King 2 Hearts, The King of South Korea and A Special Agent of North Korea

This Saturday is an important day for Korean people for North Korea's President decides to match the North’s timezone with South Korean’s. Although this decision is only between both Presidents and not stated with the UN, but the world hopes this is a start for North and South to someday becomes one country. Long before this historical event happens, there was a Korean drama with the storyline is about the North and South Korean.

King 2 Hearts, with Ha Ji Won and Lee Seung Gi as the main leads, is a 2012 drama and tells a story about alternate reality where South Korea has constitutional monarchy (more or less like Princess Hours). The difference with Princess Hours is King 2 Hearts shows a love story between The King of South Korea, Lee Jae Ha, and a special agent from North Korea, Kim Hang Ah.

If you like military drama a bit like DOTS, King 2 Hearts shows another side of military life. It’s also has political plot (imo, heavier than DOTS) and of course, drama and romance. Unlike DOTS where the two main leads already attracted to each other since the first episode, it’s quite a journey in King 2 Hearts. There are times when you feel like you want to shake Lee Jae Ha to his senses, there are also times when you just want to hug Kim Hang Ah, a lot of times when you don’t realize you just cry along with the scenes, and times when you amaze with Jae Ha who turns from a cocky prince to a bold king. The top all that, of course, the romance. I always love the scene when Jae Ha crosses the border between two countries at DMZ to see Hang Ah. Since this is a fiction, this drama doesn’t show the dark reality about North Korea. In fact, Kim Hang Ah can be cheerful with her general and hang out with her friends.

A lot of morals you can learn from this drama, moreover from the king and the special agent (later his queen) that love knows no bound, even it can across the borderline between two countries. And don’t forget your tissue if you decide to watch it.

Oh...very interesting drama.
I've seen Hwayugi because my friend always tells me about it and I must say Lee Seung Gi has amazing acting talent. Later, I read in some news outlets that his character in Hwayugi is almost like himself in real life, so this drama can be interesting. I mean, to potray a character which is different in the beginning and later on has to mature alongside the storyline is not easy. Reading latlat's comments, I think I need to prepare some tissues :D :D

Thanks, dear author...for this post and for your update, and happy fasting :)

Thankfully, I finished this before the fasting month. If it's not, I don't think I can do my fasting with the roller coaster emotions...lol.

Just like you, dear author, this drama has become my fave too. The story flows naturally and the character developments for Jae Ha and Hang Ah are daebak. I rarely see things like that in K-drama, usually we can see how the characters are from the first episode, but this one is really mind blowing. Who would guess Jae Ha could turn into a very bold king when in the beginning of the episodes he's just so annoying haha...Lee Seung Gi is really amazing. I've watched several episodes of Hwayugi and I must agree even his comeback drama can't compare to this one.

The ending is also great and fit to the storyline. They both deserve happiness although along the journey they will face another war threat situation, but like Hang Ah said, they can't just give up. Love those two <3 <3

Thank you for recommending this drama, authornim. I may rewatch it, so many good scenes :)

Update 060518:
Just finished the 9th episode...omg...now I understand what you mean by shaking Jae Ha to his senses...aigoo, I really want to slap him for treating Hang Ah like that and Hang Ah is really strong, I admire her. I hope there's a progress with their relationship.

p.s: I think I need more tissue... lol.

Omo...I think I've watched this drama, but didn't pay enough attention to it. Just like latlat, the third picture makes me itching to watch it fully.
I agree about the scenes which can make us cry, there are a lot of them....and I mean, a lot! Preparing a box of tissue now....

As someone who knows not much about K-drama, this info is really helpful for me, authornim, and I'm itching to watch it especially, because of the third picture...lol. I think I rarely see a scene like that in a drama (is he proposing?) and I also think I need to prepare my heart and a lot of tissues. Gonna watch this on the weekend.
Thank you, dear author :)
