catching everyone's eye, she entered the room in her dyed red hair she's sported for over a year now. standing at 170 centimeters, her red hair was not the only reason she caught everyone's eye. her proportional, just-enough legs were able to wow others and regardless of any possible critic, her strides are always full of confidence, without any hesitation. throughout the show, she will probably change her hair color only once; halfway, she will transition into a hazel color. she has no further issues with weight, though the numbers on the scale sway a lot throughout the show due to stress and fear of gaining. she is a rather neat person and through the broadcasting of the show, is praised on her bareface and her confidence in it. may or may not have fooled around in front of the camera while cleansing her face.

born to a marketing director father and a human resources director mother, the young girl who dreamt of being a stewardess began dreaming of music and songs after her tenth birthday when her grandmother taught her how to play the piano. with her grandmother's help, the two created a short birthday jingle that became a special birthday tradition between the two. the next couple of years, she spent going to piano lessons and vocal lessons. she even got to compete in a singing competition for kids her age and won first place. she was rather optimistic about her musical dreams before becoming an idol trainee at a major company but after she was sorted into the trainee system, she started to be driven away from her main goal of becoming an artist, her own type of music creator. after leaving the trainee system, she had just a year to focus on her studies so she could enroll in any college's music department. her mother and father being alumnis of boston university, they highly recommended said university but she declined, she wanted to aim big with the likes of julliard, cleveland, vienna, sydney. a natural-born explorer, she rejects the idea of enrolling into the colleges in south korea and wanted to risk it all with studying abroad.

it was the year 2009, after her middle school talent show that she was street-casted by an sm entertainment agent as she was walking hand-in-hand with her grandmother. with the support of the matriach convincing her parents to support her, the innocent middle schooler accepted and later on, auditioned for sm entertainment. the young girl was taken aback at the environment amongst the trainees. as she is one of the younger trainees, she was mostly taken care of by older trainees, most notably then-trainees bae joohyun and kang seulgi. she matured, both in mental and physical points. she persevered when things were not working out, she had to learn to hold back tears and to be soaked in the sweat of her hard work. the older trainees took care of her even when they were tired themselves; there was a strong bond amongst those who go through the same ordeal. the male trainees see her as the cute younger sister and the female trainees basically raised her. even if that was the case, it was still tough for her, of course. she longs for a creative and leisurely atmosphere where she is able to convey her ideas and create her own style. that was not sm entertainment, where there are years worth of techniques and lessons with a uptight system. in that agency, if you do not fit the system or cannot endure it, feel free to exit and that is exactly what she did. saying farewell to her fellow trainees with one final group hug, she left the agency in 2013 after not making the sm rookies lineup or red velvet's debut lineup and to pursue her education as her grandmother adviced her to pursue music in a different angle; college. though she couldn't find success during her trainee period at sm entertainment, she vows to find it somewhere else, one way or another and she will show just how improved she is, doing things her way.

in the fall of her sophmore year at berklee, she released an album of songs she's personally made and sung herself, titled "boston 2017". the album contain songs that were not used for assignments, with lyrics of incidents that happened during her time in berklee. several of her close friends who also come from korea featured on a couple of the tracks, while her other friends who are not from korea gave her a lot of advice and feedback. she released the album on her youtube channel, with self-produced lyrics video for each song. you could play her album on naver music, soundcloud, and spotify under the name halley ryu. the fall of her junior year, she released another album of songs she's shelved throughout the year. this time, the feedback was hot and many listened to the album, telling her it seemed to suit the fall in boston so well; rainy, gloomy, sentimental and soft. the album was named "fall, you and i".
due to these releases of her, she quickly became a rising indie sensation with her unique tone and easy-listening songs. her audiences include those in their teenage years, early 20s, and early 30s, mostly korean and japanese. those from western countries who don't understand korean listen for the ambience she creates. those who listen to her releases are not people who are attracted to korean pop idol groups and so, those who listen to idol music in the likes of the mainsteam pop do not know who she is. she gets exposed to those idol fans through recommendations or rumours that she was the mastermind behind this group's song (which, of course, is not true as she is not yet in a position to create for others).

COMMENTS: i hope you liked reading her and i hope some of the things i wrote made sense because idk, sometimes it gets confusing. i can't wait to hear from this fic, tho. also, to make it more clear, if she doesn't make it, she wouldn't keep trying to make it big in korea. she'll go back to the states and create her own music, maybe join in a music studio and live life like an ordinary music student (maybe even dating and stuff korean idols can't do).
