those who know byulha would say that she's a really nice person. she knows just when to step up for you and how to treat you right in any situation. she always shows her concern and attention to those around her and she'll stick by you when you most need it. she's a friend that doesn't mind going to hell and back by your side and that's just how strongly she views her friendships. it's boosted by her level of compassion and it blends well with the fact that she's studying the field of the human mind and behaviour because she genuinely cares for the well-being of others and tries her best to be able to understand how different types of people behave and say the right things for them at the right timing. it's a constant process of trial and error as she grows and learns from her experiences but it's a journey she's ready to take.

of course, all of this is inside her mind as she would never let it show to others that she's riding an emotional roller coaster deep down. this causes her to mask her delight at her lonely or sad moments, contradicting what she feels inside. she's far too independent to be able to say it to others. it would take a very sturdy friendship for her to unravel. she trusts herself too much to become the ideal image of herself and tries too hard to be able to resolve her internal problems by herself. sometimes, this isn't possible for humans were born social creatures, after all. despite others would think of her as a quiet extrovert, byulha is an introvert to the core. she finds that she could never have the courage to stand out or appear strong when meeting new people. she's someone of few words and would never blurt out unnecessary remarks. she enjoys listening rather than speaking up when in a conversation, which is why most people would realize later in the day that she rarely talks aboout herself.
BACKGROUND
byulha was born in the night of a cold snowy winter night but it was evident that her parents wanted the best for her from the name they gave her. byulha, to be a person who shines high like a star. she was the star in the night sky while her sister manwol was its moon. being the youngest of the two sisters, she grew up receiving much love and attention from those around her. she had always enjoyed people watching and was always so intent in finding out other's feelings. she was always able to write down her observations and findings in her daily diary, surprising those who watch her fill her diary with the amount of detail she noticed as a young child.
her family of four live stably in the middle income class, her father being an engineer manager and her mother being a private piano teacher. despite having a fondness for drawing and coloring books from a young age, it was psychology and human emotions that interested byulha as a young teen. always being one who shows compassion to others, it's a field she's also very interested in. her grades were high enough to ensure enrolling herself in ncu without even having to take the college entrance exams. she had underwent an interview and screening process to be admitted to ncu, unlike her sister manwol who had to fight for her spot at ncu through the cut-throat college entrance exam but like the case with her sister, her parents were ready to fully support her financially during her study at ncu. although she has no plans of juggling working part-time to help pay off her tutition like her older sister.

COLLEGE LIFE in between her lectures and lab hours combined with her club activities, she's currently content with what she has. she knows what she wants to do in the future, although still carrying a portion of unease in her heart about her decisions. she's the type to focus on what's in front of her so she's trying to make the best of her college years, which her parents and sister say are the best years of youth. she's not someone who enjoys parties and large crowds, preferring small hangouts with a select few instead. she enjoys having a portion of her weekends for herself to do whatever her mood is saying, be it self-care or going out alone with her earphones in her ear and the music wrapping her into a mood that doesn't make her feel lonely.
her plans for the summer? she had it all the things she wanted to do to treat herself laid out, she just needed to find the right day or mood to do them. get some well deserved sleep, change her nail color, get a hair treatment and maybe even dye it at an impulse, go to all the cafes and restaurants she never got to visit, yebin taking her to a water park or amusement park, learn how to make friendship bracelets for her and yebin, hopefully get her driver's license and maybe take barista classes. what's certain is that she and her sister manwol have to visit their parents together at some point this summer or they'll scold them both for always being too busy to drop by and have some family quality time as a full team.

