Chaehee was born to her parents and two older sisters, Harin and Chaerin in 1994. As a child, Chaehee had to live in several different countries due to her father's work.

Chaerin became a YG Entertainment trainee in 2006 and debuted as a member of 2NE1 in 2009. Seeing her sister looking so cool when performing made Chaehee want to be an idol too, and Chaehee too ended up auditioning for YG Entertainment and being accepted. However unlike her sister, Chaehee was left in YG's basement for many years, only to meet an underhyped debut as a soloist.

Chaehee debuted in 2015 with the single Why Don't You Know, which ended up getting little attention as it wasn't YG's usual concept and with Blackpink overshadowing her. A few months later, Chaehee released Roller Coaster. YG thought that it would get more attention due to the visuals in the video, but instead, members of the public said the glow-in-the-dark effects hurt their eyes and complained that projecting videos onto Chaehee while she was dancing was too distracting.

Back when Chaehee started training, she was an innocent, sweet, bubbly little 15 year old girl who thought the world could do her no wrong. Two of her first friends were Choi Aerin and Shin Jiae. Later, the gang of three got to know Jennie, Chaeyoung (Rose), Lisa, Jisoo, Kiseul and Hana.

In 2014, Jisoo, Chaeyoung, Lisa and Jennie along with Aerin, Jiae, Kiseul, Hana and another trainee called Jinheo were chosen to be in a 9-membered group called Pinkpunk, leaving Chaehee upset as to being unable to debut with her friends. Eventually the debut of the group was postponed due to Park Bom's drug scandal. The group later failed to debut due to several members leaving YG Entertainment. Chaehee debuted as a soloist the year after, but with the debut of the new girl group Blackpink (I'm not saying who are the members because everyone knows) and Chaehee's debut MV's concept being different from YG's usual concepts, Chaehee ended up being overshadowed by them. Jisoo, Jennie, Rose and Lisa eventually debuted as a 4 -membered group called Blackpink in 2016. Chaehee thought it was her fault she could not do as well as them, and decided that she had to stop seeing them as friends and work hard to be as good as, or even better than them.

After Chaehee released another underhyped solo in 2016, YG decided to stop promoting her as a soloist. At least Chaehee still had her friends, right? Wrong. Hana, Jinheo, Kiseul, Aerin and Jiae had been chosen to debut in a girl group called E2W in 2017. Chaehee was not ready to give up on her idol career and wanted to try to prove herself. She knew very well that her age would be a disadvantage if she was complacent and didn't buck up. No longer was her priority to make friends, but to work hard so she could finally stand on the stage. Finally, in 2018, Chaehee was chosen to be a member of Empire.
