justice

is justice — right vs. wrong — a result, or a value? prosecutors seek justice, yet each of them have their own ways of achieving it. some less proper than others, but that's by my yardstick, which could be far different from yours.

i was watching wenjoy on hello counselor, and it struck me how mature and open-minded sooyoung is for her age. she's 21, and while some may argue that's already legal and understandably adult, i'm sure we can all agree there are too many people who act and think too infantile for their age. hell, i don't think i'm as mature as i should be, the way i handle many things.

my imagination took off in a hypothetical situation with the red velvet members. if each of them were to see someone getting bullied, who would stand up for the victim?

my first thoughts: irene and joy. i mean, most of us would probably think of joy. she's outspoken, bold, sometimes sassy, and certainly she doesn't mind being different from people in opinion and manner. meanwhile, irene, because we know she has a ramrod straight backbone, and her being the leader, i can't help but have that impression of her — a silent force to reckon with, faithful with her affection but tough when she needs to be.

(not to say the other members won't, but i'm going off my first thoughts over here, and i know merely but a few facets of their complex personalities.)

the difference between irene and joy i think is — irene seems to know right and wrong in her bones; probably instilled in her from young. being extremely pretty, she's probably had to fend off suitors, and probably had some haters here and there, but deep inside, she would've known she's done nothing wrong, so the injustice is an inconvenience, and probably irks her when it happens to someone else. however, for joy, i'd guess the development was more complex, less straightforward. with lenient parents (she said so in hello counselor), she's probably had more space to explore and experiment. she's probably bullied and gossiped about a few kids, and been bullied and teased too. she seems like she knows injustice because she's been on both sides of it before, both as perpetrator and victim. in hello counselor, on the issue of discrimination of skin color, while others simply encouraged the victim to be strong, which isn't wrong, she said that courage is eroded by the harsh judgement of people. more than empathy, she expressed a deeper insight.

i guess i started this really with the intention to discuss sooyoung in the end, and she deserves this. i think the rv girls all have great personalities in their own right. some people just value certain traits more than others, and by my yardstick, park sooyoung is commendable, and i've fallen in love with her mind today.
