Is this plagiarism or naah?
Hello, people of asianfanfics!
Today I'm here with two stories with -very similar- choice of words. Perhaps the punctuation and a few words have been added or removed, but the lines are essentially the same in these particular parts of the stories. In my opinion, "Longing for you" plagiarized "Waking Dream." To back up my claim, I recorded a video to show you how similar they are in real time (I knew AFF would do the right thing after the report of "Longing for you," so it's no longer available to read). From what I've seen here, I also suspected that people have a hard time accepting the truth. So live footage is useful proof. Now, I didn't realize that the recorder hadn't been recording the full right part of the computer screen * facepalm* and the fic was deleted shortly after. But below are some pictures that I captured much earlier (before filming the video) to show it more clearly to people defending this behavior.

I've tried reasoning with a few people on why I consider this plagiarism. Perhaps the plots and characters of the two fics were not the same, and I give it that. However, isn't the definition of "plagiarize," according to the Merriam Webster Online Dictionary, as follow:
Plagiarize: to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own: use (another's production) without crediting the source.
*(Inform yourself more about plagiarism here. It might give you a more in-depth understanding of what plagiarism is.)
So, even if a few sentences are the same (except for a few intentional changes I think) I find that this is blatant plagiarism, not of the whole story "Waking Dream," but a few of its sentences and words have been plagiarized by "Longing for you." I think that's enough to count as plagiarism.
But people have told me that it is possible to have the same words in a fic. I know, I get it. Universal sentences like: "I love you. You make me so happy. I can't live without you. Please don't leave." can indeed be featured in a myriad of artistic works. In this particular case, however, where a character is struggling to wake up from a dream/coma, I cannot fathom how it can be possible that two writers HAD THE EXACT SAME (for the most part) STREAM OF THOUGHTS when they choose how to write that scene on their own fics. The same wording! Practically some sentences are the same! Almost the same sentence structure! From the footage in the video you can also see the chapters were written... Two years apart! ("Waking Dream" coming out first) It's uncanny! Really, what a spooky coincidence 👻 I've never encountered that before -unless it had been plagiarized of course-. But given that some people told me that is not plagiarism, maybe plagiarism has gotten a new definition in this site, and I haven't been informed. I don't know.
What I would like to know is what you guys think. Help me understand the situation. Being a writer here, I really would like to know what the majority of writers and readers feel about plagiarism and what they consider to be plagiarism. so I can get the hell out of here before someone plagiarizes me but claims that isn't the case. Therefore, please do leave your vote here in the poll at the end or enlighten me with a comment.
I also know I might get severely bullied and attacked for doing this (based on what I previously witnessed). It's okay. I'm doing this to defend my dear friend because plagiarism hurt. If my friend didn't want to bring the matter in a blog, it's their issue and reasons, let them be (I did get my friend's authorization to write this blog post, though). So, if you want to CUSS at someone because of this whole blog post do it AT ME. Be my guest. Destroy me because you think your claim is 'the whole truth and nothing but the truth.' I'm the one analyzing the whole situation and reaching a conclusion, a reasonable one, in my opinion, based on all the evidence and factual definitions of plagiarism to defend my argument, hoping other people will get it too.
That's all folks. Thanks for coming to my TED talk! Don't forget to vote in the poll below!! 🗳️
