in cold blood : Charlie hong
inside of me
PERSONALITY TRAITS :
(+) Determined, Reliable, Cheerful, Positive, (-) Perfectionist, Careless, Insecure, Reserved
PERSONALITY : Charlie is a very determined person. She the kind of person that would stand firm on what she believes in and is not easily swayed by what others may think, once she has her head into something, she will try her best to see it through until the end. She has this uncanny ability to stay focus on the task given to her, ready and willing to make any necessary sacrifices needed to succeed. She does not take lightly to challenges, the more people try to discourage her in achieving something or belittling her skills and abilities, and the more determined she is in achieving higher than their expectations and to prove them wrong. She is trustworthy. She is someone that be counted on to do what she has been told to do and will never back down from a promise made. Once she had promised something, she will honour it, no matter how small the promise may be. If she promised someone that she would accompany them shopping, then she will. Even though it means she will be bored out of her wits and only be there as their personal bag holder, she’ll make the most out of it. It might mean more to that person than she might understand. She is also the kind of person that would never tell on any information or secrets that is shared with her. Nothing short of mindless torture or possible death can make her spill the beans. She can be a little doting. She would make it as a habit to regularly check on her friend’s wellbeing, making sure that they are okay and would gladly make them feel special and well cared for whenever she can. Like cooking their favourite food or treating them with their favourite drinks and then feeding them while they eat or would shower them with hugs and cuddles if they are feeling a bit lonely. She also will be there for her friends and is willing to help them when they are in need of help or if they ever screw up something since she doesn’t to see hurt or stressed. Nevertheless, she also knows when to drop a well-placed “I told you so” and some anti bull advice in giving her friends feedback, ensuring that they learn from their own blunders.
She is practical and is the slightly more realistic member of her group. She is quite aware of her what is happening around her and often time, thinks everything in a more logical sense; she is often dubbed as someone that literally has more common sense in day-to-day dealings. She is the person to turn to when the situation gets sticky and not to be overly emotional or panic at the first sign of conflict. She is always open to listen to her friends venting out their problems and the one they can count on when they need advice. She might not always tell them what they want to hear but she will definitely tell them what they need to hear. She also has this amazing ability to be calm at any given situation, unless it involves someone she admires, then all of her common sense will fly out the roof and suddenly she ‘ll turn into a puddle of irrationality. Despite her apparent maturity, Charlie does know how to have a good time and is totally fine in doing weird things when she feel like it. She would sometimes act a bit silly to lighten up the mood or to cheer up the people around her and just spread a healthy vibe of positivity. She is someone that is generous with her smiles and likes to believe in the best of things. She looks at the brighter side of any current situation, making the most of what it is being handed to her and believes that everything happens for a reason, there is no use in crying over spilled milk. She doesn’t really believes in judging someone by what they were or by what other people thought of them, because she would welcome them with open arms just the way they are presently.
Regardless of how happy Charlie seems to be, she is not perfect, she is only human after all. Because of her tendency of wanting to get the job done efficiently, Charlie is somewhat of a perfectionist. She won’t stop until she get it right and often berates herself of not doing good enough. She would practice or train repeatedly even if it means cutting on her resting or eating time. She is insecure of her own abilities to perform what her fans expected of her. When this happens she would let her anxiety get the best of her and question her usefulness, she would feel like she making herself look bad if she can’t show her best. When Charlie feels that everything is too much for her to handle, she would be withdrawn, her usual cheerfulness would dim and her would try to deal with her problems on her own because she doesn’t want other people to get involve. Charlie is also a careless person, not in the sense that she is clumsy or absent minded but in the context that she is careless with her body’s wellbeing. In her search for perfection in her dances, Charlie would neglect taking care of her body and health. She would ignore her body’s protest and continue on practicing until she can’t move anymore and it won’t be the first time someone found her asleep in the practice room nor would it be the last. Her carelessness is not only a danger to herself but also to the people around her because in putting herself in situations that she could get injured, she could also risk injuring her band mates as well
Charlie is naturally reserved. She has difficulty in openly admitting what she is feeling and rather than outright expressing what she feels, Charlie would often bottles everything and let it slowly eat her from the inside. She is the type of person that would readily give out advices or listens to her friend’s problems but has troubles ranting out her own problems. Now and again, it makes her overthink and causes another pointless concern. Sometimes it causes her to have disagreements with others when they tried to ask her what’s wrong and she will cover it up. She knew they mean well, however, she often finds it difficult to share her emotions. She could simply go to herfriends to talk about her emotions yet a short time later, it felt like it never truly help and they do not generally understand what she's feeling. She is great at picking a piece of her that is great to share and a piece of her that she likes to keep for herself. Charlie also doesn’t make connections with people quickly. It takes her a long time to be fully comfortable with the people around her and because of this; she does not seem to be emotionally invested in anything but her dances and music, even when she is close to someone there would be a small sense that she is holding herself back from fully expressing herself.
BACKGROUND : Charlie has a relatively normal upbringing, she learns from a young age that whining won’t get you anywhere and if you want something you go to earn it, this is the main reason for Charlie’s reserved nature and perfectionist tendencies. By the age of 5, Charlie was admitted into a Ballet class mostly because her mother had always wanted her daughter to be a successful Ballerina and Charlie grew into teen hood with hopes that she would be able to fulfil her mother’s dreams. The turning of Charlie’s life of mediocre routine is when Charlie first met a mischievous boy named Robert Lee on the first day of school of second grade. It was during their morning recess with Charlie siting alone at the school playground watching the other kids play, Robert had confidently approached her and asked to be friends. At first, Charlie didn't how to react but Robert kept on insisting that they should be friends, she didn't exactly accepted his offer but she didn't reject him either. Nevertheless, the limbo of decision was enough Robert since he kept on insisting that they're friends.
