˗ˏˋ 문가람 IS DEDICATED TO 김지호 ˊˎ-

having played by the rules his whole life, moon garam has become familiar with expectations. he is a student athlete. his family is well off. everything is set for him so he just needs to believe in himself. he knows he's not what people glorify him as. deep down, he's just a sleepyhead that loves to eat and drunkenly dances to shakira.
moon garam!
sirius-. silvi. eight.
"there's a reason why it's sabre, not sober"
"everyone, make sure to support your university fencing team, okay? okay!"
"can i not have a second of peace, you drunken fools"
"if we are going to argue pinneapple on pizza, i'm going to leave"
"if they can't tolerate my love for shakira, they can't have me"
"finally, i can sleep again..."
"sorry bro, can't, i have a date with my bed and netflix"
"i need more meat intake, somebody help me out here!"

"this is my 2nd bowl of rice and i'm still hungry"

 personality
observant
garam could feel the slight distress on his sister's face. she was not one to show such emotions. "noona, what's the matter?" eunhasoo stayed quiet. "you're not one to sulk or frown." his sister locked eyes with him, "and how do you know this?" he softened his voice, "you've been listening to breakup songs on spotify. it's been a week since your boyfriend came over to take you on a date. the list goes on, you know." eunhasoo showed a weak smile, "you act like you don't care about people but it's nice to know that you actually do, little bro. thanks a lot."

determined
"yo, moon, are you free right now?" garam could tell seungmin was tipsy. "you know me. busy training." his friend sighed, "i swear, you train alone too often." he could only chuckle before seungmin hung up on him. his friend had a point. he's always put in extra hours before or after class to train by himself. he had to if he wants to achieve higher goals. making into the first-tier national team. asian games gold. international title wins. national champion. there's so much going for him, he couldn't easily give up.

sincere
"seungmin, penny for your thoughts?" garam wanted to check on his friend who told him he was unnamed. he wasn't focused on the game at all. garam knew things weren't fine. "it , i was looking forward to it" he didn't know what it felt but it hurt to see his friend like this, "hey, buddy, i never say things i don't mean so let me comfort you. i want you to know that one, it's not the end of the world. two, you are someone who deserves to be loved no matter what. three, you'll bounce back from this." seungmin hugged him. garam just knows how to bring out a wholesome feeling to others through his words.

charismatic
garam was completely focused. his eyes fixed on his form the mirror reflected. his ear blocking out his surroundings, not hearing even the whispers of his coach, "i love the look in his eyes. the other guys should see him as an example. he's a good team player." he continued perfecting his form while his teammates looked on with awe, "when garam gets in the zone and his eyes change, i wouldn't want to approach him. his entire being becomes intimidating but somehow, it motivates the team."

spontaneous
"now that i think about it, you were very direct with that dm. do you know that?" jiho's cat-like eyes and dreamy gaze locked eyes with his. he smiled, "there's this strong feeling that comes with the impulse. i do what my gut and heart tells me as long as i play by the rules." jiho knew it was that side of him that makes him hard to predict. there's a slight uncertainty that comes with the thrill of the moment. "just make sure you don't make rash decisions, okay?" he looked her in the eye as he nodded, "of course, i never say things i don't mean." she smiled.

unselfish
the two siblings were having a late night call. his sister was playing some lo-fi songs while he was blankly staring at the ceiling. a minute ago, they were ranting about life. his sister sighed, "i don't get why you're so keen on following dad's footsteps, i could never." he blinked, "ii found out after being in a fencing team. i want myself to be happy but others around me deserve it more than i do. my team's overall success also matters." his sister knew he was genuine, "you're only going to burn yourself out. you don't always have to yield. you have your own life. what good does that do you, bro?" he chuckled, "a goal. a purpose. an identity. a reason to live. giving what i've received. without expecting others to give back."

moody
it was the nationwide university-level championships. garam felt really great after earning a semifinal spot in the individuals. he got ready to fight for a semifinal spot in the team competition. they lost. he was irritated the remaining part of the day. when he and his roomate returned to their room, garam expressed sadness. hoshi was confused, wasn't he pissed the whole day? yet the moment they snack on chips, he was cheerful again as he joked around. hoshi told him, "thank god you're an athlete, your mood swings would be scarier otherwise."

reticent
garam could feel jiho's gaze fixated on him. he met her eyes. none of the two dared to speak first. jiho could tell he was holding back. there was something he didn't tell her, something personal. she tried her luck, "moon, what are you thinking about?" he showed a weak smile, "nothing, just enjoying the moment." lies, she could tell. she bit her lip, "okay, whenever you're ready. take your time, i'll be waiting. you can open up to me." garam knows it's been a month since they bonded, but he was taking his time to warm up to jiho. why am i so slow?

