BACKGROUND.
hanee’s family is much like any other metropolitan middle-class family. a working father, a working mother, her and her younger brother. her father is currently working as an engineering director in hyundai engineering & construction while her mother is a kindergarten teacher . their family was able enough to hire a day-to-day housekeeper to watch the two siblings. she spend her first ten years in her birthplace of daegu before ultimately relocating to seoul with her family due to her father’s work permanently stationing him in seoul.
the void that formed due to her parents’ dedication to their jobs became evident but hanee never caved, she understood that their dedication was also to provide for her and her brother. she had friends that could help her get through it and worked hard to be able to satisfy herself and those around her. she easily integrated herself in her new environment. she ended up pursuing marketing as a major because she was always so confident in her speaking and the way she is interested in the art of promoting and researching the target audience. her parents were supportive of her choice as they’ve always let her do whatever she wanted as long as they could support it.
coming from an all-girls middle school and high school, she never knew much about interacting with guys except when she’s with her younger brother. during university, she keeps her distance from male students unless necessary but then, she was also twenty-one when she first met yoon jaeho. the rest was history.

DAILY LIFE.
working in a private corporation with a somewhat ordinary office job, hanee starts her day at seven thirty in the morning as she wakes up, eats a light breakfast and drives to work. it takes thirty minutes by car. she works from 8am to 9pm, sometimes until 11pm when working overtime. after spending all day at work, she takes a warm shower and usually sleeps around 1am after doing some household chores or interacting with her brother on the sofa.
she may be occasionally dragged into office drinking parties by her superiors, where she'd have to push back her sleeping hours to 2am or worst, 3am. friday nights are usually spent with her friends or at home just lying in bed, relaxing. thankfully, her office doesn't require her to go to work on the weekends so on weekends, she wakes up a bit late before going to a pilates class to unwind her stress. after working on weekdays, she'd try to spend time with her brother or friends on the weekends.
TRIVIA.

her adorable younger brother who grew into an energetic young adult, jaemin is tha brother who'd be a big pain in the but can also be the one who'd wish you only the best. the two don't bicker as much as they did. they tell each other things they'd never tell their parents and on a daily basis, would showcase their closeness on social media. they currently live together in hanee's apartment so hanee's become way too used to jaemin's shenanigans.

her senior in university who she ended up dating for four years until christmas last year. he was many of her firsts and for hanee who came from an all-girls high school, jaeho was just so sweet and reliable. they broke up when jaeho discovered his soulmate, which was another woman. when they were still dating, jaeho and hanee trusted each other and decided not to care about the mismatch of soulmates. they were happy together so why care? yet, hanee was betrayed and deeply hurt when after all that, the moment he came in contact with his soulmate, jaeho still chose to chase his soulmate instead of planning his future with hanee. it's been many months since the breakup and hanee's convinced herself that it's time to move onbut those around her aren't too convinced that she's 100% ready to.

hanee and subin went to the same university and crossed paths through ruda and remi who were closer to subin. they quickly bonded and had a lot of fun hanging out with each other, taking candid shots or real aesthetic shots of each other to brag about. subin is someone hanee can meet up any time, since subin's days are flexible. hanee's yet to master the art of piercing through subin and subin has yet to master the art of taming hanee's anxiety so there is a certain distance between the two. it was subin who introduced hanee to jaeho during her birthday party and after the breakup, hides a certain degree of remorse for introducing hanee to jaeho. hanee still sees subin as her friend and keeps her reassured that it won't change their friendship, but subin still finds herself verbally apologizing over what happened.

ji changmin is much like na hanee, in so many ways. more than you’d imagine. one that you’d label as the friendly guy in class, not many can point out something bad about him. he’s always so helpful and cooperative around others during team situations.
it’s his loyalty and understanding that his friends can really vouch for. he’d do what it takes to make a friend cheer up and will never let a small obstacle shake your friendship with him. his warmth and comfort is something that he tries to spread to those around him. he always wants you to know that he’s there for you and that he wishes only the best. his determination to achieve what he wants to do and his dedication to how he wants to achieve it are admirable to those close to him. he’s definitely the type to comeback stronger after a fall and he’ll let you know that through his process.

