How betareading works?

As I want to hire a betareader I've been wondering: do betareaders all have a different way of working or there is just a standard on how to do it?

Do I need them as coauthors and they proofread the chapters put on draft or I send a file/ or copy paste what I wrote?

(Yes just dumb questions of an inexperimented writer in proofreading)

You can work on Google Docs w/ them (which I find to be the easiest) because there, they can directly make comments/edit your work and if you put it on the right setting, it also shows you what they changed exactly.
The first time I beta-ed for someone though, I was just added as a co-author for their story and I would copy and paste their work onto a drafted chapter and edit it there. That's slightly less convenient than Docs but good if you don't want to share your email/etc. with your beta.

Hope this helps!