 background
even if he was born on a rainy afternoon, moon garam had always been destined for brighter days. he grew up watching his dad in his dashing police uniform. he looked cool. his dad was only seen in the early mornings or late nights but he never came home empty-handed. it was fun to play police and thief with his actual police dad. he wanted to be more like his dad who he idolized. it's been his dreams ever since he could remember. his parents always applauded his dreams. he remembers telling his mom that he wants to be a good police who can protect her. she'd praise her, reminding him that he has to grow up by the rules to be a good person before he could be a good police. his sister would laugh at him, since he didn't even liked to eat his vegetables.

garam had a phase in middle school were he enjoyed watching shows like "csi", "ncis", and "criminal minds". there were a lot intense scenes that made him have to call his sister to accompany him but he enjoyed the investigations, the interogrations, the team and of course, the final arrest. it was a different job but close enough to the police. it looked more fun to him. that's when he went up to his dad and told him that he wanted to be like them. his dad encouraged him by telling him to believe in himself and play by the rules. garam went into high school, living up by his dad's words. he knew he wanted to major in criminology. he didn't want to enroll in the police academy because he wanted to study more on the criminal justice spectrum.

when he was around nine, he took up fencing thanks to his mother, who suggested it would be good to build up his body. he was supported by his dad who boasted that he bulked up when he started playing sports. he ended up loving fencing and was actually good at it. this led him to making the national second-tier team. he's fueled by the pride and glory that comes with representing his country and school. that's also how he was able to hold on to where he is today; by playing by the rules and by believing in himself.

moon garam's private files!
 the story
these two soulmates are similar minds of different origins. moon garam was born to parents who were each other's soulmates while kim jiho grew up finding out her mother was unnamed and almost rejected her dad. yet, they have a similar worry to them. being named gave garam additional pressure to follow in the footsteps of his parents. he wants everything to be under control. will he be able to be the man he wants to be? the same goes for jiho. she has so much laid out for her now, but she still worries. will she be able to turn all that is laid out for her into a future she can find security and happiness in?

both desperately want their life to be exactly what they want it to be. they were patient and chose to wait for the moment that they meet their soulmates since nobody around them could help locate each other at the time. they ended up focusing on pursuing their personal goals. they knew if it was fate, they'd meet each other sooner than later. they wanted to be very sure of it. garam didn't even flinch when he saw a kim jiho follow him on instagram. what are the odds that the one kim jiho who folows you is your soulmate? not likely, at the time.  when the events that led garam to see his name on jiho's skin happened, he felt an impulse come over him. what are the odds now? more likely. seungmin's words convinced him to take the chance. he had to act fast.

the minutes garam spent waiting before jiho came were tense. he started to think twice about his rash decision. what if she isn't that kim jiho and i embarass myself? her footsteps stopped his thoughts. their eyes met and he could feel the awkward silence. jiho always thought he was good-looking from his pictures but in that moment, no picture could compare. talk to him, jiho, for god's sake. jiho was shown her name on garam's collarbone. they confirmed it. it was from that day, they exchanged numbers and tried to be friends through text. garam tried to keep the conversations flowing and was surprised to witness jiho's honesty. she came off strong, but he became more curious and eager to get to know her the more they talked. jiho felt herself get excited, giddy, nervous and conscious around garam. she didn't know someone who was once a stranger can be this familiar and interesting to her.

naturally, they'll start sharing deeper conversations. they're already making progress by hanging out just the two of them. they're slowly becoming a more important presence in each other's lives. it was clear to others that there were intense feelings when the two lock eyes, you could feel the tension. garam cared for her a lot and even if he wasn't around, jiho felt like he was still there. thank god, they were soulmates. watching the two be together is as if you're watching a whole movie unfold in front of your eyes.  they definitely want each other. they did. jiho finally knew why her dad was so willing to offer everything to be with her mom, his soulmate. it felt just right. garam also knew he wants her to be in his life. no wonder his parents were so happy together.

then, comes the question everyone will be itching to ask— so, when are you guys gonna start dating? ah yes, nothing will be stopping the two from getting together but there are certain details others are unaware of. the question they'll ask each other is something important— do you like me because we're soulmates or because i'm who i am? both having lived with expectations on their shoulders, this question is needed before they can truly commit. jiho will be asking him to reassure herself, to gather the confidence to trust him fully. she wants to be happy and secure with him in the future. garam will ask this to make sure she will still be there even in the worst case scenarios of him not turning up to be the man he wants to be. he wants to be able to have her support if he faces defeat. they agree that fulfilling the expectations that come with successfully meeting your soulmate shouldn't be the main reason they commit. they want to be in it for their genuine feelings and with current circcumstances, they will put a lot of thought before deciding.

