Pepper Squirrel

My husband is growing peppers, specifically Harbenaros and Carolina Reapers. There's a tiny garden near the back of our house where he's growing the first, and he snuck the Reapers into our flower garden in the front. Well, we live in a private neighborhood tucked in a wooded area, so we have a lot of little woodland critters that bebop around our place.

Including a kleptomaniac squirrel.

A couple days ago I see the little guy hopping around the Harbenaro plants, just being a cute bundle of gray fluff. Next thing I know, he has a pepper in his mouth and is scampering to the woods. And it hits me, this squirrel just stole one of my husband's harbenaros.

Oh .

I'm thinking to myself, this little guy's week is about to be ruined. But, no, that wasn't the last of our fluffy thief.

Yesterday he showed up again while I was on our porch and hopped over to me just long enough to show me he had a little, shiny red pepper in his mouth and he took off again.

I'm just happy he raided the plants in the back of the house and not the front. We would probably have a dead squirrel if he did (Carolina Reapers are currently the record holders for the world's hottest peppers).

And now today what do I see? That's right, our little pepper thief is back. I think he has an addiction.
