Dear Readers, Please Hear Me Out
Hello my sweet readers!
How are you feeling today? I hope you’re feeling great about today.
I have a few words to say that I actually feel like I need to tell you right away, I thought about telling you this from long time ago but feel like procrastinating it. But then I found chariseuma blog talking about this matter that I have been having ever since I started writing in asianfanfics.
I have been in Asianfanfics since 2013, I first joined the AFF under the username Beetle122. I started my first few weeks just by reading tons of stories. I remember my first favorites stories when I first joined in was Taemin-Sulli fics, I forgot the author of the story because then she deleted the stories and even her account. A few weeks having experience to read some of great stories from great authors, I decided to be one as well. I then started to write stories, starting from oneshots to a series stories. Though, I got my account deleted from the website, i guess it's because the picture i got for my story is too vulgar(my bad). After some time, i decided to come back to writing again, and join aff under the name RealBeetle122(now changed again to ratedbeetle)
My stories were pretty much related to my main muse, Jung Eunji from APINK. And that’s what keeping me to write stories with her as the main cast. Though, now I started to write with different cast, Hayoung, and even now I am brave enough to write with TWICE members. But I am here not talking about the casts that I have, it’s not the main idea about this rant.
I am here to talk about the appreciation for the hard work of an author, which is in this blog- me. I have been an author for almost five years now, yet I still have to learn about how to write better for the sake of my readers’ satisfaction. I am happy when my readers are feeling happy.
BUT
How can I know my readers are happy or feeling anything about my stories’ update if THEY NEVER TELL ME HOW DO THEY FEEL OR THINK ABOUT THE UPDATE?
Let me break it down to you, I noticed some of my readers are very----impolite, ill-mannered, and probably disrespectful, because they give me meaningless comments after reading an update then pressured me to update quickly for another chapter.
[Meaningless comments are like “Continue pls!” “UPDATE MORE!” “This update is too short” “Better update faster”]
Okay, I get it you want to know more, you want longer update, you want another chapter coming to you faster. But know this, when I read this I feel less appreciated- even unappreciated.
To all of my sweet readers, know several funfacts about being an author:
#1 I love writing as much as you love reading, but IDEAS DO NOT COME IN SECONDS JUST WHEN YOU WANT IT
#2 Writing takes more than just words. It needs lots of efforts, either proper time to write, right mood to write, right situation to write, and IDEAS to write.
#3 I actually made research whenever I feel like writing, I browse here and there, reading stuffs so that my stories won’t come out so ugly and simple
#4 I have life too outside the writing routines.
From my experience in writing, I would like to say that I got bunch of subscribers from one story, hundreds of them. But only a few of them would bother to leave sincere and thoughtful comments, and of course only a few that would click the upvote button.
Understand this, writing a story without getting any feedback or comments are just like telling stories to the wall. Will you feel happy if you tell your friend/parents about your daily struggles and got ‘meh’ feedback or even nothing, as if your stories didn’t matter enough.
What I really want is for you to tell me what makes you enjoy my stories or why you don’t enjoy my stories. And upvote, why is it so hard for you to give an upvote if you really like the stories?
Get the math:
A Secret to Keep – 425 subscribers – 8 chapters – 5300 views – 66 comments – 9 votes
66comments:8chapters=8comments per chapter, that means only 1/53 that actually have the heart to leave a comment every an update. WOW, 1/53. I wonder what the 52 others do.
And, only 1/47 that actually have the heart to give an upvote.
I get it, some of you might can’t say what you’re thinking into words because English is not your native language. Know this, English is not my native language as well. But from reading lots of English works, I begin to learn how to. Hope you can too, so that I can figure out your thoughts about my works. OR if you really can’t tell but really love the story, there is a choice, UPVOTE.
It won’t burden you so much to actually upvote the story, even it encourages the writers to write more and feel happy about the stories they wrote. Think about it this way, you have to pay certain amount of money to get your favorite book- but in AFF you get it for FREE, you don’t have to pay even a dollar. Now, is an UPVOTE and COMMENT in every update is bothering you that much?
Here, I also wanna thank my loyal readers(can i call you as friends?) that always have the time to check out my updates, leaving comments and give my stories enough appreciation by giving upvotes. Shout out to:

These are the names that have been with me throughout my writing histories in AFF as RealBeetle122( is now changed to ratedbeetle) and I love you guys for always stick with me through the ups and downs. I hope to see more names on my shoutouts, trust me people, your sincere comments and upvotes made my day, it makes me feel appreciated.
Remember this, you got the chance to read stories for free here, why not you give me some credits by leaving comments and upvote?
And know as this is important, check your profile and see your karma points, if you have been an user in AFF for more than six months but still have less than 20karma points that means you are A REAL SILENT READER. Let me tell you this, leaving a comment can get you ONE KARMA POINT. See? By giving a comment, you’re getting something in reply. Karma point is needed if you want to change username, needed to upvote a story(you have to have minimum 10 karma points), and it’s like the coins to buy things in AFF.
So now I tell you my rants and secrets about karma point, would you promise me to be a more active reader? Show the authors that you appreciate their works, it's not that hard, people, really. I hope you are going to change your habit and start giving your favorite author some appreciations they deserve.
Thank you for reading my rants about everything. I just feel less-appreciated lately, and I feel a bit relieved now after saying all this.
Shortly, I wish you have a great day!
Best greetings,
BEE
