That Time of Year, Again

For those of you who have been to my profile page, you know I'm from the state of Maine. Yeah, I have to mention it's an American state. Why? Because I've run into a lot of Americans, who, for some reason, think that Maine is either a part of Canada, or worse, another country altogether.

Anyway, as I stated in the title, it's that time of year again.

Tourist season. :(

A delightfully awkward time of year. -_-" Why? Because a lot of tourists I've run into have preconceived ideas about Maine and Mainers (or, Mainahs). I've had people tell me I'm not from Maine/a real Mainer because I don't have the accent. So, because I don't sound like the lobsters from Finding Nemo, I'm appearantly from somewhere else (I get upstate NY the most). Um, the accent/dialect they're thinking of is coastal, or "down east" Maine. I'm originally from central Maine/Mountain Valley region. We're not going to have the same accent. That's about as logial as taking a trip to South Korea and expecting everyone to sound like they're from Busan.

Yes, we know what the internet is. We've had it for a lot longer than you think. The same goes for indoor plumbing and electricity (no joke, people think we're really that behind the times). We don't all live in light houses, use outhouses and ride moose. That's another thing. For 's sake people! Moose ARE NOT CUTE! They can be insanely aggressive and have been know to attack vehicles.

So, here's another big spoiler: Stephen King is not the only successful writer to come from Maine. If you want to piss off a writer from Maine, compairing us to him is the best way to go (this includes me, and yes, I've run into other natives guilty of this). Fun fact, just because a writer is from Maine, it doesn't mean: A: we're like him, B: we owe our creative lives to his existance (as for Maine writers, my work as been more influence by Lynn Flewelling than him), and C: No, won't don't need his approval. Seriously, I've had people tell me countless times I "need" to send him my writing. Not doing that!

End of rant. Oh, I found this article (the inspiration of said rant), please check it out ^_^ How To Piss Off Someone From Maine

Thank you for enduring my rant!

Bebop Out!
