ROOMMATE SEASON 3 / 소연우 (collabs?)
SO YEONWOO
personality
estp-t, turbulent entrepreneur
amiable, energetic, perceptive, resilient
spontaneous, straight-forward
imprudent, impatient, perfectionist, risk-prone
gryffindor, neutral good, sagittarius
yeonwoo is the type of guy you'll see easily making friends, approaching people and throw entertaining jabs with all types of people. he enjoys being the life of the party, making himself a social butterfly who isn't afraid to assist shy and timid people to get accustomed to their surroundings. wherever he goes, yeonwoo just has a knack for making good use of socializing, interactions and networking opportunities. he loves being around people and it excites him whenever he's a part of a crowd, a party or group. always full of passion and energy, yeonwoo is capable of bringing life and excitement no matter where he is or who he's with. he channels his high energy levels to become his source of determination and the fuel to his productivity rate and this enables him to really express himself and focus on what he's good at or what he loves to do. he's always trying to get something done, setting small goals every day. nothing excites him more than pushing boundaries and discovering and using new things and ideas.
carrying himself with little filter and little regard for sensitivity, he has a hidden skill in noticing small changes and won't hesitate to call them out or ask questions about it. capable of picking up on hidden thoughts and motives, yeonwoo knows when things change or when they need to be changed. noticing the small changes in habits, appearances or facial expressions help him connect better with others, who would not honestly consider him as an observer. his current status as an athlete sheds some light on his resilience in the face of adversity. he's aware of the situation he's putting himself through, their own emotions and the attitude of those around him. he makes sure he always has a sense of control, thinking of new ways to tackle problems. he understands that life is full of challenges and he knows that he cannot live avoiding his problems. he faces them head-on, remaining flexible and willing to adapt to change. that way, yeonwoo finds himself getting back on his feet after tiny mistakes and nervous falls.
focusing on the present of his life, there are two sides to his spontaneity. he lives in the moment and dives into the action so he usually does things on an impulse. whenever an opportunity appears, he seizes it, even as he considers the possible fallout from his decisions but this trait in him can always be exciting and stimulating for certain people. yeonwoo's impulse and tendency to throw caution to the wind can stimulate those who are too stiff and reluctant to change, becoming their influence to finally let loose, relax and follow their hearts over their minds for once. yeonwoo is that type of person who follows his heart over his mind. never one to beat around the bush, his direct method of communication can be refreshing and clear. he always makes sure to point out direct and factual questions and answers. things are what they are and denying the truth and facts can only lead to chaos in his mind but of course, this method of his can come off as insensitive to several people. yeonwoo is still figuring out the balance and right amount of tact he needs to insert in his speech whenever he's communicating with all sorts of people.
his spontaneity often causes him to miss the big picture. he prefers to solve problems here and now, perhaps too much as he hates leaving loose ends in the moment. all elements of a ice dance performance can be perfect, but the performance can still receive small numbers if those elements do not fit together. being more action-oriented and hands-on than he should be at times, critical decisions yeonwoo makes based on the factual, immediate reality may not be sustainable depending on the changeable future situations. he does what's needed to fix the present, not showing much care of the future consequences. always living life in his own pace to keep him excited and to maintain his energy levels, slowing down for others may be challenging for him. there are other people who may “not get it” or having to stay focused on a single detail for too long but yeonwoo may not accept it, possibly causing him to be quickly irritated when he doesn't really have to be. this is one of his most visible flaws everyone hopes he'll tone down.
working hard with the amount of energy he has is admirable, yes but yeonwoo takes things too far more often that he should. he's always pushing himself to the limit, practicing until he's satisfied with himself even if those around him try to make him stop in the middle of it. with the energy and resilience he possesses , yeonwoo works to perfection of detail and will only be relieved of results only when they have reached his own standards and expectations. he makes it hard for himself to be content at small achievements, something he's trying so hard to fix every day. his perfectionism and impatience contribute to explore unknown depths without thinking much. doing more hours to satisfy his inner ambitions and greed can present risks to his body and mind. he tries to battle boredom and burnout by intentionally adding risk to the situations to stimulate himself. everything he does, he decides using his own moral compass than someone else’s because in his mind, he knows himself the best. rules are meant to be bent.
