“Yoongi, I love you, please give me— give us a second chance.” Y/N begged in a pleading voice.

The boy was unfazed, only with his cold back turned to her. “I’m sorry Y/N, I.. no longer have feelings for you.” Yoongi reasoned out in a soft voice.

Y/n stepped forward with arm widely spread out, right in front of the man she loved. “Why? Tell me why! I’m not good enough? Tell me and I’ll change for you Yoongi.” Y/n said in between hot tears and found herself reaching out for Yoongi’s arms.

To her sadness, Yoongi removed her hands from his arms and simply said. “I’m sorry Y/n.” before walking away.

Yoongi walked a longer route back home that night. He wanted to spend some time alone and enjoyed the serenity of the calm night. The air was chilly, but the encounter earlier made him forget about the weather. Yoongi looked up to the sky to see that it was a full moon night and sighed. He spent the next few minutes gazing the empty sky and thought back about how he and Y/n met. It was exactly here, where y/n clumsily bumped into him and sprained her ankle, thus making it necessary for Yoongi to piggy back her home. Yoongi still remembered how she smelled sweeter than lavender flowers, and how her smile lit up the night but all of that was gone now. Yoongi simply smiled to himself and continued the journey back home.

“I’m back.” Yoongi announced as he locked the main door.

“Dude, where have you been? I called you but you didn’t pick up.” Hoseok, his housemate chided. Yoongi placed his bag on the floor and slumped down on the sofa next to Hoseok wearily.

“I met up with Y/n.” Yoongi spoke.

“What? Did you tell her?” Hoseok asked.

“I broke up with her.” Yoongi continued.

“WHAT?” Hoseok exclaimed and stood up. “You did what?!”

“You heard me Hoseok, I broke up with her.” Yoongi repeated again.

“Look Yoongi, don’t be so silly! Tell her about your condition, and she’ll under—“ Hoseok explained but got cut off.

“And then what? Tie her down forever?” Yoongi raised his voice.

Hoseok remained silent and so did Yoongi. He knew that despite his angry tone, his friend was actually devastated and just as heartbroken as Y/n would be.

“Yoongi.. It’s not your fault you can’t remember.” Hoseok comforted.

“Sooner or later, I’ll forget our memories, our conversation, how she looks like. I’ll even forget her. I’ll hurt her, but I won’t even remember it.” Yoongi spoke in a lower voice before burying his sullen face in the corner of his palms.

Hoseok moved closer towards Yoongi and wrapped an arm around his shoulder, as if to pacify him.

“It’s no use Hoseok, there’s no treatment for Alzhiemer disease.” Yoongi finally broke down and revealed his pent-up tears.

After Yoongi had finally let out his emotions that night, he went to bed early. Hoseok too, went back to his room and threw himself on the bed. He was just as exhausted as Yoongi was, and seeing his friend whom rarely expressed himself broke down in tears made his heart wrenched with sorrow. Hoseok tilted his body to the right, and locked sight on a locket that hung on the handle of his closet. He sat upright and reached out for the rusty heart locket. A sense of warmth washed over him as his skin made contact with the locket. He clicked it open and a photo of Yoongi, Y/n and himself showed. The picture of them was basked in joy as he saw Yoongi’s and Y/n similar gummy smiles. Hoseok let out a grin as he brushed a finger against the small photo.

“You two really suit each other. I should’ve known earlier.” He smiled to himself as he continued gazing at his best friend in the photo next to the girl he had also harboured feelings for for years.

“It’s a pity that Yoongi was the one who became sick. Maybe if I was the one, both of you could be happy together now.” Hoseok muttered to himself.

He went back to lying on his bed and rested an arm over his eyes with the locket still tight in his grasp.

The next day, Hoseok woke up early and stood in front of Y/n porch.

“Hoseok…? What are you doing here?” Y/n opened the door and rubbed her eyes tiredly as she met with Hoseok at the front of her porch. Hoseok could only laugh at the girl who was still in her pyjamas with her hair sticking out.

“Yah, won’t you let me in?” Hoseok playfully teased although he was already making his way inside.

