Samuel Tam Chikin

PINYIN:

✩ Tán Zhìjiàn

NICKNAMES:

✩ Panda - If you only take one look at this guy's face, you'll know why they call him the panda. He has droopy eyes with dark circles, and while he desperately tries to hide his dark circles, most fans think it looks cute on him.
✩ Demon - he got this nickname during idol producer, because during vocal class, he once made his eyes appear fully white when he rolled them up to try and reach a high note. It was terrifying to some, hilarious to others. At least it made people recognise him more. here's a screenshot
✩ the master - Chikin's parents were all about traditional martial arts, and it was one of the reasons they moved away from Hong Kong to the ancient town of Pingyao. Ever since Chikin could walk, he was teached martial arts, and it was the base of his clean dancing and amazing footwork. Since he's probably the best at martial arts from the show, he's called the master.

LANGUAGE SPOKEN:

✩ Cantonese - native, his parents are both Hong Kongese, and they grew up, met and married in Hong Kong, but on a holiday they fell in love with the ancient town of Pingyao, so they moved there and settled down before Chikin was born. He was raised bilingual, learning both Cantonese and Mandarin at an almost equal level. His cantonese is still the best of all the languages he knows because he always speaks it at home with his family.
✩ Mandarin - fluent, as said before, Chikin was raised bilingual, and his mandarin is almost on the same level as his cantonese.
✩ English - conversational, he has learned some English at school before, but it's not that good. He can survive speaking english but he has a very strong accent. At least it's better than his Korean.
✩ Korean - basics, Chikin's Korean knowledge is... quite low at the moment. He can say some basic sentences but it's really hard for him to have a conversation. He can understand, read and write it, but speaking it is just so damn hard. He also didn't have much time to prepare before the show. During the show he'll stay up later than everyone else to study Korean and improve.

APPEARANCE:

✩ What stands out about Chikin is definitely his eyes. His droopy, sad and tired-looking eyes. While many see it as a charm point, Chikin himself isn't so sure about that. He's way prouder of his big, plump lips. He just has the image of a soft, fluffy panda with puffy cheeks and a nose that's far from sharp. His hair is fluffy and gets messed up easily. He has dyed it ashy blonde during idol producer, but for Bigshot he has dyed it a dark greyish blue, and people say that this is a better look on him. He's heavier than your usual idol, but that's not only fat, he also has quite some muscle. He's like a teddy bear who is both muscled and has a little layer of soft fat on him. He doesn't have abs because they're hidden behind the fat layer, but he does have thighs and legs to die for. His leg muscles are developed very well because his martial arts and dance style require very strong and precise footwork.

FASHION:

✩ Chikin's style is really nothing special unless when he's styled by stylists. He prefers comfy, simple clothes without many special details around them. He mostly wears black jeans with rips on his knees, white sneakers and a bright colored hoodie or T-shirt. Colors he likes to wear the most are blue, yellow and sometimes pink. Even in training he keeps up with his usual color scheme, but he exchanges the jeans for a pair of black basketball shorts. But even though he wears most shirts for both training and just casual clothes, he'll always make sure to switch shirts after or in between training, it's not like he's a dirty man. No, not at all. He hates it when his shirt is wet, so he always brings several shirts to training and switches shirts during breaks. Shield your eyes, minors, cause he's probably going to show some skin on camera without even bothering. The poor boy just wants to change shirts and feel clean.

What's Tinder? Or Twitter? Chikin not know- Is it game?

the boy who doesn't know modern life

mbti type: ISTP / Hogwarts house: Ravenclaw

PERSONALITY TRAITS:
(+): active, hard-working, humorous, neat
(0): silly, conservative, perfectionist
(-): timid, hot-headed, clumsy, airheaded

PERSONALITY:

Active and hard-working: Chikin's parents always greatly valued hard work, a healthy life and determination. So they did their best to raise Chikin to be like this too. It worked, because he has become a very hard-working guy who won't stop until exhaustion really hits, someone else stops him or he reaches his goal, which is perfection. He has also inherited his love for martial arts and being active from his parents. He only did martial arts in his early life, so it has become like his life fuel. If Chikin is unable to lose his energy by practicing his martial arts or other sports, he'll become tense and even more irritable than he already is. He values a healthy life and won't stand any laziness.

Humorous and silly: Once Chikin is used to his surroundings and feels comfortable, he'll completely bloom. He's not an open book, he's still an introvert, but he'll start cracking jokes and acting silly. Once he's comfortable, he'll be a crackhead who is able to bring laughter to the others despite the language barrier. he'll be able to lighten up the mood with his funny behavior and good sense of humor.

Neat and perfectionist: While Chikin doesn't appreciate laziness, he doesn't appreciate slobs either. He really doesn't like feeling dirty and having dirty surroundings, and always tries to keep it all looking nice and neat. He reacts heavily to bad stench, especially of food gone bad or body odor. Chikin wants everything to be neat and perfect, and while that is usually good, it sometimes has a bad effect on him. He isn't happy with just good, he wants everything to be perfect, especially his dance. He puts so much effort and thought into his dances and martial arts, trying to make them as clean and perfect as possible, and he pays attention to every tiny detail. It shows in his dance and is also hearable in his vocals.

Conservative: while being outside from Pingyao for his training time has changed his beliefs to more modern ones, he still is used to living traditionally. He's not really fond of excessive use of technology and still doesn't have any social media accounts. He can perfectly survive without a mobile phone, television and internet. He's used to it, even though he does have to admit that it is easy to use. He's still not the type to use it excessively like everybody else, and only uses modern technology when it's really necessary. He's used to the traditional life in the ancient town.

