFF was more active back in like 2013-2014. If someone comes at me with rudeness, be prepared to be annihilated. I’m a real when I want to be. This does NOT include constructive criticism. I actually encourage it, but please present it politely.

40. Write an alternative ending to [insert fic title] (or just the summary of one).

This is just like major spoilers. Like what if you guys hadn’t read one of the stories?

But in Immortals, let’s say that Cordelia transferred Lamia’s soul to Soojung’s body. Essentially, the vampire world would have their queen back. Sehun and Lamia would have worked to repair their marriage. If she was still somewhat mortal, there would be no point in her trying to get back together with Zeus. Yeri would have to accept this and she probably would try to make things work with Jungkook. All four of them would be in loveless relationships and be miserable.

On the plus side, Seulgi and Jongin would still be a happy family with Taeyong and Yeri.

Baekhyun and Cordelia would have to keep guarding Cassandra’s chest for the rest of their lives. The Coven of Darkness would have a reason to come back and they would keep trying to assassinate Cordelia every few months. I would think it would take them a couple of years before they launch a full scale attack again. (Cordelia would just be like “not you ers again” lol)

Again, feel free to do this if you want to and lemme know if you consider yourself tagged. I'd love to read your answers.

Please NO. Like let's not even think about an alternative ending for Immortals. Like no. I think even if Lamia and Sehun try to work out their marriage, it's till broken and sooner or later it's going to end. However, I feel like Yeri and Jungkook might have a decent relationship as they did start as friends and let it develop further, whereas Lamia murdered everyone around Sehun but him because he was her misi psych. NO thank you. I feel angry even thinking about it ending this way, even though I'm reading Forever.

P.S. Byun/Kyrios children????? Don't get my hopes up!!!!!