“So, what brings you here so early.” Y/n finally asked as she took a seat opposite Hoseok.

Hoseok became serious at once and took a while trying to regain his composure. The grin plastered on his face was no longer there as he took a deep breath.

“I want to talk about Yoongi.”

Instantly, Y/n’s face began to change with discomfort as she broke off their eye contact. “I don’t wish to talk about hi—“ y/n said as she got ready to leave from the scene.

“He’s sick.” Hoseok finally revealed in a firm tone.

Y/n stood rooted as she tried to register Hoseok’s words. “What…?” She felt her world crumbling and tried not to show it to her friend of over 8 years but Hoseok could tell.

“He’s sick. With Alzhiemer disease.” Hoseok continued.

“But how…? Why…” Y/n asked particularly to nobody as she tried to stay strong.

“It’s hereditary.” Hoseok answered. “Go.”

Y/n blinked in surprise. “Huh?”

“Go to him. Get to him before it’s too late.” Hoseok urged.

Y/n looked to Hoseok as if she was still unsure.

“Go, Y/n. Continue being by his side and tell him it’s okay. He’s always loved you.” Hoseok smiled.

Y/n nodded thankfully and grabbed her trench coat along the way before she left her house, leaving Hoseok alone.

Hoseok gazed the figure lovingly as she slowly vanished from sight. “He’s always loved you…”

Yoongi was awoken by the constant ringing of doorbell. He groaned as he touched his throbbing head. He hated being annoyed in the morning and the ringing of doorbell didn’t seem like it would give up anytime soon. Yoongi grumbled as he stepped on the wooden floor and away from his bed. He lazily dragged his feet towards the door ruffled a hand in his morning bed hair. His eyes were stil half closed as he turned the door knob.

“Who the—“ his speech was cut short as his view was met by the girl who never failed to make his heart race.

Yoongi widened his eyes in shock as he tried to form words he couldn’t say. “Y/n what are you doing here?”

Y/n didn’t answer and brought her gaze to the floor. A few seconds later, y/n began to sniffle which eventually grew into loud sobbing.

Yoongi became panic-striken. “Y/n? What’s wrong? Why are you crying?” He bent down slightly to match his eye level with y/n downcasted face but was met by a series of light punches targeted at his chest. Yoongi was caught by surprise.

“Bad, bad Yoongi!” Y/n continued to sob while pounding his sturdy chest timidly. “Why didn’t you tell me! Why Yoongi!” Y/n cried incoherently.

‘What are you saying? What ar—“ It suddenly dawned upon Yoongi of the truth that he very much wanted to avoid. “Y/n, listen to m—“

“NO! You listen to me! Who gave you permission to decide my feelings?!” Y/n snapped and finally she embraced the man in front of her, feeling home to the arms that she missed so much.

Yoongi stayed silent. The truth he had kept hidden for months had finally come to light and he could only sigh. Still uncertain, he slowly brought a hand to her back and patted her gently while cooing.

“Hush… I’m sorry..” Yoongi whispered inaudibly.

“Why! Why must it happen to you!” Y/n continued to cry in Yoongi’s chest but the boy simply kept his silence.

“Here.” Yoongi offered a hot tea to calm the girl who had been crying in the cold at 7am in the morning. “This should calm you down.

“Thanks.” y/n replied and took a sip of the hot tea.

“Feeling better?” Yoongi asked, voice full of concern.

“Yeah.” Y/n smiled.

Again, silence took over them. Yoongi began to shift his eye uncomfortably around the house but it was not long before the silence was broken.

“How long?” Y/n probed.

“4 months. I got to know when I went to the doctor for a check-up.” Yoongi answered.

Y/n nodded in understanding and once again, both parties went quiet.

“I still want to be with you.” Y/n spoke quietly.

Yoongi eyed the girl in front of him. “No, you can’t.” He stated firmly.

“Why not?” Y/n defended.

“We’re still so young, you shouldn’t be stuck with someone like m—”

“Someone like who? You? The person I’ve been together with for 3 years? Is our relationship that little worth to you?” Y/n angrily fought back.

