i finally gathered the courage to do this...hahahahaha....actually i was scared because this group was confusing as hell n idk...if i'll ever be good enough to even understand what's happening...but at this point i feel that caring to spread the love is more important than being knowledgeably quiet, because i feel so bad for these talented kids, they deserved better...so...i just hope i didn't get it wrong...let's get it on....

Introduction:

PUREBOY called to my attention upon the participation of two members in produce 101 season 2. Actually, i might or might not have heard of them in the past...but the name itself sounded rather lame so i might have just dismissed them prematurely or not..idk...it's not easy keeping up with 8457486976586 kpop groups...especially for someone who's been into kpop for like 10+years. The 2 members are Lee Seokyu and Han Minho, both eliminated in first elimination, but the most significant thing you probably remember/heard of them through their time in the show was probably the bullying case of Lee Seokyu, as in he's the victim of bullying by three 'ex-members'.

But my interest in the two members after watching their team's story in produce 101(Call Me Baby Team 2...actually their part made me the biggest admirer for Jeong Sihyeon...the not-leader with the most badass leadership lol, but there's also the seemingly fragile n cute but actually brave n firm Lee Seokyu, one of the most magnetic/the best centers of the whole show imo-Han Minho, the rapper who actually had probly more solid vocals than the vocalists and helped carry the team's vocals from the background-Jang Daehyeon, the not-great leader but underrated good vocals n nice voice-Joo Jinwoo, and Kim Dongbin...yeah sorry idk what to say bout him...i guess he's brave in pursuing what he wants? not exactly a fan tbh...) made me want to get to know them better. 

And you might or might not be surprised, despite their rather lame group's name, they're good. well, you can see they're not really polished/coughsboringcoughs/ unlike those big company idols...but you can see great potentials...they have great vocals, refreshing choreo, and they're entertaining. So...i'm going to try help any of you who's interested to get to know them cuz why not?

Let's understand them through timeline: (just a rough one...i lack information)

- it started with a completely different five-membered group by the name Pure that debuted in 2013, disbanded in early 2014.

- in April 2014, Pure Boy(see point below for explanation)...with a bundle of members(not sure how many) released a song, 'All Together' but i don't think this was their official debut so moving on...

PUREBOY (original/first ver)

sorry...lazy to get pics for this one...no longer relevant anyway....

- in November 2014 the company wanted to revive Pure's name or sth i guess...hence the debut of Pure Boy, with 9 members...actually, in some sites, you'll see more members...but i guess the 9 member is the debut lineup...This is their debut song. i believe at this time, Seokyu hasn't joined them but idk when exactly he joined too...lol. when i looked at korean portal, it's stated that he joined during Pure-L(will be explained later)...but the bullying seemed to happen with the original members of Pure Boy so i'm guessing he joined after Pure Boy debuted but before Pure-L formed. Ah...okay, if you watched the video about his bully-victim incident, it's stated he joined in early 2015 when they're to be marketed to Japan. Therefore, Seokyu was the 10th member. and for the record, because they're kinda reincarnation of the unrelated group Pure, they had song that's remake of Pure's song, Wedding Day(i just found Pure's perf of Wedding Day so that's how i learnt about it)

NAUGHTY BOYS

- okay, so now...seemingly after the bullying incident took place, 7 members of Pure Boy left the group without notice(including the bullies) and started their own group Naughty Boys. Actually, there's another ver i read that Naughty Boys were the subunit of Pure Boy...it sounded very possible...from the name i mean...but...i'm guessing it's not. The confusing part is...where you see Sangyoon n Hayoung listed in Naughty Boy(and there's 9 members) but on some sources, they're stated as the members who did not leave, alongside Seokyu. So...my guess is...they left at first but came back??? idk...this part confused me...but they're stated as 'ex-members' of Naughty Boys. and i didn't even know if Naughty Boys debuted officially with albums n stuffs, but it was stated they debuted in October 2015. And they do have lots of performance videos in youtube, i guess they were active in Japan? or sth...okay another theory is...oh forget it...