their name  on his right collarbone (°˖✧)

the day that started it  the day he turned seventeen, he rushed to strip himself in the bathroom. nothing yet. he showered, trying to rationalize the situation. days passed and then, came last week of august. at that point, he couldn't care less. he told his parents that he'll keep waiting. being the last week of summer, his parents encouraged him and his sister to swim in the pool. he came out wearing his swim trunks while his sister was ready to sip a glass of wine on a pool bench before garam dragged her into the pool with him. they emerged from the pool, asking their housekeeper for some towels.

when housekeeper mrs. park came to give garam a towel, she screamed, "there is a name on your shoulder, young master!" this grabbed everyone's attention. his parents rushed to his side to confirm it while his sister used the moment to deliver a toast before finishing that glass of wine. he caressed his right shoulder. he could see the ink. he asked mrs. park to take a picture of his name so he could take a look. kim jiho, it read. he sent the picture to seungmin, who replied with a bunch of emojis. he thought everyone was missing the point, "um, excuse me, i don't know anyone named kim jiho!" his sister immediately replied to him, "i don't know a kim taehyung either!"

he felt great to be named because his fate was somehow determined in that sense and also because he's named like his family. he had someone meant for him, how great is that? then, he remembered his girlfriend's name was definitely not kim jiho. well, how do i break this to her? she'd tell him that she wanted to know her name before he tells her his name. she promised to show her on her sweet seventeen, she never did. he figured she was unnamed but waited for her to tell him. she broke up with him eventually because she was indeed unnamed. it made him feel like a bad guy for some reason but it was in that moment, garam learned the side effects of being named.

the ending  they can at least sort things out, maybe things work out for the better and they could date.

 personality traits
positive: honest, graceful, understanding
neutral: cautious, passionate
negative: self-sufficient, shy, anxious
neutral good, infj, allie pressman : the new leader

 personality
honest
binnie was practicing the new choreo while jiho was paying attention to her. there was some details missing. "binnie, you can do better. let me be honest," binnie nodded, "you should use more power on the jumps and adjust the angle of the hands at the end. it looked awkward. you also have to start putting less pressure on the shoulders and ankle." jiho's feedback gave her friend a lot to work on but that's always been jiho, she always delivers constructive criticism.

graceful
"as expected of dance majors, us engineering major could never," a female student muttered to her male classmate as jiho walked past, clad in her athleisure wear. "nah, kim jiho's always so elegant, her mom was a ballerina, she was born to be graceful," the male student replied. it was not a lie. growing up, every day jiho had to practice walking with a sense of elegance to her as well as proper posture and manners.

understanding
garam dashed after training to where she was standing, in front of the campus gate. he was ten minutes late. . sweat dripping, out of breath, messy haired garam tried to say a sentence, "sorry, i was in training, didn't see your last text, thanks for waiting." she shook her head. she knew how tight his timetable was. "don't be sorry, i forgot you can't touch your phone in training. i should've taken my time." garam lit up, "let me make it up to you, one chocolate for miss soulmate coming right up!"

cautious
her upperclassman sighed, "jiho, why are you saying that we can't recruit this guy all of a sudden? he's perfect to be in our club!" jiho was hesitant to speak. she knew too well the risks and possible consequences. "i know that he's skilled and experienced but i have gathered proof of him assaulting one of the girls. we can't have someone with that behaviour in our club. i'm sorry, i wanted to be careful in how i break the news." her upperclassman softened, "no, don't be. this is good intel. just be more quick to tell me next time."

passionate
"woah, take it easy, girl!" binnie exclaimed as she witnessed jiho stumble to the ground. she was quick to help her friend out. jiho was sweating, her eye bags showing the lack of sleep, and her breathing heavy. "you should know when to rest, jiongs, you'll burnout like last time," binnie sighed. "everything has to be according to the plan, i won't stop now," jiho said as she stood up. there she goes again, pouring her heart out too much, binnie was worried for her.

self-sufficient
"jihong, ya need anything? i'm going to the vending machine," her dance project partner asked. she shook her head, earning a thumbs up from the taller guy. she was fine. she didn't need his help. when her partner returned, he asked, "can i give ya feedback?" she nodded. she silently listened as she was given several words on rhythm and posture. she was unfazed. "thank you, i'll figure it out on my own. you don't even need to help!" his partner shook his head, "you always do everything by yourself, this is a project for two! jiho, i want to help. let me point things out!"