moon heeyoung, 21, well-acquainted
they know each other from having bumped into each other at the library or the cafe often. they both have similar traits, though byulha is slightly more introverted than heeyoung is. they went from being awkward strangers who would bow their heads to each other when they study at the same table at the library to saving each other seats at the same table at the library and sharing light chit-chat with each other during their study breaks.
yes, they have each other's numbers but they wouldn't even say that they're close friends because maybe, they don't see that they have much in common so they're both just really well-acquainted right now, though that is subject to change.
jung yoonoh, 21, daily eye candy
byulha can easily pick out yoonoh when he is playing basketball with his friends on the court. she always seems to pass the basketball court after her classes when they're playing and she's not dumb to deny that yoonoh is some eye candy, someone with good looks at the least. she could tell he had quite that image when her peers would also be able to pick him out and talk about him.
at first, yoonoh didn't even know about her but after a few times, he noticed her passing through with her peers and always wondered how she could always pass the court at the same time regularly, as if on queue. it was his teammate that told him about byulha and her peers being psychology students who had afternoon classes.
they've yet to share words between each other but they've seem to have acknowledge each other through sharing intentional eye contact and bowing to each other. there might not be any possible romance between them, though. byulha could never have imagine that yoonoh and her sister manwol share the same mbti, that in itself sends some signals for her.
jung chaeyeon, 20, close friends
unlike byulha who took on drawing and calligraphy as a hobby, chaeyeon is an actual painting major. byulha and her started off on a friendly term because every time byulha would swing by the art room, chaeyeon was always there doing something. they bonded over conversations revolving art that switched on to other topics like music, movies, fashion and dramas. they did have their differences and byulha was initially very nervous and shy to be around chaeyeon because wow, she's really pretty and has this shimmer to her.
after finding out that chaeyeon and heeyoung are best friends, it all made sense to byulha. they do radiate the same energy and she also found out about chaeyeon and yoonoh's cousin relationship but of course, why would she ever tell chaeyeon that she likes to watch her good-looking cousin playing basketball as she passes by? they're still pretty close, though they don't seem to touch the subject of guys a lot.
ahn manwol, 24, older sister
the calm and composed classy older sister, manwol is currently running a cat cafe in hongdae. to byulha, her older sister has always been sassy or feisty to those around her and she was not excluded. they are much different, her sister's an estp and she's an infj. manwol does give her realistic advice to her problems, which does work if byulha puts it to use but sometimes manwol lacks the compassion to offer her comfort or some warm words before slamming on the truth so when they meet each other now, they've figured out that it's better not to touch each other's problems when unnecessary.
they've gone through several arguments that started through prying each other's personal lives behind their parents' backs so they've both learned their lessons. in all honesty, byulha is reassured that she has such a feisty realistic thinker for a sister who would never stand still when someone bothers her. she knows manwol would be able to set people back to their place, her sister is a bulldozer that way.
baek yebin, 21, the best friend
yebin is the girl next door who byulha definitely owes a lot because she's the one who was able to get her out of her shell most of the times and encourage her to be the best and happiest version of her she can be every day.
byulha loves to help yebin, a journalism major, her insight and advice on how to phrase her words and yebin enjoys the low-fi or cafe playlists byulha turns on her bluetooth speaker. they do express their thoughts directly when they're fed up with something and they find unwinding over alcohol soothing. they always decide who has to refill the alcohol stash through a fair round of rock, paper, scissors.