under that determination and dedication, lies a perfectionist in changmin. he’s always striving to get things done right and exact to the point of perfection. sure, it helps a lot towards the end product but it’s often damaging when he doesn’t give himself some slack for slow progress. his impatience may prove to be something that hinders his judgement at critical moments and others often tell him to slow down and learn to be more accepting towards the process. wanting something to be perfect too fast is a regular plot point in changmin’s life.
ji changmin is an easy book to read. he’s pure and rather naive, lacking the decent amount of craft that’s needed to get by the world on the daily. though he's not gullible, he’s transparent in the way he carries on his life and often gets hurt by the unexpected twists and turns in life as he’s always seen the best in others. often too merciful to the chaos and mischief that is unleashed when he’s around others, others always tell him to grow a spine and be able to learn how to say “no” sometimes. yes, if it’s close friends, it may seem fine to go along with the joke or skit but what if it weren’t his friends, how’d he get out of the situation then?
BACKGROUND.
changmin’s life has been simple but colorful thanks to the warmth of his family and the people who surround him. his mother and her relatives with his grandmother worked as they run their own restaurant in the market while his father was a professor in chungbuk national university. he has a brother three years older than him who now is undergoing pilot training upon graduating from the air force academy.

THEIR STORY.
one who never put much trust in soulmates, hanee fell for someone who clearly wasn't her soulmate, yoon jaeho but she didn't care because she felt so happy as she dated jaeho for four years. after promising to build a future together, hanee never expected jaeho to choose his soulmate who he met by chance over her. it's been a good seven-ish months since her painful breakup with jaeho and feeling guilty over her part of introducing hanee to jaeho, subin encouraged hanee to sign up for p.s., which she agreed to for subin's sake.
hanee couldn't believe that she got matched up with someone. ji changmin, a complete stranger. she was still not 100% over her breakup and made it clear as she wrote about the feelings and thoughts she was most unlikely to verbally tell anyone but also added how she'll acknowledge what she did wrong, what she can improve and how she wants to move on. she somewhat pitied this ji changmin guy as she also pitied herself every time she read her writings for him. they write to each other every other day, when hanee is able to sit down and write in between work and after work.
she knew that soon, the time for her to be happy will come. all this will pass. she'll start to feel better after writing to changmin and slowly become the na hanee before the breakup. those around her noticed, too.
changmin never expected to be matched up, only signing up for p.s. after being encouraged by lee jaehyun upon losing a bet. he also never expected his pen pal to be in post-breakup angst but there was something about hanee's writing that were wise, admirable and grown-up. he always replied to her with empathy and compassion, leading hanee to want to talk more to him. he always writes about his days and antics with his friends and it makes her feel warm inside, seeing him slowly share about himself to her. changmin started to grow respect and fondness towards hanee, seeing that she's managing her job, future career, and personal relationships with a personality he can't hate.
it would lead changmin to learn a lot from hanee and try to implement them in his own life. despite never having met her yet, he's really glad to have found her and be able to of help to her in some way by responding to her pains. he enjoyed the stories of her life, esecially when remi, ruda and jaemin come into the mix. hanee never brought up subin, knowing that it would be unfair for her to share things that subin may not agree with. deep down, for hanee, she's finally coming to terms with her heartbreak, for the better. she felt like she made a new friend she could trust.
FIRST TOUCH.
fate is a funny and meticulous thing. the first time hanee ever went to the bbq joint changmin works at, changmin was in charge of serving her table. hanee was unwinding after a day at the office with remi and ruda. changmin knew straight away that this can't be a coincidence. na hanee, who worked as an office worker and her two friends, do remi and ha ruda? such details matched his pen pal's stories. it couldn't possibly the same person. he could be easily mistaken.
but then, the first touch between them happened when hanee gives him her card to pay for the meal. hanee and changmin saw their names get etched. changmin quickly fled from the scene to take care of the bill, leaving hanee taken aback as much as her two friends who witnessed the scene were. when she got to the cashier and signed the bill, she looked changmin in the eye and said, "well, this in itself is fate so i think we should talk about it after your shift ends."