The years gone by, at the age of 13, Charlie was told that she would never join the big league of performing Ballet because of her short structure (she was around 142cm). despite the reassurance from her Father, she still has time to grow, Charlie already knew the truth of it when her fellow dancers were getting better roles because of their height and she was still given the background roles, this is when Charlie’s feelings of insecurity and self-criticism starts to emerged. Robert, being the good friend he is, tries his best to cheer Charlie up and get her back into her game. (this includes, taking her to eat junk food, no matter how she complains that it’s going to make her fat but proceed to eat 2 burgers and a plate full of fries. Karaoke, where she sings to all of her heart’s content and watched a marathon of cheesy Animes during the weekends, after finishing their homework, of course). It wasn’t until Robert drag her to meet up with his group of friends that Charlie finally starts being lively again. Robert had brought her to meet up with his Parkour jam, The Superfly Monkey Dragons. At first, Charlie was reluctant but after witnessing then ease and confidence that the traceurs move through the urban jungles of Singapore, Charlie managed to get herself hooked and love every single second of the adrenalin rush it provide. It wasn't easy for her at first, Parkour was a lot more demanding in the physical sense than Ballet and she got her fair share of scrapes, bruises and sore muscles from the miss landingsnd stamina building exercises. To add to that, she still had to managed it throught her Ballet lessons so, her mother won't be suspicious as to why she was getting clumsier during Ballet practice. In the end, it was all kind of worth it as pointed out by Robert, she is a free soul, one that needs the adrenalin pumping and just let it out. In Parkour, no matter how big or small you're, what matters was the ability to weave the obstacles with ease and confidence.
This goes on for the next two years with Charlie juggling in between of Ballet lessons and Parkour jams wasn’t easy but Charlie managed to balance the two activities together after getting used to it. Charlie’s mother starts to get suspicious after Charlie came home more bruised up than usual and with injuries that are not and couldn’t be from practicing Ballet. it was only after the neighbours starts talking about Charlie hanging around with a bunch of ‘street punks’ and running around doing dangerous stunts was when Charlie’s mother brought it up during the family dinner. Charlie argues that it doesn’t affects her studies or her Ballet lesson but her mother argues that it’s still dangerous and Charlie could get herself badly hurt. The deciding point was when her father agrees with her mother and for the fact that Charlie should stop either way because they were moving to Korea after Charlie’s father accepted a job offer there. Charlie was devastated, mostly because she had to lose the friends she made through the years and she had to leave Robert, her main pillar of support. Therefore, with a long and probably drag out goodbye, the Parkour jam went with for one last run and Robert giving her a matching star shape earring, one for her and one for him.
In Korea, despite enrolling into an international school, Charlie had time adjusting to the new culture and environment of Korea. Her grasp of the language was also so-so, relying more on her English even though, to her, half of the Korean population can’t speak it properly, much to her frustration and dismay. But to her eternal relief, Charlie met with Kang Yeon Soo, a slightly Americanised Korean girl that likes to make bad English puns. Charlie was almost in tears when she found out that there was someone that can actually understand her and that leads to both of them form an unconventional friendship with each other because of their somewhat clashing personality. Because Yeon Soo prefer talking and sometime venting out her complaints in English, Charlie is among the few that she would complained all she wants and the people around them won't know a thing about it. Yeon Soo also helped Charlie better her Korean skill because things progress faster if you have someone that could translate things on the spot
After a year of living in Korea, the growing interest of group idols began to be a sensation to the younger generation and it also spark Charlie’s interest with the choreographed dances and up beat rhythm. Charlie had thought about performing on stage again (After quitting Ballet once she came to Korea because her parents want her to adjust first) and when SM launched a nationwide audition, with the support of her friends, somewhat reluctantly her mother and ever supportive father, Charlie went to her first audition. She failed though but Charlie wasn’t going to give up because the judges loved her dancing and it was just her song selection that doesn’t sit well with her voice range and so she tries again. After getting another round of encouragement from her family and friends, Charlie came for her second audition and she came back swinging. By 2013, Charlie was officially a SM trainee

RELATIONSHIPS :
▸ Father — Hong You Qian (51) / Electrical officer/ Strict, Reliable, Rational / 8/10
From an outsider’s point of view, Charlie and her father’s relationship seems a bit distant but that is how the two of them work. It doesn’t mean they are not close or have a bad relationship though because Charlie is still her father’s little princes and he’d only have Charlie’s best interest at heart.
▸ Mother — Hong Ah Siew (47) / Housewife/ Polite, Discipline, Traditional / 5/10
Charlie and her mother don’t always get along because of their clashing opinions but they are working on it. ▸ Younger Brother — Hong Li Xiang (16) /Student / Playful, Stubborn, Mischievous / 9/10
Charlie and her brother have a very close relationship; they balanced each other out and worked really well as a team. Charlie and Li Xiang can spend hours talking to each other on the phone, trading insults and private jokes among the both of them. Most people will say that Li Xiang is rude because he is so informal with his sister but that just proves that they are close.
▸ Best Friend — Robert Lee (18) / Student / Supportive, Blunt, Can be an idiot/ 9/10
One of the few friends that Charlie still has close relation with from Singapore. Their school teacher used to call them the ‘Dynamic Duo’ because they can get themselves in all sort of trouble (usually the mastermind behind it all is Robert and Charlie just goes on with the flow) and one can’t be seen without the other. they kept in touch through Skype and Line from time to time.
▸ Friend — Kang Yeon Soo (19) / Student/ Adventurous, Bold, Friendly /7/10
She was apart of the welcoming committee when Charlie first transfers to school. She made Charlie feel welcome and help her with the inner workings of the school culture and the language barrier she has with most of the students there.
