A Matter of the Heart

That evening, Sandeul went to a cheap diner for dinner. He was surprised when he saw Jinyoung there also…with someone other than Dongwoo. He thought he had remembered his friend telling him that they were together. He also may have been drunk at the time, so Dongwoo may have just told him that he LIKED Jinyoung. Maybe Jinyoung didn’t feel the same way. Walking over to the table, he smiled at Jinyoung. “Hi. May I speak with you for a moment?”

Jinyoung looked surprised. “Um…sure. I’ll be back in a moment.” He smiled at the other man, who nodded. They shared a ‘look’ and Sandeul frowned. Once they were a good distance from the other guy, Sandeul cocked his head. “Hey, do you even REALIZE that Dongwoo likes you? Are you so blind that you don’t even see it? I thought he was your best friend. He really likes you, and you are going to screw it up.”

Jinyoung laughed bitterly. “I barely know you and you think you’re the authority on who I date…or for if Dongwoo likes me? If he really does, he should say something. You sound like you’re just jealous or something.”

Sandeul shook his head. Jinyoung had just hit it on the head, but he lied about liking Dongwoo. “I’m not jealous. I just don’t want him to get hurt, that’s all.” He spoke softly now. “Never mind. I’m sorry for butting in where I obviously am not welcome. Forget I said anything…and have fun.” He spoke the last two words sarcastically.

Healing

Sungjong looked very worried, but he avoided my eyes. "How is he?"

I shook my head, motioning to the door. I didn't want to worry Sungyeol any more than already was. Walking out into the hall, I swallowed again, feeling a sour taste in my mouth. "Soryong will be okay...physically. It's the mental part that he needs help with. That'll take longer."

Sungjong frowned, nodding. "I think that goes for all of us, but especially him. I also know that I have things to apologize for. You didn't do anything."

I felt the emotions crashing back down on me, and I tried desperately to push them down again. "Yeah, you're right. I didn't, and that's what started this entire thing, and it messed us up, too." I wanted to slap myself when I felt my lip quivering, so I bit it hard, trying to stop the wave that was still b on the surface. I tensed when Sungjong placed a hand on my arm. "Let's go outside, okay?"

I didn't argue with him as he led me outside of the hospital and over to a bench. He looked into my eyes , rubbing my hand gently. "Myungsoo, I was an idiot last night for saying those things to you. We've all hidden our emotions, and it's not good. I love you." He finally broke, a single tear running down his cheek. I tensed up as he hugged me, and I could feel all of his pain and anger melting out of him as he cried. I could still feel the tears stinging the back of my eyelids, threatening to fall. I was determined not to let them.

"It's okay. It wasn't your fault and we'll get through this together, okay?" Sungjong whispered, kissing me on the back of the neck. That single action was enough to break the dam, as I felt the waves spilling over the edge. I felt myself shaking as a sob cracked through my lips, feeling the terrible pain that I had pushed away. I latched onto his back as we cried together, releasing all of the pain, anger and guilt. I was shaking uncontrollably, and it felt like an earthquake erupting.

We held one another and cried for a while, and I finally heard myself utter the words that I had been pushing away for the last two years. "It wasn't my fault. It wasn't me."

IlLUMINated

As they drew closer to the fight, they noticed that the ones fighting the Lights had abandoned the fight. They were clearly Werewolves and they weren’t sticking around. They could hear people screaming, and Haru growled in frustration. He wanted to rip the Lights to shreds, but Seon held him back. “We need to get the people out of here to safety. Three of us should go tell them that we’re friends and here to help them. The Lights disappeared again, but they’ll be back. Ailee, Jerry and Jonghyun should go in. It’s less likely that the Lights will detect Jonghyun in the house if there are others with powers with him…Now go. We don’t know when they’ll be back.”

Jonghyun, Ailee and Jerry made their way into the house, staying on guard the entire time. Once inside, they were met by a big man with a gun. “Who the hell are you?” He was speaking roughly, but they could tell that he was nervous and afraid.

Jonghyun smiled at the man. “My name is Jonghyun, this is Ailee and Jerry. We’re here to protect you and take you to safety.”

“This is safe enough,” the man glared at him. “Why should we trust you?”

“Because the rest of our people that are with us are taking care of whatever attacked you,” Ailee told them confidently. “You’re in danger. Just stay in here and we’ll take care of all of this, okay?”

The man looked skeptical, but lowered his gun and glanced at his family. “Alright. I guess you can never use too much help. Thank you.”

Ailee smiled at him. “You’re welcome. Just stay here and we’ll take care of it.”

Jonghyun shook his head. “Sir, I appreciate your cooperation, but please don’t tell the authorities about this. They don’t need to know and we can keep this between us. Load these into your guns and shoot when needed. They’ll work better than regular bullets, okay?”

The man nodded, unloading his gun. “Thank you…Jonghyun.”

Outside, they saw a flash of light, and knew that the Lights were back. Jonghyun glanced outside. “. Alright, guys. We need to get back out and help them. I don’t give a if the Lights will take it out on me. They’re attacking now.”

Ailee smiled at the man. “Thank you for trusting us.”

“You’re welcome,” the man cocked his gun again, ready to shoot.

They hurried back outside and saw that the other four were using full powers to fight against the Lights. There were powers shooting all over the wooded area. The lights seemed to be especially afraid of Haru, since he had the power to disintegrate them in an instant, if he caught any of them. The Lights were in human form and Jonghyun felt a strange connection to them. He did as Seon had told him and stayed out of the fight as much as possible. Ailee rushed in, throwing them against the trees would freeze them. This caused the Lights to break apart, ending their lives. Karam was busy using telekinesis and earth to bury them. If they were suffocated, they would die.

In the midst of the fight, JJ saw light blasting toward him. He combat it with fire, but he was losing the battle. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a light blasting the attacker head on. The attackers disintegrated before their eyes, and the other Lights disappeared, giving up.

JJ was visibly shaken, but turned to Jonghyun. “Thank you. You just saved my life.”

Jonghyun shook his head, obviously not taking credit for it. “You’ve saved mine millions of times. It’s payback.”

Seon turned to the cabin when he heard the door open. “I think I’ve seen enough.” The man with the gun was now standing on his porch. “I want you to leave now. That little display of power isn’t good for my kids to see. If you leave now, I won’t call the cops.”

Seon swore under his breath, glaring at the man. “We just saved your family’s lives and this is the thanks we get?”

The man nodded. “Thank you, but we could have done that ourselves without your powers. Go now, before my kids start talking about all the powers they saw. If I’m lucky, they won’t remember this tomorrow.”

Seon motioned to his team, speaking low. “Let’s go. He’s ungrateful, just because we have ing powers.”

When they got back, Seon walked in to inform Taehee of the situation. While he was in the office, Karam walked to his bedroom. He saw Minho standing by the bed, and Minho hugged him tightly. “I’m sorry for doubting your brother. It was very stupid of me…and I could have lost you today.” He cupped Karam face in his hands, kissing him gently. “I’m glad you’re okay.”

Karam smiled at him. “I’m sorry, too. I shouldn't have expected you to trust Seon immediately.”

Minho kissed him again. “Karamie, I should trust your brother. He’s in the right and he’s also your blood. I should have known he couldn’t be up to anything bad.”

Karam smiled again. “Well, at least everyone was safe today.”

“Yeah,” Minho replied quietly. “I don’t know what I would do if something happened to you.”
