Patreon or Crowdfunding?

Okay so when I first heard that authors were doing this, it seemed kind of pretentious. The more I think of it though, the more I think it's kind of nice... each person "buys" a book from the author so they can read it. However, I don't think I could do this, I would feel guilty lol, that's just my personality. But yeah. I'm curious what you all think of it?

The way to look at it is that people are supporting you as an artist. They aren't buying your work specifically, since it is on here for them to view for free, they are simply showing you their support in another way--aside from commenting. So try not to view it as "they are buying a product from me," because in reality they aren't. Patrons (whether on Patreon or through AFF's Crowdfunding) can't be buying something from you if they can still view it without having to pay money for it. All crowdfunding is on here (and on Patreon), is a way for people to show their support in a monetary way. If you would like to keep writing strictly as a hobby, and not have to feel obligated to give content to your readers, then crowdfunding probably isn't for you. Crowdfunding, in my opinion, is a good step for people to start making a little bit of money from a hobby that they could potentially turn into a career.

Personally I could never do it, I write too infrequently and too much "for fun" to want to take money for it. It feels kind of wrong to take money for something that is 100% my hobby and nothing more. I'd like it to stay a hobby too and I don't want to feel obligated to write more because someone has paid for it.

I'm not saying people who do it are bad. I suppose there are plenty of reasons and it's a good way to show support to your favourite writers as well. I just couldn't do it personally and would want support in other ways instead of money. ; _ ;

I think if its for the author, its nice that somehow you could make money out of your hobby or passion in writing. I mean if they are someone who is in need or just simply want to save money for the future, they have options whatever situation their into.

But at the same time, if its the one reading, I think its great that you can show your support to your favorite author through some means. Great authors deserve the support. The other side of it is that its kind of guilt tripping having those because it would feel like your not giving that much support if you don't buy their books.

That's just my opinion though. Stay healthy and safe always!! Fighting!! ^_^
