— yena has been dancing since she was two. she's taken every kind of dance, and she excels at all of them. this is because she's incredibly hard working. she doesn't take no for an answer and will work and work until she accomplishes whatever goals she sets out for herself. despite her obvious talent, yena is very humble at her abilities.she's the first to deny that she's as good as people say she is, even though her abilities and accomplishments can speak for themselves. whenshe cares about something, she's very genuine in her feelings. she will go above and beyond to make sure the things she cares about are taken care of. she's also very loyal. it takes a little bit of work to earn her loyalty, but once you have it, you'll never lose it.

— yena is a dancer, and passion comes with that profession is remarkable. it can also be incredibly frustrating and annoying. yena throws herself one hundred percent into everything she does, both good and bad. she's also extremely competitive. even everyday things become a competition when yena is involved. she likes to be the best at everything and it can be very tiresome for those around her.

— yena, for all her strengths, has some very large flaws. she's always overly critical, especially when dancing. she expects herself, and everyone else to be perfect, and if they're not, she isn't shy to tell them so. she can also be a bit over dramatic in situations and tends to go overboard when things aren't nearly as bad as she makes them out to be. she can be petty and sassy, always speaking her mind and exactly what's going through it. she holds grudges and she gets revenge. she's very implusive, and if it feels right in the moment, she's not afraid to do it, despite any consequences that might come from her actions.

background

— when yena's parents met in college, they knew they were meant to be together almost instantly. her parents often referred to it as "opposites attracting" and how they couldn't deny instant feelings for one another. they were married in their mid twenties after graduating, while her mother continued to further her education. unfortunately, they became pregnant with their first child (yena) while she was pursuing her doctorate degree. despite the surprise, her parents were both thrilled when the little girl was born happy and healthy. a few months after her birth, her father was offered a job in brisbane, australia. after a lot of consideration between the two, they decided to move their little family to a new country. settling in was a bit hard, as neither spoke fluent english, but they made it work. by the time yena was old enough to learn languages, they were teaching her both korean and english.
— yena was three when her little brother was born. he rounded out the little family, and though yena wasn't very happy about it, she couldn't deny the idea of a living baby doll of her own. as they grew up, they fought and bonded like normal siblings, and by the time yena was six, they were really close. yena started tap, ballet and jazz when she was six, showing a distinct interest in the physical activity. from there, she branched out into hip hop and interpretive dance. by ten, she knew she wanted to be a dancer, and possibly even a singer. it wasn't until she was scouted by jyp when she was twelve that she even realized being an idol was a possibility. she had been dancing with her street crew when the agent had approached her and offered her the chance to audition. she fought with her father for several weeks before her mother and she finally convinced him to allow her to go to korea and audition. she was accepted after two rounds of audition and her parents made the choice to move back to korea to support her.
— yena began training less than two months after auditioning, while dealing with severe culture shock and while grappling with a language she'd only ever really used at home in passing. training was hard, and going to school on top of it was even harder. but she was determined to make her goals happen. when the realization that jyp had no intention of debuting another girl group soon, she decided it would be best to change entertainment companies. after discussing with her mother and father, she auditioned at a few agencies, yg being one of them. she didn't want to put all her faith in yg accepting her, but it was definitely her prefered entertainment company. she was accepted after 3 audition attempts in 2010. yg decided that they wanted her to focus on vocal training besides dance. they enrolled her in hanlim and made sure she got the best instruction. she really noticed the change in herself, her growth, within yg.
— when it was announced KLMN would be in the running for the new girl group, with the addition of a few new trainees, yena knew this was her make or break chance. she would either dazzle the judges and fans and make the group, or she'd go on to college and get a real job. that was her agreement with her father, and he was going to hold her to it.

— training background : yena originally entered jyp in 2008, at the age of 12. they were impressed with her dancing skills, but as they had just debuted a girl group the year prior, she only stayed with the company until 2010, when she left in favor of joining yg. as she'd gotten a bit older, she'd realized they were more her style and applied and joined the KLMN training group in october of 2010. in jyp she had focused mainly on dancing, but in yg she focused on dance, vocal lessons and japanese. it wasn't easy, as she was still required to go to secondary school, where she attended Hanlim Multi Art School. there were several years that she spent barely sleeping. her first "big break" came in 2014 when KLMN was featured on MIX&MATCH and she was selected to work with Jinju, B.I and Junhoe. they didn't win the challenge, but she'd had a taste of fame, and she wanted more of it. she worked even harder, making sure yg  (and everyone else) knew exactly who needed to debut in the next girl group.

