King 2 Hearts, The King of South Korea and A Special Agent of North Korea
This Saturday is an important day for Korean people for North Korea's President decides to match the North’s timezone with South Korean’s. Although this decision is only between both Presidents and not stated with the UN, but the world hopes this is a start for North and South to someday becomes one country. Long before this historical event happens, there was a Korean drama with the storyline is about the North and South Korean.
King 2 Hearts, with Ha Ji Won and Lee Seung Gi as the main leads, is a 2012 drama and tells a story about alternate reality where South Korea has constitutional monarchy (more or less like Princess Hours). The difference with Princess Hours is King 2 Hearts shows a love story between The King of South Korea, Lee Jae Ha, and a special agent from North Korea, Kim Hang Ah.
If you like military drama a bit like DOTS, King 2 Hearts shows another side of military life. It’s also has political plot (imo, heavier than DOTS) and of course, drama and romance. Unlike DOTS where the two main leads already attracted to each other since the first episode, it’s quite a journey in King 2 Hearts. There are times when you feel like you want to shake Lee Jae Ha to his senses, there are also times when you just want to hug Kim Hang Ah, a lot of times when you don’t realize you just cry along with the scenes, and times when you amaze with Jae Ha who turns from a cocky prince to a bold king. The top all that, of course, the romance. I always love the scene when Jae Ha crosses the border between two countries at DMZ to see Hang Ah. Since this is a fiction, this drama doesn’t show the dark reality about North Korea. In fact, Kim Hang Ah can be cheerful with her general and hang out with her friends.
A lot of morals you can learn from this drama, moreover from the king and the special agent (later his queen) that love knows no bound, even it can across the borderline between two countries. And don’t forget your tissue if you decide to watch it.
