How EXO and on crack videos helped me learning English

I was 16-years-old on my second year of high school. I could count how many words in English I knew at that time, something around twenty. I couldn't communicate with others or even listen or read some content in the idiom.

I wasn't a bad student. My grades were really good in this class, actually. What really stopped me from learning was the following issue: The teacher used to show up two times in a trimester. He got health licenses when he weren't even sick. Things work really wrong in some aspects of our public schools.

His classes were so easy when he showed up because he just wanted to get rid of the responsability that even being horrible in English in everyday life, I could hit great grades. It made me really angry over him and other students felt this way as well. We even report the situation, so he were forced to start attending his job regularly, what didn't help a lot because of his poor teaching method. A shame.

At that time, I already did like a suspicious kind of humour, being addicted to YTPBR (brazilian Youtube Poop videos). You could ask me any reference from that stuff, I knew it. Honestly, I still into it, so you can ask me now and I'll know the non recent ones. At the same time, being a fan of EXO, I knew all the brazilian misheard lyrics and parody videos. But I wanted more, I wanted to watch my favorite things mixed together. I wanted some EXO YTP.

So I gone forward it. I found a single video, watched multiple times and still wanting more of it.

Almost a year before, crackfic genre gained popularity among brazilian EXO fanfics, being writen by well known ficwriters. I even wrote one twoshot crackfic in 2014 being motivated by one of this ficwriters — thinking of it, I don't talk to her for a long time —, but recently I deleted it due some tiring stereotypes in the story which I don't want to keep.

So EXO on crack videos started being suggested for me on Youtube. I thought it may was crazy as the fanfics I was reading, so I gave it a try. I wasn't wrong about my first thought about the possible similarity, but it was a lot better. So I got obsessed.

At first I could understand only 50% of the whole video, but my will to enjoy it completly made me search every single word I couldn't get. Taking baby steps, I learned a lot every day. In some months, I already knew slangs, expressions and pronounciation. I started talking to foreigners, to read stuff and, in early days of 2016, I was watching and understanding entire lecture videos for the first time.

Today, at the age of 19, already a college student, I can even talk face to face in English although I get shy — but I get shy even speaking my native language, so — and it makes me incredibly happy when I think of this aspect of my life. I have learned a language I've been all my life thinking that was so difficult through things I love. A insignificant step for the humanity, but a huge step for a person who thinks is the dumbest and capable of nothing.

As a result, theres a video where I speak English and you can watch it here.

I'm still learning, so I wrote it to practice. You can help me pointing some mistake.

Thank you EXO, thank you so much crack video makers. ♥