BACKGROUND
❆ childhood born in the capital city of seoul, yeonwoo lived in a middle class income family with her mother being a kinesiotherapist that works closely with the national team while his father was the manager of an ice rink in a certain location in seoul. of course, that would mean yeonwoo grew up closely to the ice rink and winter sports. he always enjoyed helping out at his father's ice rink and was fascinated with winter sports. his brother was quite the opposite to him, not the least interested in such things. that made yeonwoo lovable to his parents and on saturday mornings, before his father opens the ice rink, he'd offer to teach yeonwoo how to skate. to be fair, his father thought he wasn't very good at it. yeonwoo himself would admit that he had little sense of balance as a child and would've never thought he could be able to skate like all the older children who came to his father's ice rink to skate with their friends, family or lovers.
❆ the start of his dreams of course, in all success stories, there were always a turning point. yeonwoo who as just eight at the time ended up going to his father's ice rink every day to improve and despite him tripping or falling over, he continued to stand up again and practice. at that age, he wanted to be able to skate stablely like the older children and some of the grown-ups who visited the ice rink. his father always paid attention to him from afar, not wanting to ruin the process. after being able to balance himself on the ice, he felt such a big sense of accomplishment. after that moment, he continued to spend more time in the ice rink and slowly, he was able to skate with some extent of speed. that's when his father pushed him to try speed skating after he turned ten years old so yeonwoo started speed skating lessons at the encouragement. yes, he first tried speed skating before eventually, switching to figure skating. the rest became his history.
❆ school life often absent from school due to figure skating training, his parents tell him that they don't expect him to be extraordinary in his academical performances. they expect him to not fail any tests, at the least. yeonwoo knows that it's very exhausting to juggle both his academics and figuree skating but the moment he steps into the rink, all his worries disappear. with his focuses split in two, he found that receiving 80s and occasional high 90s in his tests were already a big achievement for himself. he had to stay up to make sure he can catch up on homework and cramming for tests. he always reminded himself to use his spare time to try and do things ahead of time. being both an athlete and a student made him learn the hard way of time management and mental stability. his school did offer some extent of leniency towards his absence at school and his grades according to his performance. he made sure he had enough to keep his grade average afloat as he sometimes had to be away for weeks for certain competitions.

❆ miscellaneous
– is left-handed and his best friend seowoong would often ask him to try and write with his right hand, that results in some hilarious results. he has good handwriting, but the moment you ask him to doodle or sketch something, he loses all sense of aesthetics and details. yeonwoo and his magic hands can make a giraffe look like a chicken, for unknown reasons.
– is willing to learn how to cook and be a helper when there's cooking needed to be done because right now, he can't cook for his life but wants to know how so he doesn't become hopeless if or when he gets to move out and live alone.
– being an athlete, he has a healthy and thorough diet with his physical training in mind. he makes sure to have calorie deficits on a daily basis and is doing a lot of off-ice training and weight training to build up his muscles and strength so he can perform harder lifts with his partner. when the skating season ends, he allows himself to eat his cravings but makes sure to maintain his healthy eating habits wherever he goes and whoever he hangs out with.
– would answer that his ideal type among all korean celebrities is red velvet's irene in a heartbeat, is a big reveluv and he loves all the members equally (he's torn between irene or seulgi as his bias). he was successful in watching their "red rouge" concert after dragging seowoong to see it with him and uploaded it on his sns. he proudly set red velvet's psycho as his current ringtone and his own collection of their merchandise in his room. his heart would explode and his brain would stop working if by any chance, he gets to meet them.
– keeps a lot of his fan gifts in one corner in his room. they mostly gift him handwritten letters, rabbit plushies, hoodies, iphone cases, or flower bouquets. his favorite plushie is this blue rabbit hug toy he got at his first ever national competition, it was his first time receiving a gift from a fan so he cherishes it a lot. he sleeps with this blue rabbit hug toy every night.
– likes to play pubg, league of legends, and honours of kings with his friends in his free time as a way to relief some stress. his id is "sosoyeonw0", which made seowoong cringe at first but yeonwoo doesn't care much. he isn't as competitive as his friends in the game and plays just to distract himself from fatigue or stress as well as to bond with his friends.
– turns into an excited little kid whenever he goes on a trip. he's always been so wrapped up in his training and goals as an athlete that he unleashes all the excitement and mixed feelings whenever he goes on a trip no matter how short his stay might be. he prefers to go to the beach over hiking the mountain and would be down to ride rollercoasters and do extreme sports. at his age, everything excites him and he's not afraid to try a lot of different things.
