BACKGROUND: xiaoxia was born in beijing. she has an older sister, lichun, and a twin brother, qiufeng. her parents both worked very hard to make sure their children had good lives, so oftentimes, they would work later, and lichun would have to take care of her younger siblings. however, it's not like her parents didn't care about the kids; in fact, they made sure to take time off every so often so that their entire family could do something fun together. because of this, xiaoxia's pretty close with her entire family. after she started school, xiaoxia's parents were really strict on her grades (as are all asian parents lol). they made sure to sign her up for a lot of supplementary classes so she would be advanced in her academics. when she was younger, xiaoxia didn't understand why and would often cry, but then her parents would yell at her to just do the work already, and then they would leave for work. even though she hated it, xiaoxia did her work anyway, and as she grew older, her grades stayed above everyone else's, and she finally understood why her parents went through the trouble of enrolling her in outside classes.
when she was in middle school, xiaoxia discovered super junior after finding lichun watching their mv of mr. simple. she tried to gather some friends to make a cover group, but it failed. her parents found out and punished her for thinking about things outside of school. xiaoxia felt wronged, but she understood how important it was to get good grades and go to college so that she could get a good job. even though she still liked to listen to kpop, she put everything down to focus on school. when it was time for high school, xiaoxia went to a magnet school that attracted the top students from each middle school in the area. it was farther away from home, so she had to take the subway there and back every day. while there, she met one of her best friends, shen mengyao, who made her realize that life isn't really all about grades, no matter what her parents say. xiaoxia and mengyao would often explore the city and go out to play in the park after they did all their homework, and they often talked about life and school and the universe.

LOVE STORY: actually, xiaoxia was just out shopping with mengyao one saturday. they decided to go for a cup of coffee when suddenly, this dude bumped into her, spilling her drink all over her shirt. at first, xiaoxia was pretty mad, but the guy apologized profusely and offered to buy her a new shirt. she lowkey thought he sounded baekhyun, but she didn't think much about it and took him up on the offer of a new shirt (hey, he did offer). mengyao decided to go with them since, well, strange guy in a strange country, right? but since she was way more well-versed in kpop, she realized who he was before xiaoxia did and nearly screamed. instead of screaming, she told xiaoxia that she had something to do and left, leaving her alone with him. ('you gotta get your game on! get the boy!'). it was only when he paid that xiaoxia finally recognized who he was. she wasn't a very big fan, but he was at least happy that she recognized him. since neither of them really had anything to do, they decided to go get coffee again, since the first time sort of failed. over coffee, they became friends, and he learned that she was here for school. he insisted on helping her with korean and insisted that his group members knew chinese, so that was how they got each other's numbers. she didn't text him right away; she thought he was too enthusiastic and didn't know how to feel about being friends with a kpop idol. but he texted her constantly, about how was your days and is school hard for yous and hey do you want to meet ups. finally, if only to get him off her back, she agreed to meet his group.
that was a bad idea. bad in relative terms. because his group was ing huge and the amount of people lowkey overwhelmed her, but then he was by her side yelling over the din and asking her to speak her mind, and then he was the one who introduced all the members, pointing out specifically 'oh, he can speak chinese', 'he's really good at finding food', and stuff like that. she remembers how caring he was, always interrupting the conversation to let her speak, making sure she was having a good time, and genuinely listening to her.
she decided that she wouldn't ignore his texts anymore. that turned out to be a great idea since they met up on free days and explored the city. he wasn't from seoul either, so they could find out more about the city together. he taught her a lot of korean, and she tried to teach him more chinese (keyword tried). throughout the months, they got to know each other better, and she found that she couldn't keep her mind off him. she began to follow up10tion on tv shows and they started hanging out more and more. in a way, it was almost good that up10tion wasn't that popular because it meant that they had a lower chance of getting caught. even though the members often teased them for being so close, no one mentioned anything about dating since they topic is sort of taboo for kpop idols, especially young ones such as up10tion.
but one day, xiaoxia found herself watching one of their live stages, and she just knew that she was in love with him. she'd never been in love before, but she just knew this time, that she didn't want him to smile at other girls or to talk with other girls or to even look at any other girl. because he shared his coffee with her, and he went shopping with her, and he helped her with her homework when she couldn't understand, and he let her sleep on him in the subway, and he listened to her worries, and he let her cry on his shoulder. and she didn't want to lose him to another girl. but she was too scared to say anything about it, especially since he's an idol and shouldn't be dating anyone at all, much less someone not an idol.
she straight up stopped texting him, but he blew up her phone and even called mengyao. so in the end, they met up again in the coffee shop, and he was all like did i do smth wrong?? i'm sorry if i did smth wrong i swear i'll change. and she couldn't stand it anymore but suddenly she forgot all her korean o all she could say was i love you. and he just stopped and was like wow i never thought you would be the one to confess.

that was a bad idea. bad in relative terms. because his group was ing huge and the amount of people lowkey overwhelmed her, but then he was by her side yelling over the din and asking her to speak her mind, and then he was the one who introduced all the members, pointing out specifically 'oh, he can speak chinese', 'he's really good at finding food', and stuff like that. she remembers how caring he was, always interrupting the conversation to let her speak, making sure she was having a good time, and genuinely listening to her.