Yoongi watched how the girl’s voice began to tremble and stopped trying to reason out, knowing it’ll aggravate the whole situation. It was exactly the stubbornness she exuded that made him attracted to her.

“You—“ he abruptly stopped when he felt a sharp pain knocking the right side of his head. Yoongi clutched the painful area as he let out a groan. He fumbled while trying to stand up and y/n immediately rushed to his side.

“Yoongi! Are you okay?” Y/n asked worriedly.

“Uh.. I’m fine, I’m just going to get my medicine upstairs.” He excused himself and made his way up to the second floor.

Still clutching his head, Yoongi turned left and right. “Where’s my room?” He tried to remember. He took a turn to the left and entered the bedroom.

“Ahh where’s the medicine?” Yoongi fumbled around the foreign room trying to get ahold of the bottled pills but couldn’t find any.

“Ahh.. this is Hoseok’s room,” he finally lly realised as the pain subsided, allowing him to recall the familiar belongings that weren’t his.

Yoongi was about to exit the room when he knocked over a pile of books on Hoseok’s study table. He bent forward to pick up the fallen books when an envelope slipped out between one of the pages. Yoongi picked the envelop and was surprised to see the name written on the front of it.

“To Y/n?” He read out and unknowingly took out the letter hidden inside.

“I know this sounds stupid. But here I am finally writing a confession letter to you after 6 years we’ve known each other. Y/n, although we grew up together, I never once thought of you as my sister. I’ve always admred the way you smiled, laugh, and I get so happy when you talk to me, even for the littlest things.

When we were 10 years old, I still remembered how your mom visited us when we just became neighbours. You hid behind your mom because you were shy and it made me want to get to know you.

When we were 11, we went to the playground together and the grin you showed me when you were playing with the swing made me want to spend time with you again.

When we were 12, your dad scolded you because of your poor grades and seeing you cry made me want to help solve all your problems.

When we were 13, we became classmates and you fell asleep during Science class because it was so boring. I secretly admired your peaceful sleeping face the whole class time. You looked so cute, it made me want to never leave your side.

When we were 14, we became friends with that new transfer kid and you stood up for him when he was bullied. Your courageous act made me assured that I would always want to look up to you.

When we were 15, your mother passed away and you sobbed the entire night. Me and Yoongi were there for you, but our presence could not make up your grief.  Seeing how vulnerable you looked, it made me realized that I never want you to feel hurt again and vowed to protect you forever.

I know this sounds like a stupid high school love note, but these are my real feelings towards you. I love you and I want you to know that. Happy birthday, Y/n.

Sincerely,

Hoseok, 12 Feb 2011”

Yoongi felt his heart beating rapidly as he finished reading the long-written note kept by his bestfriend all these years. It was then he realized the date on this letter was exactly the time when he took Y/n out for a date and broke the happy news to his bestfriend without suspecting a thing. It was then he realized, Hoseok’s letter never had the chance to reach y/n in the end.

“I should’ve realized…” Yoongi trailed off as he crumpled the piece of paper in his hand.

Yoongi went back to the living room after he grabbed the bottle of pills from his room. As he walked down the flight of stairs, y/n rushed over with a flustered look evident on her face.

“Yoongi, are you okay?” she asked.

Yoongi smiled and nooded. “Yeah, I am. It’s nothing serious.” He reassured the girl while her hair. He briefly made contact with her eyes, but looked away almost too quickly.

“What’s wrong?” Y/n inquired as she took a step closer.

“No— stop.” Yoongi uttered as he took a step back, Y/n was taken aback by his actions, but still stopped in her track according to his bidding.

“I’m sorry.. I’m feeling a little unwell. Could you leave for today?” Yoongi said as he tried to put on his best smile.

“Yeah… Alright. Take care Yoongi.” Y/n said but she made no effort to move. Instead she looked at Yoongi for a while and Yoongi did the same. It was then she placed her hands on his shoulders and lightly tip-toed to give Yoongi a peck on the cheek before hurriedly saying ‘bye’ and left.

