where is everyone going?

It seems like the community on here has slowed down a bit in the past half year or so. Last year (and for as long as I can remember) if you checked the "members online" it was always 4,000-10,000 depending on the time of day. But now its at like 2,000-4,000? Are people over kpop fanfics or are people just going to a different site? or has some metric within AFF's system changed so now people still use the site but are more incognito or something? idk.

I'm not super active on here as much bc yeah I have outgrown reading fanfics quite a bit and don't really write that much due to focusing on other things in my life. So if you all don't use AFF as much or know why other people are seeming to leave and where they are migrating to, please let me know.

Cause you would think with kpop growning in popularity, a site like this would boom in popularity too. But instead its slowing down...

this is my first time logging in on aff in about 5 months... and i used to go on this site like every day when i first joined about 4 years ago. for me, i've just grown up, and reading fanfics/being active in this community has become less of a priority. it's more of an afterthought now. it's sad to think about, but i think that a lot of the others in this community are growing up as well.

cheers. xx

I feel the same way . One of my favourite authors just disappeared and deactivated her account. I don’t really loved her stories and I’ll never have the chance to read them again :(

Hi! it's the first time I comment on any of your blogposts. Yes, I think around 1-2 years back the number of users decreased significantly. I don't know about you, but tumblr is blocked in my country and I don't really like the experience on other platforms so I stick around. But yes, I can definitely feel the decline here

That's exactly what I was wondering as well. Not only for the last few months, but rather for the past few years I've noticed that less and less people were using this website. I remember back in 2011 i believe it was, when I started using the website there were tons and tons of writers and readers. Like literally I would log in everyday and each day there would be two new pages of fics (specifically talking about rated r fics, because mostly that's what i used to read) for each group that i was interested in. And now for the past few years (3-4) i've noticed that there has been less and less fics posted to the pont where there would be like new 10 fics for a group per month. At first i thought that may be the algorithm has been changed and somehow it doesn't show all there is, but after reading your post it really makes sense now.. I think a lot of writers now post mainly in tumblr. I haven't really used any other websites to read fics besides aff and tumblr, but i've noticed that in tumblr the number of fanfics has increased a lot in comparison to like 3-4-5 years ago. Personally I really like aff a lot and find it very comfortable to write/read, but like i said i haven't really tried any other websites. I'm not very active here myself since i don't really have the time to read a lot lately, let alone write but i always come back here eventually, so I'm really sad to see this website slowing down..

Me, personally, I'm going to read kpop fanfics on AO3 as it is easier to read and navigate there, plus the quality of the overall stories is higher than here.

nowadays , I don't always have time to connect to the internet. and sometime I purposely disconnected it. ao3 was easier to read and save it offline. and I hadn't find any good story that I can connect in aff anymore. it had put off my interest on reading any hetero story. so yeah.

U know...just base on my observation..many readers doesnt like to continue reading because some author doesnt finish their story and then they would create another one..u know...trust issue...(insert hand gesture...)lol...

Maybe people are just busy and don't have as much time.

I'm sure in the future there will be more people on here writing and reading
Give it time

I spend a lot more time on Ao3 now than on here, I don't even remember why I switched over! But I only really check here from time to time...

I have also noticed this, and have been wondering the same.

I read most of my fics on ao3 now because I like the interface better and I think it’s easier to navigate

I was thinking about the same thing tbh...Almost no nowadays is busy or is just deactivating their AFF accounts its really sad ...I had a lot of good memories here but wishing everyone the best ❤

Tbh I've been busy with school, reconsidering my future *cringe*, and honestly just moping around in my own sadness. It's what school does to you really. I used to be able to write every week in high school and now I barely have 4 hours of sleep a day, and especially during this time because of finals. The last time I updated stuff, I didn't get any comments whatsoever so I feel you on that

I think that a lot of us who were here in the earlier years of this site have just...grown up a lot. I know I used to write and read quite a bit but after everything with college and Jonghyun...it's just not a source of happiness for me anymore. Also ao3 has risen in popularity quite a bit, so that may account for some of the drop-off. Mostly though, I think it's just growing up and moving on.
