About cliches!

As I was reading about writing stuff on the internet I found out a topic called "cliches that have to die!" o "cliches you should avoid." and most of them were cliches that I actually like to write and to read about. So, it's either you love them ether you enjoy them. I really wanted to write about this. So I'm gonna tell you the cliches I love and the ones I don't.

Cliches I actually enjoy:

Hate-Love relationship: Most of the people find this kind of story line too cliche to even be worth it but I don't agree! This is one of my favorite. I totally love when in the beginning the two main characters hate each other and adopt the "we never" attitude but fall in love with each other and then keep dennying it when it's so obvious. And when the moment they denny it, it's even more interesting because reading about characters fighting against their own feelings, their own inner self is glorious. (at least for me xD) So whenever I read this kind of stories (either novels or fanfics) I'm always like give me more of this! And if they end up together it's even better.

Fake dating/fake marriage: I think this one is also a classic one but hell. I really enjoied both reading and writing about this one. It's about two characters brought together by circunstances or fate or families or whoever, and they don't want it at the beginning but develop feelings for each other. This cliche most of the times is also related to the hate-love relationship which I love, so of course I like this one as well.

Love triangle: I have mixed feelings about this cliche. I enjoy reading about this one on novels but on fanfics not so much. But even on novels I don't like it when it's too predictable or when there's a "bad boy" and a "good boy" trying to win the girl's love but in the end she chooses the bad boy only because he's a badass, not because he actually loves her. I enjoy this cliche when the two male characters are worth it, and there aren't any etiquettes in between like one is playboy and the other one is the opposite. I also didn't like it on kdramas either and it's quite usual to find this type of story line when it comes to them. Also when the love triangle is formed by two girls and a boy, but it's not quite common, because usually when there's two females involved, one is the main character that the boy is in love with and the other one is either the "other" or the villian. So, do I like it ? Yes, but only if there's a fair play for the characters.

Best friends: I truly love this one! When the characters had been friends for years and then one of them or the both of them are secretly in love! And then the main drama is them not wanting to do the next step to a relationship because they don't want to ruin their friendship or reasons like this one, but in the end they accept it. It's like what you were looking for it had always been right in front of you. Again, I love this one a lot, especially when it's well developed.

Couple created by their friends: I don't know if I explained it good with this title, but it's about when a certain group of friends are shipping a couple inside of the same group and they tries to set them up and push them to each other. This story line is not only about the main couple but also about their friends and I think this one is quite interesting to read about.

Revenges: I actually enjoy it when the main couple get together because there's a revenge plan in between. It's a common cliche but still I like it a lot. It's like the character is trapped in their own plan and they have to fight against their inner self again, which is something that I totally love then they have to fight again themselves.

Fighting against their inner self: I enjoy way more reading about characters fighting again their inner self than against other persons who don't want to let them be happy. I think we can become our worst enemies if we don't know how to control our emotion and our thoughts and I totally love this focusing! This is why I also enjoy novels when the characters have mental health troubles. This is not necessarily about romances, but reading about characters finding themselves it's precious. (for me xD)

One of the character disappears and comes back time later: This is also a classic one. Two people are dating but suddenly one day one of them disappears (different circunstances) and the other one is left alone, hurt, heartbroken, devastated... This character is strong and moves on but never forgets about the one who left. When they expect less, the other one comes back and this is when the story really beginning because it's actually a cliche that can be used in so many ways to make a story. It's either the one was forced to leave and has serious reasons behind this decision and I really love to read to find out the reasons behind (but the reasons must be believable, realistic and serious) and the one who was left is trying hard to resist because of the pain but in the end they start over, getting back together because despite everything they love each other.