– the type to be street smart and seems to be able to find his way anywhere he is. he found this fact of him when last year, he and jiah got lost in the streets of zagreb, croatia one night as they were sightseeing after a light dinner and trying to find their way back to their accomodation. unlike jiah, he's not afraid to ask for help from nearby locals and turn on the gps.
– would be the rare type of person who'd never take their eyes off the horror movie and intentionally trying to scare of mess with others while they're watching it. maybe, because he doesn't believe in ghosts (think of buzzfeed unsolved's shane). in that sense, he'd be the best choice for a partner to go into a haunted house attraction. he'd be able to reassure you and calm you down while leading the way and making sure you're not messed with.
– public instagram account is @icedance_yeonwooso where he posts official photos, photos with fellow athletes or during closing banquets, sponsored items, photos taken during training or at competition venues as well as reply to supportive messages. his personal account that only fellow figure skaters and close friends can follow and be followed back is @ywsooo01, where he posts more personal content, like vacation pictures, aesthetic photos and photos with his close friends, family or jiah. basically, the photos that wouldn't pass for his public account.
– currently studying at hanyang university, majoring in sports management. he got in through documents screening and interview without having to take the college entrance exams, mostly due to his status and accomplishments as a figure skating athlete in the national team.
– hates cleaning or sorting out his clean clothes so he's the type who dumps all his dirty clothes in one basket and just piles up a lot of his stuff in one section in his room. it can be frustrating for others but then, yeonwoo will claim that it's comfortable for him that way.
– always carries all sorts of lip balms because he's constantly exposed to cold temperatures and that way, his lips get chapped easily even during the warmer seasons. he keeps buying from different brands and puts one or two in the bags he usually uses for training, hanging out, travelling and competitions because he's lazy to have just one lip balm that he has to move around according to his schedule and needs. so far, he has two from burt's bees, two from kiehl's, one from innisfree, and one from eos. all conveniently scattered in different bags.
– taking into consideration his weekly dance classes, he's shameless in showcasing his moves which will be a sight to see during his time in the roomate. he's willing to learn dance from those who have more experience and skill than him so he'd definitely pester or ask idols in the roomate house to teach him their ways. who knows, maybe he'll discover a new talent.
❆ yeonwoo says
– "too bad, you're stuck with me."
– "yes, ice dancing means i dance on the ice. but with a few lifts and twists."
– "lip balm time!" as he proceeds to apply his lip balm before training
– "i'm just so-so, not too bad, not too good" as he continues to drop more puns on his name
– "aren't i the best? or am i still insufferable?" whenever he treats jiah right
– "looking too ahead into the future takes you away from what matters in the present"
– "aw, boo hoo!"
– "started from the bottom, now we here"
– "practice makes perfect, no?"

LIFE AS AN ATHLETE
❆ how he feels about it of course, being an athlete was hard for yeonwoo at first. there was so much he had to adopt as a routine, as his daily life. to mention a few, there was the rigorous training, the thorough dieting, the cold temperature of the ice rink, and of course, the fact that he had to use out on much of his school life to train. he grew up, reassuring himself that all those hours he wasn't at school would donate to his future achievements. the mental strength he had to built so he could be able to adopt his usual positivity came from his growth over the years. he had to learn to accept the results as his adversity, seeing it as a natural cycle that he has to go through. he had to leave it all on the ice, not becoming discouraged after a mistake or fall. when he was a singles skater, he felt like all the physical and mental demands were dropped on his shoulders and at that age, it took a lot of fighting and overcoming from yeonwoo. why? the reason why he continued on was simple, it was because he loved what he was doing. he felt alive, as if he was the leader or a soldier from a different realm on the ice rink.
that has become a thing of the past, as he is now skating in ice dance. soon-to-be nineteen, yeonwoo still has the fears he had before but there was a difference. perhaps the fact that he had someone by his side as his partner reassured him. he wasn't alone and lonely anymore. he had somewhere next to him to share the victory and the tears with him. although, this would mean the burden was doubled. he's settled into his current training and dynamic with his partner, actually finding himself enjoy it more than when he was a singles skater. perhaps, it's the dancing elements that spiced things up for him. yeonwoo was more concerned on the lack of popularity and interest in his discipline, having gone through many mixed emotions and much thought to switch to ice dance. he was scared that nobody would appreciate his achievements, that nobody would even know about it. he still couldn't believe how many people he had to explain his discipline to when they asked about his sport. he knows that all will eventually fall into place when they achieve something big in the future, but yeonwoo's just terrified at the present over the "what if's".
