Well, I've experienced this. In fact, I was in a long distance relationship for 4 years
It can work if you make it. Communication is the most important.
Plus trust and commitment.
If it ever gets to the point when you and your SO aren't putting in a decent amount of effort, then there is no point in just hanging on.
If your SO is putting in like 10%, and you're doing 90%, then I'd say no, that isn't healthy.

It would also be necessary to meet once in a while, so if that isn't possible, then it will be difficult to make it work.
There's no point in hanging on to something (mistake that I made)
If you or your SO start to have doubts about whether to continue or not, then it may be better to break things off at that point and try to stay friends

I'm just telling you things from my experience

Well no matter it far or close , trust and loyal is what needed ... Since you know cheating not happend cause of the distant but because the feeling that of unsure of our partner ... To me as long as we do truely love each other we wont betray and work hard till the day we will be in each other arms :) .... Anyway do what you believe what right for you ʕ•ﻌ•ʔ

I think depends on both sides. If you and your partner are willing to make the commitment .
