I don't like your idol

Ever said, "I don't like your idol' to someone and watch them turn various shades of rage?

Why do people agonize about this?

Saying you don't like someone doesn't automatically translate into hate or death wishes or some other malevolent desire. Saying you don't like someone might simply mean, 'yeah, A exists, but isn't my type of idol.'

Personally, I don't like a bunch of idols. I don't hate them. I'm indifferent. If I ever got on a bus with one of these idols, I wouldn't bother with him/her. He/she would just be another person on the bus.

But, people get so offended when you tell them you don't like their idol. It may be less hurtful to strike them across the cheek than give a low blow to their beloved. ;)

What if you said, "I'm indifferent to your idol?"

Would it be any different?

I think even if you said “i’m indifferent about your idol” they would still be pissed. The one i can think of is “I respect them, but they’re not my type.”. I’ve said this a few times to idol (that i dislike) fans and they don’t get angry or annoyed.

I agree, people are free to say what they like, they should also be free to say what they dislike.
