PLEASE! - Question for you all

Hi, guys! ^^

So.. I've been thinking for a long time about this but I'm still unsure so I decided to ask you, exo fans, as well as other people.

I've always been mainly jongkey and 2min writer. I have many SHINee stories because I've been a fan for a long time and jongkey and 2min will always be my otp. But I once wrote a baekyeol story and although I liked writing about them, I was unsure if people will enjoy it.

I don't know the guys as much as their hardcore fans and although I read too many stories about exo (I enjoy reading about all bands) I still feel like I could make someone feel uncomfortable?

I love Baekyeol, Kaisoo, Hunhan, Taoris, Xiumin and Sulay but I'm worried that liking them won't be enough? Uh, I have no idea how to explain my struggle haha so let me ask you:

When you read stories.. do you compare characters with real idols? Like, you know.. that kind of thing: "Kai would never do this."  or such..?

I think that FFs should be all different and sometimes impossible because that's the power of fanfiction, right? You can do whatever you want with the story. But sometimes.. I wonder if people get mad at authors who make people's personalities different from real ones.

Please, tell me your opinion ^^

Thank you!

Hey!

As a former Onkey-writer turned EXO-writer I think I can somewhat understand your dilemma. At least I've been in your position before. And to just answer your question first, yes, I do care but I also don't? You know, it's strange but for me it depends entirely on how the character is written. A character can be "out of line" for the idol, if the character stays consistent and I love that. But I also enjoy when I can actually imagine said kpop idol do or say the things - sort of like "yes, I can see Xiumin do this even if this is completely AU". That's how I feel when it comes to SHINee as well.

I do think, though, that you get to know characters and idols better when you start writing them. Before I started writing, I didn't know how I liked the EXO members portrayed, which characteristics I put most emphasis on and which stereotypes bugged me to all hell. I got to know them with variety shows and at the same time analysed what I saw in my own way, creating what I believe is my unique way of seeing the EXO members - and thus creating the characters I now like to write about.

I can't imagine you'd offend anyone. Like we all start from somewhere and fact is; none of us know the real EXO-members anyway. So I do think you should just jump into it if you want to try.

And if you feel a little self-conscious, you can always read some more fics. That's what I do these days, lmao.

Anyway, good luck! And don't worry too much ^^