— she can play the flute, as she was required to learn an instrument in school. she isn't a fan of the instrument and neglects playing it as often as she can.

yena and her father used to be really close when she was young. he doted on her and let her do basically anything she wanted. she was used to getting anything her heart desired, so when she realized her dream was to dance and be an idol, she immediately told him. unfortunately, he was very against the idea, and still to this day doesn't like her choice of career. he'd rather she went into something "normal" and is very vocal about it.

yena has always been closer to her mother than her father, but they're definitely not buddy buddy, so to speak. yena's mother understands the difference between being a mom and being a friend, and she doesn't cross that line. because of this, yena often finds it hard to talk to her mom. she is supportive of her daughter's dream to debut, much unlike her father.

joonki is yena's biggest fanboy. he's always cheering her on and refuses to let her give up - as if she'd ever do that anyways. they're close, though they've grown apart more recently as she focuses on trying to debut, and him on getting accepted to colleges. he's a smart kid, and stubborn to boot, but yena loves him dearly.

yeri has been next to yena every step of the way, from the moment she moved back to korea. they were instantly best friends after having one conversation and realizing their likeness. where yena's passion came in dancing, yeri's came in modeling and photography. despite her sometimes crazy schedules as a trainee, yena has always made time for yeri, and vice versa. they are two peas in a pod, and yeri might be slightly jealous that yena is under yg with her "oppa jiyong" even though she's not even close with the elder male.

— sunbae and good friend • kim jinhwan 김진환 / 23 / ikon main vocal and lead dancer / charming, understanding, reserved / 8.5
jinhwan and yena have been friends for several years now. even though she was kept away from the other "regular" trainees over the years, she'd naturally ran into certain people in the dance studios. one of them was almost always jinhwan, as he practiced constantly prior to debut - and even after. they bonded over their shared passion for dance and even help critique one another when needed. he's always teasing her and they have a very sweet relationship.

TELL ME HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THE SURVIVAL SHOW.

— She let out a soft sigh, not surprised in the question, but not really looking forward to answering it. "It's nerve wracking mostly. I've trained for years, but to have to compete even more to get a spot, it's a challenge I'm willing to accept."

YOU'RE AN ORIGINAL MEMBER, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE NEW GIRLS?

— She gave an almost catty expression, her eyes reading a lot deeper than the pretty smile that plastered itself on her lips. "The more competition, the harder to debut. I just hope these new girls don't get their hopes up too high. They are competiting against people who have vast training backgrounds and all. I'd feel bad if anyone was hurt in the making of this survival show."

WHAT SKILLS ARE YOU MOST CONFIDENT IN? WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT THE MOST?

— She had expected this question, as well, and already had a well thought out answer for the public. "My dancing and choreography can speak for themselves. I've been training in dancing since I was six. I've been recieving vocal training at yg's hand for six years now." She smiled. "But I think it's the way my body moves that makes me stand out. I just naturally move to the music. It's hard to recreate that natural instinct."

DO YOU HAVE A DREAM CONCEPT FOR THE GROUP, IF YOU MAKE IT AND COULD PICK?

— She let out a soft laugh, and looked up, thinking a little before giving a small shrug of her should. "I guess if I could do any type of concept, maybe something dark and y with a funky beat. Something that the base shakes and just really makes you wanna get up and dance. Something very different from the typical YG sound, but still solid."

WHICH SENIORS WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK WITH, IF GIVEN THE CHANCE?

— She smiled brightly, her eyes lighting up. "I'd love to work with Minzy sunbaenim from 2NE1. She's basically perfect and I'd love to learn everything I can from her. I also think it would be nice to work with IKON sunbaenims again. I had a lot of fun working on Dimelo with B.I and Junhoe-ssi."

WHAT ARE SOME WORDS YOU'D LIKE TO SAY TO THE VIEWERS?

— With a small smile at the camera, she gave a dip of her head politely. "Please cheer us all on, we need your votes and love a lot during this process. I hope you pick the best trainees for the new group. Fighting!" She ended the saying with a small fist and a bright smile.

WHAT WILL YOU SHOWCASE DURING THE FIRST EVALUATION?

— She smiled. "I will be dancing and singing 2NE1's debut song "Fire," but with my own twist on the choreography. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did choreographing it." [x] (0:00-1:26)