Timid: Chikin might become a crackhead once he is comfortable, it does take him some efforts to actually get comfortable. In the beginning, Chikin is actually very timid, and he doesn't easily open up to people. He needs a while to get used to new surroundings and new people, and he'll shut himself off to get adjusted by himself, but later on he'll actually be open towards friendships. He's also really bad at accepting compliments, he'll become shy and deny them, and he can even get mad if the people complimenting him are persistent.

Hot-headed: this might become a big problem on the show, because no one expects this until it is too late. Chikin gets irritated at the smallest thing, especially with his perfectionist and conservative sides. When one team member slacks off for just a moment, he'll be mad at them. Under his command, no one will be able to rest until they are miserable or have perfected it. Because of Chikin's spicy temper, the show gets way more heated than it should be. He gets mad way too fast, and while he does realise that himself, he can't stop himself, he can't hide his anger. Don't mess with him. That cute face can actually become quite scary.

Clumsy and airheaded: sometimes Chikin himself is in the way of his desire for perfection. He can't help it, but he's quite clumsy. The poor guy sometimes loses track of his mind or body, and then he'll do an unintentional body gag, drop something or simply forget what he was doing. He is sometimes so focused on getting to his goal that his mind becomes foggy and completely drifts off.

BACKGROUND:

Little Chikin was an only child. His parents were Hong Kongese and quite eccentric too. They were martial arts fanatics who were conservative and had the dream of living a traditional life. They even reached the point that they became technophobes. Yeah, that's weird nowadays. They were some sort of pacifists who didn't like technology taking over, were paranoid that AI would take over the world, so they moved to Pingyao after falling in love with the city, and that all happened before they got their lovely baby boy. Chikin was an adorable child, and he was raised quite well. He got teached martial arts since a young age, and he'd later on specialise in Tien Shan Pai, a northern style of kung-fu that emphasizes on rythm and strong footwork. Chikin liked it a lot. The only problem he would have while growing up is that he wouldn't be used to life with the modern advanced technology he'd later on encounter. When Chikin was back in Hong Kong once to visit his family, his cousin was shocked at how behind he was on the modern life. She showed him some pop music, kpop, to be exact. T-ara, who were very big in China. Chikin was immediately hooked. His parents didn't want him to become a kpop fan, because they didn't think it was good for him, but Chikin didn't listen. When he had the chance, he'd go to a friend's place and use their phone and computer to listen to the music he liked and just look up information. How could he become like them? Coincidentally, his friend thought the same, and said that they should go to the big cities, trying to find a company for them.

In 2015, they decided to leave, even though Chikin's parents didn't agree. It took a few auditions because neither were experienced in music, but they eventually got taken in by a company called CNC entertainment. Chikin and his friend started to work hard to improve their skills and become idols. They had a trainee contract of 3 years. Because of his knowledge of Tien Shan Pai, a martial art that required clean footwork and sense of rythm, Chikin had the feel for dancing. But because his style was so different from the usual dancing, he stagnated. During training, he and his trainers discovered that his singing was actually really promising, and he had a sense for it, even though he never got any lessons for it.

When the chinese survival show Idol producer was announced, CNC applied with some of their trainees. Chikin and his friend being two of them. They were able to join the show, and it would be Chikin's first public appearance as trainee, his first experience. It was so exciting. In the beginning, Chikin didn't really get much screentime, but gradually started to gain more attention with his performance but also crackhead personality. He ended up rising towards #28, and would get eliminated right before the finals. Chikin thought that he was set, ready to go. But CNC didn't have plans to debut him any time soon, and his contract ended not so long after idol producer. Chikin was of course very disappointed, but he didn't let that stop him. He had his eyes set on Korea this time. But how could he get there? He was going abroad for the first time in his life except for going to Hong Kong. it was scary. He didn't know Korean, he didn't know the culture... How was he going to survive?

Somehow, Chikin's willpower kept him going until he got accepted in NRG entertainment. Little did he know that just mere weeks after his arrival, he would already be in this damn show.

RELATIONSHIPS:

✩ cousin - Elly Tam Fala (21) / college student / cheerful, sweet, clumsy / 8/10
The one who started it all. The one who showed Chikin T-ara back when he was a young teen. He's eternally thankful to her and Elly really likes that she made him discover what he wanted to do. They don't see each other often cause Elly is a college student in Hong Kong. They write letters to each other, because Chikin prefers this over texting. (fc: Li Zixuan)

✩ best friend - Gao Liwei (21) / trainee with OACA / awkward, caring, airheaded / 10/10
They both came from Pingyao, and went out to become idol together. They joined CNC together, went on idol producer together (Liwei was eliminated in the second elimination), but when their contracts with CNC ended, they had to separate. Liwei has now joined OACA entertainment and might debut sooner or later as well. They are best friends and Liwei forced Chikin to get a phone just so they could text. It's the only thing Chikin usually uses it for. And it's one of those old Nokia unbreakable stones. (fc: Jing Peiyao)

talent twins:

✩ vocal: Gohn
✩ dance: Zhang Yixuan (audio is a bit off)

Trainee life:

✩ It all started out with his best friend at CNC entertainment, and he needed a lot of adjustment time. It didn't start out well, he didn't know anything about normal, modern life, and on top of that, his main talent, martial arts, didn't seem to be that useful after a while. He was amazing at the dances that involved it all, but once he had to dance regularly, he was just average. It became clear that he wouldn't be good for a dance position. Gladly, his vocals developed so well that he found a talent to be really proud about besides his martial arts. After idol producer ended, he thought he could get his debut, but both his and Liwei's contracts ended, so they left. Chikin wanted to go even further from home, and went to Korea. He has only been here for a few weeks, and his adjustment time has begun again. Gladly there are many who are prepared to help him, but he'll study korean a lot by himself when the others are resting or sleeping.