❆ how his family sees it yeonwoo knows that he wouldn't be where he is right now without the support of his father and always gives him the special mention. his father has always been proud of him and supports him in the flesh at his national competitions. he's always vocal about accepting all of his results as big victories or progress and just a pat on the back from his father would make yeonwoo emotional. his mother was skeptic at first, having worked close with athletes from the national team all her career. she knows better how one injury can change everything that has been written and that's yet to come so she's always nervous and praying that yeonwoo will get through the routine safely. she's always reassuring him after he does fall or messes up, saying that it's better than injuring himself. his brother was always more silent about his support, opting to express his attention to yeonwoo's achievements and competitions through text messages or talking highly about yeonwoo to his friends. his brother is the one who he can let loose with and knows all the ugly feelings he's feeling and offers a lot of comfort that his parents couldn't offer. his brother only wants the best for him, without any injury scares.
❆ how observers feel about it the general public is still more interested in female single skaters who can live up to kim yuna's achievements and in male single skaters like cha junhwan whose paving the way and setting records as a south korean. this would explain the lack of interest and attention to disciplines that require pairs such as pair skating and ice dance. not many figure skaters are willing to make the switch to such disciplines and there are not much korean history in the disciplines as well, causing south korea to fall behind in developing high quality teams. hopefully, focusing on the development of the partnership between yoon jiah and so yeonwoo will produce fruitful results as they grow into their boots and make significant progress in their elements. maybe, by then, will the nation open its eyes to ice dancing just like how kim yuna influenced the birth of the nation's current generation of upcoming female figure skaters.
HISTORY
❆ the beginning it took him only a year to know that speed skating wasn't his exact fit and at the age of eleven, ended up taking figure skating lessons. he trained as a singles male figure skater and managed to slowly make his way to the south korean national team through making the cut line for qualification of a spot in the national teams at the national competitions. he didn't get much recognition as a singles figure skater, but believed that he just need to improve to gain recognition and more assignments. he was noted by several observers for his musicality and attention to detailed hand gestures and portrayal of his music in his short programs and free skating. it was not until 2016 that he was switched to ice dancing at the recommendation of his coaches.
❆ takes two to ice dance seeing his performance graphic as a singles skater, yeonwoo won't deny now that he was surprised, angry, scared and worried at the recommendation to switch to a different discipline. he felt like he was reaching the warming up of his results but then, he looked at his other teammates like cha junhwan, cha younghyun, lee junehyoung, and lee sihyeong. comparing his statistics with theirs, yeonwoo felt discouraged and thought the switch would be a way to enhance himself and his career but he was worried. his coaches reassured and encouraged him as they introduced him to his to-be partner, yoon jiah. they keep emphasizing how they would compliment each other in their performances and how jiah was handpicked to be his partner. eventually, yeonwoo took the switch as he thought it'd be better than struggling to break into the senior roster as a singles. he had less competition as an ice dancer team so why not? he knew that his decisions would need him to adapt and adjust to the aspects of ice dancing but yeonwoo trusted himself to be able to get through the training and intergrate himself smoothly.

❆ South Korean Figure Skating 18-19 Season and Its Hopeful Future
[Daily Sports Korea Reporter Yoo Seung-cheol, Student Reporter Lee Chan-hee]
After the PyeongChang Winter Olympics is over, the 2018-2019 season has already been run by more than half of the players who are struggling with the goal of the Beijing Olympics in 2022. More than any season, the Korean national figure team brought many medals and made domestic figure fans happy. I would like to look back on the 18-19 season from the beginning to the present and outline the way the national team should go.
The young and new ice dancing team that have showed their performance and potential in the junior grand prix since the likes of Lee Ho-jung and Kam Kang-in, Yoon Ji-ah and So Yeon-woo aren't perfect yet, but they should be watched and cheered on as they are working hard to maintain the Korean ice-dancing reputation. 2019.01.11
❆ [INTERVIEW] "South Korea's Hope in Ice Dance" ··· "We'll Prove It!"