a friendly aura with a knack for well-timed jokes, minseok can tolerate a lot of cringey moments or bad jokes. he would proudly tell yoonoh that he's proven himself a true tolerant person who was able to still be his friend all these years. he pretty much admits that he doesn't have all the answers his friends hope to find in him and really gives his heart out to the team. he listens to a lot of people's different opinions and is always open to hear constructive criticism.
he always wants to be seen as someone who can be counted on to see things through until the very end. he treats everyone around him with kindness and respect, earning him this approachable image among this peers. if you add in his jokes, humor levels and wits when socializing, it would make sense why it's easy to break the ice with him.
as he gravitates to listen to the voices and perspectives of those around him, he loses the timing to listen to himself and ends up giving more than he is able to. he's always there to push others to do their best and to pat them in the back when in fact, his own back needs to be patted too. when the moment calls for a quick call, it can be a real challenge for him to make a decision. minseok hates making decisions that may upset a certain group of people, although it will always been impossible to make a decision that is fully accepted by all.
minseok's doubts and privacy grew as he tries to live up to expectations and peer pressure. it leads him to shield himself as it stems from the guilt and worry he secretly feels for not giving more of himself to those he care about. this makes it much easier for him to take criticism too seriously inside even if it doesn't show. he does get a bit insecure on whether or not he should be offended towards certain words or problems.
BACKGROUND
the oldest child and the only son in his family, minseok grew up under the attention of his stay-at-home mother and had to learn how to yield and take care of her younger sister. his father had always been busy working as the right hand-man to the ceo of jung corporations. they've always lived inside the residence of the wealthy jung family and as he grew up close to the extravagance and beauty of the house the jung family lived in as well as the living space provided by the family for his. he's always been captivated by the luxurious buildings the jung family frequented. this may have been the reason and exposure that made him want to become an architect.
THE STORY
minseok always had his camera with him, taking whatever intrigues him. it was one spring day when yoonoh called him up to the basketball court to play. minseok declined initially but ended up going anyways. he made his point to yoonoh that he was just going to take pictures of them and leave to go to the cafe. he did his deed and was checking out the photos taken when he noticed that one of the photos had accidentally focused on the female student in the background. it was byulha who was untypically walking to class alone, all her classmates had gone to the cafe for a quick coffee stop before class.
minseok initially thought that she was beautiful, the wind and green trees behind her making the accidental snap more beautiful and candid. of course, he didn't know who she was at the time until he swung by chaeyeon's art room a few days afterwards, to find her with byulha who chaeyeon introduced him to. in minseok's mind, this encounter meant something. a coincidence followed by another coincidence could only mean that all this was fated. he could feel himself blushing and tried his best to stay composed when he shook hands with byulha. byulha's first initial thoughts of minseok was that he was pretty tall and knew he was an extrovert right away.
it didn't take long before minseok developed a crush on byulha, being the hopeless romantic he is. he managed to find her instagram handle through chaeyeon's following and was struck by her traits. she liked to draw, she knew how to cook and loved to go to cafes as much as he does. every time he played basketball with yoonoh, he noticed her passing by with her classmates. another coincidence, perhaps? in his mind, minseok was starting to get more convinced that this was fate and destiny giving him signs or something.
was he able to talk to her? yes, he started to swing by the art room more often with hopes she was there. sometimes, she was. sometimes, she wasn't. he forgot that she wasn't an art major, unlike chaeyeon but when he did find her there and chaeyeon was somewhere else, he managed to hold conversations with her and try to carry on with some light chit-chat with her. byulha wasn't put off by this because she actually liked how he was warming up to her as a longtime friend of chaeyeon's.
he started to see her at the cafe as well when he was stopping by or stepping in as an emergency barista. he was able to greet her and she would be comfortable enough to carry on conversations with him. he would always take peeks of her through the end of his sights and if only he wasn't being an emergency barista, he would want to preserve the sight of her being focused on her studies with her earphones in her ears through a photo. she intrigued him very much. if only she knew how she made him feel.
byulha thinks of minseok as a friend of a friend, though she does admire his warmth and wit. she really envies those who are naturally the life of the party as she is not. she does see that minseok has a lot in common with her and the fact that he's always initiating the conversations first makes her easily warm up to him, although she still restrains herself to an extent. she is yet to view him as a romantic interest but subject is to change this summer.
minseok sees her as a muse, an unexpected discovery, a hidden gem or a diamond in the rough. he would've never gotten to know who she was if it weren't for a coincidence and he's honestly been whipped since day one. he's still trying to decide just how to court her and how to catch her attention but one thing is for sure, he wants to be there for her in her life and wants to get to know her more deeply. he just hopes that she'll allow him to get closer, slowly but surely.

COMMENTS alright, i took so long to finish this because the motivation roller coaster hit me hard on this one but i hope that after i do finish it, you'll come to enjoy reading byul as a person. i tried to describe the friends the best as i could hm, idk how it'll turn out and i have to admit, i ran out of juice at minseok's personality like gosh, what happened. at the end of the day, i hope you liked byul because i would've never let her out of my idea dungeon otherwise.