shy
jiho was not one to curse, but gosh, she was really tempted to. so many strangers, where the is binnie? jiho didn't enjoy this. she hated unfamiliar places and strangers. then, a male student came over to her. "hiya there, i'm lee jangjun! what's your name? what major are you from? i'm in communications!" he was being friendly, she knows, but she was overwhelmed. in a quiet tone, she replied with a weak smile, "i'm kim jiho, dance major." she bowed without listening to the guy's next words and made a beeline for the toilet. , binnie, i need you right now!

anxious
"oh my god," eighteen-year-old jiho messed up her hair as she looked at her name. she has yet to meet this moon garam. she thought about it too much. her worries started to creep in, overwhelming her. i hate overthinking. jiho always remained unfazed in the face of criticism and praise. yet, she finds herself always crumble in the face of her thoughts and worries. this moment was no different. what if we never meet? what if we don't get along? what if they don't like the same music? what if he's a bad guy? what if he's a heavy smoker? she felt her head spin. "stop ing with my head, for god's sake."

 status  strangers

 first meeting
it was freshman year when jiho first heard of garam. binnie was showing a picture of seungmin, who she had a group project with in the mandatory programming class, with garam tagged in the picture. binnie told her that the tagged 'moon garam' could be her name just because it's the exact same name. sure, jiho has heard garam's name float around the conversations in her daily life but didn't want to jump to conclusions. last time she checked, there were a lot of moon garams on instagram so this guy couldn't be the one but she ended up stalking his feed, hesitant to press follow. binnie, frustrated, pressed the follow button on her behalf. garam immediately followed her back without paying attention to the username, causing jiho tossed and turned in her blanket out of embarassment. that's how they became silent followers, just observing each other without exchanging words.

these two have nothing in common other than following each other's instagram and being enrolled in the same university. their first official meeting was the day of the campus festival. garam was with his bros when jiho's theater club was set to perform. he was dragged to watch since one of his bros was dating one of the theater girls. that's when he saw the name that was showing through the left side of jiho's satin crop top. moon garam. he was sure of it. seungmin who was standing next to him saw the look on his face, "i think i saw your name on kim jiho. she's friends with binnie, the girl i told you about. i think she follows you on insta." well, i'll be damned. on impulse, he sent her a dm.

hello, this is second year moon garam. this may sound sudden but can we talk over our names? anywhere is fine. opening her dms after her performance, jiho knew she had to face him. she became more sure. they met face-to-face somewhere quiet. they couldn't break the awkward silence before she said, "i guess you have my name, then? i'm kim jiho." he nodded, "i can show you if you want" to which she agreed. kim jiho, clearly inked on his right collarbone. "well, congratulations, mr. soulmate, you have located me," she said as they shook hands, "let's try and be friends." she could feel her heart beat fast. this was the moment she was waiting for. garam smiled, "i'll dm you my number, we can text that way." he tried to stay cool. i finally found her

 interactions
before meeting, they did view each other's social media so they did have a certain image of each other in mind. to jiho, garam was from a different energy level while to garam, jiho seemed so sophisticated and calm. at first, they'll be awkward with each other despite the bold circumstances they first met under. they won't know each other well at first and garam will put in more effort to break the ice and share baseless chit chat with each other. jiho will get fed up eventually and start to throw in pennies for her honesty. garam will never expect that from her but that'll be the reason they loosen up. they'll try to get to know each other as well as close friends. the more conversations and meetups they have, they both figured that perhaps, this 'friendship' will turn out more interesting than they had thought.

they will bond a lot as conversations get deeper. garam will find a way to spend time with her after fencing training and jiho will make sure she reminds garam of his health. their interactions will be very visible on social media, though they will not give away what status they are exactly. garam finds her words of support for him motivating him before a competition, his thoughts slowly occupied by her. jiho never found it difficult to dance to romance, but she wonders why garam always appears whenever she thinks of romantic scenes. they are two people who are cautious with their actions and words so before admitting to having romantic feelings for each other, they'll stay in that grey area while sending clear signals towards each other.