A sport where a pair of men and women skate and dance on an ice board, Ice Dance. The United States, Canada, and Russia have used international competition medals. In Korea, 'Figure Queen' Kim Yu-na continued to dream of a tree that challenged figure skating but the ice dance is still ignored by the general public and figure skating fans. Men and women have to compete in pairs, and it costs more than double the cost of single skating.

HELLO, PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF FOR A BIT.
"it's very nice to meet you, i am ice dancing skater, so yeonwoo, a part of the korean national skating team," he paused before he continued, "not seo, not seong, not song, but so yeonwoo." he made sure to make his exact surname known. his surname is often mistaken for another and it's become a habit of his to emphasize the right one. "i am currently twenty (in korean age), internationally nineteen and i'm also a student. but i don't go to school often hehe."
First of all, what made you a celebrity? What industry are you in? Elaborate a bit on it all, please.
"oh, i am in the professional sports industry. that makes me an athlete," he chuckled a bit at the end of his sentence. he's never been asked such a question. "but i wouldn't consider myself a celebrity. those are for skaters who are known and have headlines to their names like yoo young, cha junhwan, lee haein and lim eunsoo (and so much more). my discipline is actually still not quite known to the general public. most figure skaters stay in the singles discipline, you don't see much skaters from our country competing in pair skating or ice dancing like other countries," he sighed as he remembered that his partnership with jiah was the one and only junior ice dancing team in the national team. "but i was encouraged to switch to this discipline because my coaches say they've find the right partner for me. i was quite nervous so until today, i'm glad to have jiah as a partner. we want to make south korea proud and pave the way for future ice dancers."
What is your current state of living? Do you live alone? with others? in a dorm?
yeonwoo chuckled as he gestured to the living room they were sitting in at the moment, "um, well, i'm currently living with my family. i haven't moved out yet but when i'm preparing for competitions, me and jiah both stay at the national team dormitory."
how would you feel about living with a bunch of strangers?
"um, exactly how it was like the first time i was at the national team dormitory," yeonwoo chuckled as he had quick flashbacks of when he was at the dorm. "but, now that i'm accustomed to everyone in my team, i think my attention has changed and i don't know if it's weird but i'm actually pretty excited?" yeonwoo wanted to end the sentence as a solid sentence but he was confused at the odd excitement he was feeling at the idea of living with a bunch of strangers.
Do you have anything like allergies, intolerances or phobias? We need to know for your safety in the roommate house. This won't be exposed to the public.
yeonwoo cleared his throat, "okay, so, um, i used to have an allergic reaction to egg yolks. i outgrew the condition when i was in middle school but after all these years of strict dieting, i still find myself removing the egg yolks from boiled eggs. i'm find when it's in omelette shape," he paused as he was thinking of a certain dish, "or, like, those omelettes that are just egg whites."
next up, If you could to adopt any pet, what kind would you adopt? No reptiles, please.
"interesting question, i like it," yeonwoo cooed at the question. he's never had a pet before. her mother is sensitive to fur so he and his brother never dared to rescue or adopt a pet. "i've always wanted to adopt a puppy! i think i'm more of a dog lover but i'm okay with cats too. my one pick would be a bichon frise, i don't care much about gender because yes, a puppy!"
Here are pictures of the different rooms that are at the house. Do you have a preference? room 101 is on the ground floor, every room has their own bathroom.
"the male double rooms are definitely my pick, i don't think i can handle the quadruple room," he showed an empty smile, "so, maybe... as long as i avoid room 205, i'm okay? but maybe room 101 is my main choice. that would be my preference."
Thank you for doing this interview with us! We'll let you know if you're picked very soon.
despite being slightly taken aback, yeonwoo managed to stand up from his seating position and bowed to the staff, "you're very much welcomed. this interview has been great. i hope we'll meet again soon. have a great day!" he said as he showed his signature eye smile.

comments hello, i have come up with this lovely baby boi. i hope you enjoyed reading through him, even if i was constantly cursing because of how much detail i had to research for the schedule section alone. now that i've looked back, i think i made jiah the l/i because writing her in the rs section would be too long lol. heavily inspired by the blue palette of arin and soobin's new mc stage at music bank as well as the palette i used in this app and the now-discontinued netflix show, spinning out.
