Rant

‘The more comments I get the faster I’ll update.’

‘Depending on how many comments I get, that’s how fast I will update.’

‘I lost motivation to update because lack of comments.’

‘Authors abandoned stories because lack of feedback.’

‘Authors don’t feel appreciated.’

‘Silent readers were the cause authors left.’

‘I killed one of the character because lack of comment.’

It started when you decided to write a story because you have this idea that been in your head for a long time. You already have full idea how the story going to run from the start to the end. You draw a plotline - the head, the body and the tail. You already know what kind of dramas you're going to put in. You chose your characters. Again…you already know how the story going to end. ‘Ahhh… this is going be a great story.’ You’re so hype and excited to tell people about your story. Then you post first chapter. At that time, you have zero reader, still you post first chapter.

After a while, you will bring us back to the top.

Why do you need feedbacks from readers to complete you story?

Why do you need readers to motivate you to write for next chapter?

It’s your story. You already know what’s going to happen next. Whether it’s good or bad, it’s your story so finish it yourself! No need to go yelling and screaming telling 'I cannot continue this story anymore because I lost motivation to write due to lack of feedbacks.'

If you say you need the feedbacks because you want to improve your writing, I say go to the correct people, to professional reviewers, not asking feedbacks from 13yrs old retard like me!

Silent readers are not the cause of your lack of motivation to write. It’s within you.

The number of subscribers, views and upvotes already shows how much your stories were loved. Less of those mean your story is not up to readers liking. Simple as that. Why forced for comments/feedback? Do you want to get it out based on pity? The real feedbacks came unexpectedly. Usually this feedback will tell what is wrong with the story but in a nice way. Even only one or two this kind of feedback once in a while, but this is what you need. Not min 30 comments for every update!

Comment/feedback is just like a respect - you earned it, you cannot ask for it!

I'm not encouraging silent readers because I'm a writer too.

I shouldn't be angry with silent readers because part of me is one of them too. And I know why I become silent reader sometimes.

Sorry for my bad English.

Exactly how may motivation feedback or encouraging feedback (or so you called it) do you need for you to be able to complete your story? From all of your subscribers? For each chapter? What kind of motivation do you want from your readers?

As a writer myself, it is good to receive comments... I mean A LOT OF COMMENTS on each update but it's ok if I don't. If I feel my story is not worth to be posting anymore then I'll just put it back in my wordfile or delete it. Maybe I'll start new story.

Generally, I disagree with a lot of what you said. Unless you ARE an author, it's actually pretty hard to understand why comments are motivation. Also, this: "If you say you need the feedbacks because you want to improve your writing, I say go to the correct people, to professional reviewers, not asking feedbacks from 13yrs old retard like me!"

1) Reviewers are not always available.
2) It's extremely disrespectful to generalize all readers as "13 year olds" because a majority of my readers are a) older than that and b) actually give decent feedback. A reviewer and a comment feedback is extremely different and I can actually get more help asking my readers about things sometimes than requesting for a review that may potentially take weeks to complete.

OMG I just wrote a blog about this. I totally agree with everything you said here. Love the part where you said authors should go to reviewers for feedback, not 13 year old kids. :)
