Fabricated City
I watched this movie several months ago during the hype of Suspicious Partner because Ji Chang Wook is in it while he’s enlisting in the army at this moment. I even knew this movie from my friend who is the huge fans of the actor.
Fabricated City tells a story about hardcore gamer Kwon Yu who wastes his life away playing video games at internet cafes. But after he returns a lost phone, he is arrested and given life imprisonment for ually assaulting and murdering a minor. With the help of his online teammates, he has a chance to clear his name. As they dig into his case, they uncover a massive plot and a shadowy organization that puts innocent people to prison on behalf of powerful men in the country.
This movie shows a lot of action scenes which I guess Chang Wook specialized in it, but it doesn’t mean this movie has no cons. With the plot similar with Korean drama, Healer, which happens Chang Wook is the male lead, I don’t feel the surprise element anymore. Ji Chang Wook potrays Kwon Yu really good, even the scene with his mother really breaks my heart, but still, I don’t feel his chemistry with his co-stars, both the males and mostly female. The fact that this movie produced before Healer reduced the sentiment Fabricated City copied the drama. In the other hand, the producer’s decision to release this movie after Chang Wook’s popularity in Healer and The K2 somehow turned to be a boomerang for this movie.
I must say I’m not impressed with Fabricated City even though Ji Chang Wook is in it. I just feel he’s wasting his talent with this movie. I’d rather watch Healer than this movie. But, if you still curious on how this movie turns out, you may try to watch it. Just don’t have high expectation.
