2017 fic archive meme thingy

A question meme-thingy for my 2017 fics collection. Stolen from mel--

Total stories published:
39 (thirty nine) oh my god 39 good on you child you did it T.T
Details:
Completed = 30
Ongoing = 9

Fandoms I wrote in:
NCT = 22
Red Velvet = 5
Wannaone = 3
Miscellaneous = 9

Total Word Count:
HMMMM Approximately around 200k? Something like that?

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
TOTALLY more than I thought I would. Usually in a year I'll just write 1 long story + 3 short ones tops. Seeing that I wrote 39 stories shocked me.
39 stories. (and even then, the bulk of my writing was done at the halfway point of the year, so like, 70% of my wordcount was achieved in 6 months. Which is crazy)

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
As for fandom, NCT.
as you know, I slipped and became an NCTrash around June. And well, yeah the rest is history LOL.
And Wannaone/Produce101. #ongnielisscience

As for genre, slice of life?
I never really liked writing a straightforward slice of life story, but lately I'm finding myself really enjoying it.

What's your own favorite story of the year?
oh my god I can't do this
lmao jk it's the Coffee and the Tea Wench
I'M SORRY OTHER STORIES, I STILL LOVE YOU ALL OH SO VERY MUCH

Did you take any writing risks this year?
Uhhh can you say starting to write mature (as in ually mature (?)) topics for slash pairing a risk?
Because I just realise that I've never written a scene of two boys kissing before 2017.
And I guess my one oneshot per day stint for NCT Dream's comeback is a big enough risk to get a mention LOL

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?
Two oneshots per month WOOT

From my past year of writing what was...

My best story of this year:

OH MAN
oh man
tbh I really love what I did with Coffee and Tea Wench.
It holds a special place in my heart, forever and always.

My most popular story of this year:
We Got a Baby Boy (for a Week!)
I can't believe how much traction it gained.

The story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Liminal Space and Card Making and Ballroom Dancing
Although, I cannot talk about them being under-appreciated without bringing in the fact that the pairings that I used for this story is criminally underrated.
tbh all of my less-known stories feature very VERY obscure pairing. So I'm kind of okay with that? Honestly, reaching 20 kudos in my stories that have obscure pairings is already an occasion worth celebrating.

The most fun story to write:
panic induced bat-based bludgeoning and we got a baby boy (for a week!)
were sooooo fun to write. They felt like, when you take a dump after eating a well and balanced diet. It was so easy and obstacle free. Truly a blast.

The story with the single iest moment:
uhm well half of the fics in my "Miscellanous" category are fics...... So yeah :D
Well if I have to pick one then I'll pick the Ice Cream Parlour

The most "holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Me deciding to kill children in my Hunger Games! Applyfic.
Although I haven't write it down yet, so nobody can tell me nothing :)))

The story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Probably Last Train Home? I think that's the most emotionally heavy / most overtly angsty story that I've written this year, and it's fun exploring the "what if"s that might happen in situations presented in the story.

The hardest story to write:
card making and ballroom dancing
Oh god the hardships I had when writing this...
Not only did I have to scrap 5k worth of work because, as I said to myself, "I hate it"
I wrote this when I was in a writing slump, you know, when you feel like you can do better than this but don't know how to make yourself write better??
It was truly a giant monster of a story.
(The only reason that kept me going with writing this story is A) MarkRen B) I promised myself I'll publish a Christmas themed story C) I don't want to be defeated by a measly Harry Potter!AU)

The biggest disappointment:
Can't I say that I love all of my stories????? Man, I really do.
But maybe I'm disappointed with all of the abandoned stories lmao
("in the arms of an angels" playing at the background)
Chatshire & First Quarter Quell

The biggest surprise:
Last Train Home = Because it gave me hope that I can survive writing in AO3
add your initials to my skin = Because holy I never thought such a simple story could receive so much love

The most unintentionally telling story:
If you look into my stories close enough, if you comb through it really carefully, you can see that almost all of my stories reflects something about me LMAO.
But I guess the most personal story that I've written in 2017 is missing home.

Favorite Opening Line(s)

Huang Renjun hates coffee with a passion. He hates the taste, he hates the colour, he hates how the smell would get stuck in his nasal cavities and everything he eats afterwards would slightly have that pungent coffee tinge to it. But Renjun kindda have this thing for Lee Jeno for as long as he could remember and as the whole school knows, Jeno is the self proclaimed number one coffee in the whole world. He’d much prefer the title coffee connoisseur , but well, the sad truth is most kids in his year can’t even spell connoisseur so...

Coffee it is.

the coffee and the tea wenchgod I love this line paragraph so much

Honorable mention:

“Mark… I think I accidentally killed someone.”

panic induced bat-based bludgeoning - it's a classic

Favorite Closing Line(s):

Well then Donghyuk just gotta wait for a day or two before Mark will give him his kissy kissy.

t is for turmeric scrub - idk why but this line cracks me up everytime

tbh i'm really at writing closing lines... the closest I have on a more traditional closing line is this

Yes, the two little instigators were not able to see the fruit of their hard work. But at least someone was able to bear witness. To spread the news, maybe. The news of happiness. The news that Christmas miracles still exist and how the presence of a special someone could turn an otherwise uneventful holidays season into something slightly more magical.

card making and ballroom dancing

Favorite 5 Lines from Anywhere:

1. “Some… sometimes,” after a few futile attempts of swallowing the non-existent phlegm that was blocking his windpipe, Renjun managed to choke out a little white lie of his. How can it be sometimes, when everytime Jeno walks or talks or simply interacts with him, his mind would be filled with a really faint choir of chipmunks that chanted ‘I’m so gay, I’m so gay, I’m so gay.’

the coffee and the tea wench - aka how my mind works 18/7

2. And suddenly, Renjun found himself wishing to all the beings that exist in this universe and beyond to not let them end what hasn’t even started yet, not when he knew of the possibility that he could live in a version of his life where this sight, of Jeno scribbling nonsense on his notebook with a busy coffeeshop serving as an out-of-focus background, could be fully and exclusively his.

the coffee and the tea wench - idk why but i love this line so much

3. In the end, the tinted frames and slight gaussian blur will just make him fall in love with Seongwoo even more than before. And Daniel wasn’t sure if he could handle anymore of that.

we got a baby boy (for a week!) - this is so effin cheesy but that's fine, right???

4. ‘It won’t be a problem,’ Jisung thought. Dad told him that only a true love’s kiss will call the storks. And a true love’s kiss tastes like lemons, he said.
Jaemin’s kiss tasted like chocolate ice cream lollies.

chocolate lollies kisses - it's so adorable, when I wrote it i think I internally cried.

5. “He doesn’t even have an .” Yuta would hiss over Dongyoung’s giggles, his face red due to physical exertion and embarrassment, as per usual.
“Doesn’t stop you from looking.”

banana split - after reading that, I really need to write more Dota god help me.

Top 5 Scenes from Anywhere You Would Choose to Have Illustrated:

1. the climatic lake scene in don't open your eyes until I tell you to
2. The bus stop scene in the coffee and the tea wench or the cafe-in-the-city scene... (all the scenes)
3. the 'Taeyong peeking from the dormitory door' scene in card making and ballroom dancing
4. the killing scene in byzantium
2. the entirety of panic induced bat-based bludgeoning tbh LOL

Fic-writing goals for 2018:
as said before, two stories per month! and finishing all of my ongoing stories hah... hahahah... hahahaha