☾°˖✧◝ bae yubin, twenty, student, unnamed — her best friend since high school and current roomate, yubin or more often called "binnie" is currently a second year computer programming major who is also in the theater club. jiho trusts binnie more than anyone with her secrets and daily life rants. despite difference in their names, the friendship they have is stronger than that and they'd do anything for one another.

kim jiho's private files!
their name  on her left ribcage. (°˖✧)

the day that started it : their pov  the day she turned seventeen, she was nervous to look in the mirror and face her fate. would she be an unnamed like her mother? would she be a named like her father? honestly, they were prepared to give her wisedom either way. she didn't get her answer all at once. it appeared the following week, to which she screamed. she was about to put on her sports bra when she saw it. moon garam, she sulked. there's nobody around her with that name. this new information was overwhelming. she was relieved that there was someone out there meant to be hers. she could already imagine the sparks and the romance but her worries started to come in. what if this moon garam was unnamed? what if they never meet? what if she falls in love with someone else? what if they don't fall in love like in the movies? she calmed down eventually and accepted her fate. she kept examining her name on her ribcage, wondering just what kind of person moon garam may be.

kim jiho's q&a!
so, who knows? who knows that you're named?  "well", she started to count with her fingers, "my parents and binnie are the only ones i told so far, i don't think i'll tell anyone else if unnecessary."

is there a reason why you told them/decided to keep it private?  "my dad is named but my mom isn't so things could've gone either way for me," she showed a weak smile. "your name on your body is something personal so i chose to keep it known to very few. it's something i'd rather not share lightly in public."

what are your feelings towards the opposite party?  "i'm not hostile to them, binnie and my mom are one of them," she slightly raised her voice, "but i am curious how it feels to be unnamed, the perks with not knowing is something being named can't have."

 garam's q&a
please introduce yourself!  he smirked a bit before taking, "hello there, my name's moon garam. it's a great day not to be training. be sure to support the fencing sabre team!" secondhand embarassment came late for him as he blushed.

have you told anyone about your current status? if so, what were their reaction?   he remembers that day clearly, "yup, couldn't help it since it happened in a rather open area. my parents were over the moon, very optimistic and eunhasoo toasted to it," he snickered, "but then again, i think my housekeeper screamed at me while seungmin sent in a lot of emoji faces. i was there, trying to make it a point to everyone that i didn't know a kim jiho!"

because you are a named, what are your current feelings towards the other party?  "no hard feelings and offenses to them at all. it's hard enough that they don't have a name on them but imagine the freedom!" he started humming, "it means no worries for the rest of your days."

how do you feel about the stigma that is with being a named? do you think it's a blessing or a curse?  his brain took a while to make up sentences. "okay, for me personally, having her name on my collarbone is a blessing. the stigma with being named makes sense since you are tied to someone you may not know. that's also me but right now, i'm thankful to be named like my parents and sister. "

why?  "i'm not into anyone at the moment and with this name on me," he pointed to the location of his name, "i don't really want to find someone other than her and i don't have to. i don't need to waste my energy being with other people. but then again, how you see it also depends on personal values. i feel lucky because now, i have more time to focus on improving my fencing." he let out a smile.

after being confirmed that you're named, have you've ever been in a romantic relationship with the opposite party?  "nope! wait," he tries to recall his past encounters, "okay, i may have had this highschool girlfriend who promised to show her name at her sweet seventeen. now that i think about it, she never ended up showing me. other than her, i didn't have time to date around. not even flings."

how did it feel? how long were you guys together? please state how you guys broke up.  "she was my highschool girlfriend, all the firsts were her so it felt great? i was sixteen, ya know, we were together for two years," he smiled with a familar warmth in his chest. he felt bad that he couldn't remember her name. ahjeong? ahyoung? or was it aeyoung? "anyways, we broke up before christmas. she broke up with me at our favorite cafe, crying that she ended up unnamed. she knew i was named so she said she wanted to meet someone unnamed." he stopped. he remembered that day, "it ended up a mutual break up. sure, it hurt a lot but i respect her decision. it must've been hard for her to come to that decision."

do you believe the term "soulmate," and do you believe that everyone has one?  "ah, yes," he crossed his arms, "i've always believed in that word. very romantic, magical in a way. yeah and sure, everyone has one. inked or not inked, everyone has one. it's the process that differs a bit. everyone deserves to have their own experiences in the process of falling in love and loving someone."

do you ever wish you were the other party?  "i do sometimes imagine what it'd be like to live a day as an unnamed. i might change my mind later but things are okay as it is now."
the end.

— alcohol, truth or dare, honesty, drunken messes
— jiho supporting him at competitions
— food, food, food...
— garam bragging about jiho to others
— not sure what else to write

questions/comments?  i took way too long to finish this because i had a rollercoaster ride of motivation. glad i finally gathered the power to finish this. also the instagram feed thing is in recent times after they become more close. i wrote this fencing student-athlete character watching some videos but now that i think about it, i shouldn't have but it has been done.