Forbbiden love: Two persons love each other but can't be together so they have to fight for their love. This cliche is also a classic, and can lead to a lot of different story lines using it. Either if the end is sad or not, this cliche is worth it. But again, in my opinion, and the reason why the romance is forbidden needs to be realistic and serious. If the reason is something like "you ignored me when I wanted to kiss your cheeck when we were in kindergarten" it might not be interesting FOR ME. xD

The protectors: I love then the characters are protecting each other especially on hard situations. (Possessiveness and protection are not synonyms)

Cliches I don't like. (It's only my point of view, it doesn't mean that the cliches are bad, I'm just giving my opinion)

Toxic possessiveness, toxic relationships in general: For me, being too posessive, too controlling it's not sweet at all. I don't care what the reasons are, I don't like reading a story when one of the main characters is being too controlling over the other to the point the other's opinion doesn't count at all. Even when in a relelationship, no one has the right to decide for the other. NO IS NO, and that's all. It's really cringy to read scenes when one of the characters is not given any choice, and it's being humillated by limitating this by the one who is supposedly in love with them. Threating, manipulation, emotional blackmail, is a no for me. It's not okay.

I also find it cringy when one of them is too jealous. Jealousy, possesiveness it's not always meaning too much love. The idea of a guy for example lying his eyes on a girl and forces her to date him just because he wants to, it's not attractive to me. And then comes in the typical she falls in love with him and this is why she accepts him doing every single toxic thing he wants to do. That's wrong and sadly I saw a lot of that especially on popular novels.

I could give thousands of examples for this cliche, but you got my point.

Badass guy dates the shy nerd girl: Firstly I don't like the idea of connecting someone who studies well to someone shy. Like it might happen but it's not realistic. Someone can study well and be the most popular person in the room. Maybe I see things from different point of view now but I don't like to read about the popular guy who falls in love with the shy girl and everyone is shocked because nobody expected that and everyone thought that he will choose the badass popular girl who is bullying the shy girl because she's jealous and so on.... xD So no, thank you. Next.

The villian who has good side: For me, this only applies when in fantasy world. Call me weird but I like villians who are evil and cruel because this is who they are, and they don't have a sweet side that they don't want to show because blah blah... There's always good in something bad, that's true but I like to read about villians who are evil, malicious, and who doesn't want to turn into someone good and caring only to help the main character. For me, when a villian is brilliant I can totally love it. (This is why the second part of Maleficent hurt me, she wasn't supposed to be weak)

"Ugly and unattractive girl" turns out into a "hottie": I don't like this one because beauty is SUBJECTIVE! It's cringy to read about a girl who was considerated unattractive by the guys and this is why they never gave her a chance, but when she decides to change her style totally only to be accepted (which is seriously a problem to think that you need to be hot in order to be accepted) everyone and especially her long time crush (usually popular badass boy) notices her and wants to date her. But she wants to give him a lesson but in the end she ends up dating the idiot guy who values more the beauty than the soul because she is also stupid, if she was smart she would never give a damn about the who never saw her because she was herself.

Evil mothers: is it hardly necessary? xD

Too fast: "I like you" he said when he saw her from the first time. "I like you too" she answered to the handsome stranger she just met. "I love you." he said on their first date that happening the next day. "You're everything to me." she told the one she knows nothing about only that he is playing basketball with her brother. "You're my heart and soul, I would give my life to you." he told the girl who just found out about her existance. *insert cringy moments*

Two days later... "I hate you!" he told the girl he met three days ago. "I always knew that you were an !" she told the one she knows nothing about really, only that he plays basketball with her brother and her cousin too. 'Okay bye" he said leaving. "Bye, I couldn't wait for you to go away."

So you got my point, right? Okay a bit exaggerated but if we summary some stories, they turn out this way.

With this blog, I don't mean that you shouldn't read whatever you like or enjoy. I'm just giving my opinion about certain topics, you might agree or you might not agree and this is perfectly fine!

I love reading plots that are considered 'cliche' too. Just because they've been written a thousand times over doesn't mean that an author can't add something special or pull it off well. I especially love the 'one character disappears and comes back later' plot because it's usually angsty and I like that ha. I also haaate ugly to hottie. It promotes toxic themes.
