Disrespectful Interviews With Korean Pop Idols (and Asian Idols in General): This Needs to Be Addressed.

TL;DR is at the bottom.

If you guys haven't seen the video, here is the link: https://twitter.com/_H0NGJOONG/status/1072281364253167616

Youtube link to Access' video with a stupid clickbait title: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXYTU2cFNE0

(Monsta X Are So Excited To Learn BTS Got A Grammy Nom | Access)

^What kind of title is this.

The Twitter video shows a short clip taken from an interview that Access Hollywood had with Monsta X, who were the first K-Pop group to perform at Madison Square Garden at the Jingleball event.

This is big news for them and they deserve to be recognized for their achievement. But guess what?

They didn't get recognized. Instead, they were basically forced to acknowledge the achievements of another Korean group. The interviewer was super disrespectful and shows this through her condescending tone. Right after Monsta X talk about their achievement (Madison Square Garden), this lady proceeds to say, "Did you know that BTS got a Grammy nomination today?" "Surely in the future, you guys might be able to make it too." (I'm not quoting exactly, but that's the gist of it.)

What appalls me in all of this is that the members of Monsta X do not look "excited" at all when she says that, which contradicts their tweet caption as shown below:

Do these faces look excited to you? No, no they don't. And to top it off, Monsta X showed a LOT of respect by following up and congratulating BTS, when they should've been congratulating themselves. It makes me so sad to see that this interviewer was trying to drop BTS's name for clout, in a "let me just pull out the only Korean band I know out of my and drop it for the views to these other Koreans" manner. Additionally, I may just be speculating, but her tone also makes it seem like they don't know how to speak English at all, when they are trying their best to communicate. There have been a lot of instances where the interviewer makes slight interruptions, and overall the atmosphere is just awkward and cringeworthy

To end things off, I was extremely unpleased and uncomfortable watching this video. It was blatant disrespect on Access' part, and seemed to belittle another international artist that has their own achievements. I do not stan Monsta X and this interview was disrespectful towards both them and BTS. Focus on one group and leave other groups out of it, thank you. I personally feel like interviewers (specifically American ones) should do some more research.

TL;DR: Interviewer was a total that tried to look like she knew stuff by dropping BTS's name and achievements on Monsta X, belittling their own achievements. Extremely awkward, rude, and uncalled for.

I watched the video yesterday and I was absolutely horrified. It was really rude and honestly dismissive of Monsta X's achievements, which is sad because they performed at the Jingle Ball! They deserved someone that didn't undermine their achievements