THE REVEAL.
after the first touch, they managed to get the facts straight. changmin recognized hanee from all the details his pen pal, na hanee told him. "na hanee isn't a common name," changmin said to her with a faint smile. hanee felt embarrassed and unsure what to do. the exact ji changmin she's been writing to, the one who she's been sharing with and can trust. "well, if you have anything to ask, don't hesitate to contact my number," hanee said as she gave him her name card, she was sure she was blushing. she watched as changmin sent her off with the biggest grin on his face. why was that big grin of his making her weak?
realizing that she's been writing to her soulmate, hanee went to subin for a talk to ask her why she didn't tell her. "i didn't want you to know right away, i know you would just continue hurting alone and i hate that it's kinda my fault but look! you're better now! i know changmin and he's really nice, you'd be missing out on a really nice guy!" subin knew she couldn't run away from hanee anymore. she couldn't hide that she knew changmin from a photoshoot in the past.
hanee was astute enough to know that subin still felt remorse over her decision to introduce jaeho to her. even after telling subin again and again that she did nothing wrong. she was just too indulgent towards subin to preserve the harmony. maybe i should've tried to break that wall of hers. this gave them the chance to be honest to each other, reconcile and move on.
hanee comes clean with not regretting her past actions and acknowledging that thanks to subin, hanee and jaeho had a good four years. she can never rewind the past but she has the power of choices over her present and future. "subin-ah, there's no need for you to be sorry for me anymore. i'm better now and it's thanks to you." subin does the same, coming clean to hanee about what she's been keeping quiet.
changmin knew that he was fond of hanee in many ways and the first sight of her as well as the first touch made it all better. she was pretty, cool and warm all in one glance. who knew he'd be thanking lee jaehyun for encouraging him to sign up for p.s.? the puzzle pieces started to fit in his mind.
"wait a minute, jaehyun, doesn't photographer ji subin have a friend named hanee?" he asked his friend one day. changmin checked subin's instagram. there she was, pictured with subin and jaeho when they were still together. holy crap, she was photographer yoon jaeho's girlfriend. who would've known that na hanee's always been in a close distance from him?
perhaps, if not for p.s., they would've stayed lost soulmates despite all the connections that could've led them to each other. they would've never met. in that, changmin will try his best to hold on to hanee, now able to physically appear when she needs him instead of just writing to her. he's now able to be the one she calls or texts when her superior's annoying, when she's sad, or when she's drunk. it's time for him to take care of her the best way he knows how. it's also time for him to mature.
hanee will finally have the courage to trust and love again. being pen pals with changmin really did help her forgive herself and through that, she got to know just how nice of a person changmin was. she felt like she can rely on him, take care of him and have fun with him all at once. he's always gracing her days with warmth, enabling her to rant about her superior's demands and working hours. his squirrel-like pout and puppy eyes make her go soft.
the way she just pops up wherever he is with her grey hyundai and the exclaims of envy from his friends makes changmin a happy guy. she always seems like she knows what to say or what he's thinking and her positive energy is contagious, making him want to work harder to make her happy. even when she's in pain alone, he wants her to know that he'll forgive and comfort her when she needs him. he can make her feel at ease, as he learns a lot about life from her.
"what does this make us?" hanee would ask him as she picks him up from his photoshoot.
"lucky soulmates who found each other," he would say with his big grin and puppy eyes.
"nah, you look more like my next boyfriend," hanee's confident remark would proceed to cause changmin's heart to skip a beat. i forgot that she's older than me and this is how she reminds me, very funny.
ENDING. ending up together since meeting changmin has healed her in many ways. hanee deserves to be happy :")

oh, well, that's a long story. but to shorten it, i'm quite close with ji subin, one of the co-founders and i was going through a horrible breakup. um, he was one of subin's co-workers. she encouraged me to sign up because maybe, writing to a pen pal about it could help me heal. i agreed, for her sake.
