Do you guys prefer long or short chapters?

I'm curious if you -- as a reader -- prefer reading chapters that are long or short.

To give an idea, I consider short chapters 1500~2000 words or less. Long chapters would be 2000+ words.

I know it all depends on the story and what the author wants to explore.... but if there was an ultimatum of you choosing a chapter length, which would you choose?

OuO,, thanks for sharing your answer !

I like WRITING short chapters LOL
but usually all my chapters turn out long for some reason even if I don't try to ;A;

as a reader though, I guess long?? 2000 words seems pretty short to me tbh so I would usually like 3000-4000 words, kinda like a chapter length of a published book? usually I would prefer to not have to continuously click on the next page button unless there's a purpose behind it, and it's helpful when I don't have wifi and I forgot to use the save-offline button so I can just slowly read the chapter I'm on if it's lengthy. and also I have a slow device so clicking next page frustrates me orz

I used to ask this question, but recently I found that it's better for me to write short chapter. Sometimes I went over to the 3k range and would push forward to 4k ( my habit) and had to pull myself back. It started recently when I tried to find a writing style for a story of mine and found that short range works well with me. This way I can update as frequent (I can even update 3 times a week compare to my 4-5k once a month lol) and have less writer's block. It really depend on you, OP. Do whatever you think fit for your writing style and giving you less of a headache. a 4k chapter could be daunting on you and would stress you out. If you work through 1-2k a chapter, you'll find yourself feeling less stress, and in the end, you can merge two together and update ^^.

For readers, they would definitely want a lot from you. So I found a great way to give them whatever they want while I can still write without stress. Short chapters, but once a week update. Less daunting.

If the chapter is long, it’ll be easier for me to comment on my thoughts about the chapter. It’s okay if the chapter is short too, that only means that I’ll be able to read it finish very quickly. But usually, I prefer long chapters, because I like giving long comments and I prefer my comments to last at least three sentences or more, so short chapters make it more difficult for me to think of what to comment, aside from, “I look forward to the next update!”

Personally, I like writing long chapters. I like writing very descriptively, and the last time I tried to write not-so-descriptively, I ended up having a few of my paragraphs being TOO descriptive compared to the rest of my story. So, yeah, I can’t really help myself from writing long chapters. :’D