On her way out, she met with Hoseok who was returning home and greeted him with a silent thank you. Hoseok waved to the girl and inserted the keys to the house door.

“I’m homed.” He announced but wasn’t answered. “Yoongi?” He called out several times only to find the latter sitting on the dining table.

“Yah, Yoongi. You alright?” He gave a nudge to Yoongi’s arm and the latter became startled.

“Ah, you’re back? Sorry I didn’t notice.” He apologized.

Hoseok simply shrugged it off. “Nah, that’s fine. You should go catch some sleep. You look pale.” Hoseok adviced before making a turn for his room.

“Hoseok.” Yoongi called out in a low tone.

“What—“ Hoseok didn’t manage to complete his sentence because he received a blow to his face when he turned around, causing him to fall with a thud.

Hoseok gruntled and brought his fingers to touch the corner of his lips. He could taste coppery liquid in his mouth as he wiped off the blood.

“Yoongi what the actual ? Hoseok cursed.

Yoongi made no effort to answer, leaving Hoseok fuming mad with his sudden outburst and retaliating with a punch to his face.

“Punch me Hoseok! Punch me!” Yoongi shouted and grabbed the collars of Hoseok’s jacket. Hoseok tried to brush his arms off but to no avail.

“You won’t? Fine then!” Yoongi spat out before striking with another punch towards his friend.

“Stop! Yoongi! Why the are you doing this?!” Hoseok voiced out with his friend glaring down his throat.

“Do you know how stupid you’ve made me feel?!” Yoongi shouted, his voice almost breaking.

Hoseok grew more absurd. “I don’t understand wha—“

“Why didn’t you tell me you liked y/n too!” Yoongi finally snapped.

Hoseok’s grip on Yoongi’s wrists weakened and Yoongi slowly let go of his collar too. “Why… After all this while, all that I’ve been telling you about our dates, conversations, fights… And still I had no idea you were in love with her too.” Yoongi spoke, now a distance apart from his friend.

Hoseok looked over to his friend sitting by the other end. “I loved her.” Hoseok stated deadpanned. “I don’t love her anymore now.”

Yoongi sniggered. “Don’t with me Hoseok.”

“It’s the truth. After you guys got together, I—“ Hoseok hesistated “—moved on.” He smiled.

No one spoke for the next few minutes but both of them appreciated the tranquility. They wanted to fix their broken hearts, but were not sure of what they should do.

Yoongi was doubtful but his friend walked over and gave his shoulder a reassuring squeeze.

“Hey bro, your punches hurt you know. And I didn’t even do anything wrong.” Hoseok jokingly hunched over in pain and Yoongi playfully nudged him.

“But—“ Hoseok continued. “I’ll let you off since we’re friends.” He gave a thumbs up and laughed. Yoongi couldn’t help but laugh as well.

Yoongi smiled. “I’m… sorry.” He apologized.

Hoseok heaved a sigh and beamed. “It’s okay man!” Hoseok laughed it off, trying to lighten the situation. “You know,” Hoseok patted his aching shoulders, “I thought you were mad over the fact that I told y/n about your condition.”

Yoongi looked up and shook his head. “Sooner or later, she’ll come to learn of it too. I should be thanking you instead. I think she’s accepted it as well.” He smiled.

Hoseok felt his heart tensed up and managed to force the words out. “A-ah, is it? Well, I’m happy for both of you!” He slapped the moody boy’s arm. “Hey, I’ll be in my room.” Hoseok stretched and gave a loud yawn. “I woke up super early for you.” He winked. “Well then, I’ll be in my room!” With that, he raced up to his room, leaving a flabbergasted Yoongi laughing in disbelief.

Once he settled in his room, the cheery smile that Hoseok painted disappeared and he slumped down on the floor. He took out the locket from his jeans and viewed the photo inside it, holding back the tears.

“Maybe I should just forget you, y/n…”

The sun rise giving warmth to the cold plants. Birds fly high chirping as if indicating that morning has set in. Y/n woke up as the sunlight from the window shone on her face. She yawned and reached out for her ringing alarm clock next to her bed. 9.30am. She was in good time. Y/n got up from the bed and headed to the bathroom to wash up. She was supposed to go to the library that day to collect some notes for research. After pulling out her favourite pair of jeans along with a hoodie, y/n headed to the living room where her Mum greeted her.

“Good morning sweetheart,” her mother acknowledged as y/n took a seat at the table while stuffing a jam toast in .

“Murning Mom.” y/n chirped inaudibly as she continued munching on another toast.

“I’m heading to the library today.” y/n mentioned.

“That’s good. But before you leave, I made you your favourite prawn pasta. Wait a sec,” her mother instructed as she headed back to the kitchen to take the pot of piping hot pasta. Y/n grinned at the mention of her prawn pasta. It’s always been her favourite meal and she would always finish it clean. As her mother laid down the pot on the table, y/n could smell the aroma of the food. Strangely, it didn’t smell as nice as always.

“Mom, is this the same prawn pasta?” y/n inquired.

“Of course it is dear, what else?” Her mom smiled and scooped a generous lump on the plate before y/n but the scent grew increasingly pungent that y/n felt sick in the stomach.

“I’m… heading to the toilet for a while.” y/n said before running to the toilet. She threw up at the basin and felt extremely dizzy. She touched her forehead and felt that it was slightly feverish.

“Dear, you okay there?” Her mom probed from outside. Y/n went out from the toilet and her mother examined y/n’s pale face.

“Oh my, are you sick?” she asked.

“I don’t know… I’m feeling giddy.” y/n spoke as she held onto her head.

“Go to the doctor today before you get to the library. It’s better to get it checked first to find out what’s wrong okay?” her mother spoke.

Y/n simply nodded and grabbed her bag before leaving the house.

Y/n waited patiently outside the reception for her results. “Y/n-ssi?” The nurse at the counter called. “You may go in now.” The nurse signaled and y/n bowed as she knocked on the doctor’s door.

“Come in.” The doctor said.

Y/n entered the white room and took her place in front of the doctor. She anxiously waited for the doctor to say something but he kept on flipping the pile of papers before him.

“Y/n-ssi.. how long have you not had your period?” The doctor suddenly asked.

Y/n was surprised at the sudden question but she still gave a reply. “I think… more than 1 month?”

The doctor asked again. “Do you have a boyfriend?”

Y/n was starting to feel uncomfortable with the series of uncommon question. “Umm.. yes. Why?”

He dropped his pen and fixed his glasses before shining a grin. “Congratulations y/n. You are 2 months’ pregnant.” The doctor congratulated.

Y/n felt as though her surroundings start to quicken and felt her heart accelerating at top speed. She couldn’t contain her happiness and it showed in the beam she flashed. Her heart was pounding with utmost excitement and she was imagining the different scenarios after she shared with Yoongi this piece of joyous news. “Really doctor?” She asked again, just to be sure.

“Yes, yes you are. What you experienced just now was simply morning sickness, something expectant mothers, especially new ones face commonly.” The doctor explained. Congratulations again!”

Y/n could not believe her ears and sprang up from her seat. She was close to spilling tears of joy but she fought back. She headed out of the clinic and took out her phone, ready to dial Yoongi’s number when she stopped.

“No, wait, it’ll be better if I told him personally.” She thought to herself and made her way to his house.

She rang the doorbell a few times before the door flung open. “Hoseok? Is Yoongi homed?”

“Yeah, he is. Come in,” Hoseok ushered and called out for Yoongi to head down.

“I’ll prepare you a cup of juice.” Hoseok offered with a smile and took his leave.

Y/n then heard someone making his way down as the floor creaked with every step he took. “Hoseok? What is it why did you call for m—“ He paused when he saw y/n standing in their living room. Without delaying, y/n ran forward and hugged Yoongi. “Yoongi! Yoongi! I have something to tell you!” y/n excitedly exclaimed but there was no reaction from the boy. Sensing something was wrong, she let go and turned to face him, but he showed a puzzled look.

“I’m sorry… But who are you?”