PURE-L

- Then, Pure-L was made as a subunit of somesort to Pure Boy. There's Seokyu and five new members - Jinu, Haru, Hojong, EnL, Ki-O. They debuted in December 2015, with remake of Balloons which was a song made popular by dbsk but NOT a dbsk song originally. I'm guessing Seokyu was the only one from the old ver of pure boy in here, bcuz Hayoung n Sangyoon were probably still in Naughty Boys at this time. idk how to explain...don't ask...lol. I don't like this song...when i heard dbsk ver...i hated this song...but idk how...i feel like the rap and Jinu's highnote kinda made me fell for their ver...i just love how he pullled the highnote higher n higher...n it does sound less kiddish than dbsk ver though you might not notice it if you're watching with their horrid hair n style...

PUREBOY (current ver)

- in May 2016, there's new article i read saying they're back with Sangyoon and Hayoung, and also another (new?)member Gunhee. profile can be referred here. So, now PureL and the three members, forming....Pure Boy!!! hahaha... and their company stated that there won't be limit to their number of members bcuz they're applying akb48 kinda system where members come n go as and when. they didn't release anything but performed actively in Japan...they have their songs but i couldn't find it being released anywhere other than them performing the songs...i even see Korean fan asking about them releasing the song or sth...a shame bcuz they have some really good songs. and indeed, you can see the group performing back with Sangyoon n Hayoung

- in April 2017, Sangyoon, Hayoung, Jinu n Gunhee have left the group n debuted under the name B:Skit that so far...looks like they only promote in Japan too...i don't know if they'll be back or they left for real or whether this is just another subunit...or WHAT....but i was just starting to get attached to the members' antics...i'm gonna miss them...i like Sangyoon's charisma n Japanese style...i think that's influenced by his fluency in Japanese n how he's mostly the spokesperson though all members spoke Japanese too...he's always like the MC...n Hayoung was the foreign member of the group...he's Korean-American or sth i think...and Jinu's vocals...n Gunhee awkwardness...

- but you know whaaatt....their company instagram still upload pics with the seemingly ex-members....therefore...they might come back at any time!!!! (btw..they probly have new member that wasn't updated in profiles...yet. or whatever.)

you know what...i don't even want to try understand this madness anymore. whatever. i love them though.

 

i hope now you get some idea of this group. don't bother tell me if you don't understand or what...do i look like i understand this whole messy thing? lol.

 

ps: their latest release...not exactly the group....but Haru(their leader) and EnL(aka Minho) participated as featuring in another artiste's release after produce 101. well...something better than nothing i guess. hopefully there'd be good news for the group soon.

 

EDIT: i notice they have new members Minyeob n Dongil...but idk if these two have been in the perfs yet or what....whatever!!!! the confusion with this group is seriously driving me insane...lmao. n i really want to like them so this become even more torturous...

Finally...let's enjoy some of their songs/perfs. because i'm lazy i'll just share songs i've shared before...most of the songs i will share are songs that can only be found in their performances in their Japan tour. which means...not released...T^T...a shame bcuz i'd so buy some of these. n would love to see them promoted on music shows too. many are their old songs, or 'Pure's songs'...you know what...whatever. one thing that's clear...the song audios/recorded ver can't be found...so far...only perfs that i could find...T^T...

It's a shame they're in such confusing state n not actively promoting in Korea/Japan thru releasing album...and just performing...they're always performing live n they sound so good. how can you not love that? and i love/like most of their songs i heard so far.

- this was a song i didn't notice released anywhere...but they performed it quite  number of times...:( i wonder if this song was meant to be released by Pure-L, because the choreography only has space for six members each time...and even when they had more members on a showcase...when they perform this song, it'd be just six members. wait...aren't these six pure-l members? sorrry...i got mistaken...not all are pure-l members.

 

瞳をとじて (cover)

- Ki-O n Jinu on vocals, Seokyu on keyboard. (ZE:A covered this song too...but overall i prefer this cover actually...except for Siwan's adlib part...i wish i could combine this cover with that adlib part...maybe it's cuz i'm just never a fan of dongjun/hyungsik voices...)...Ki-O's voice is so angelic...n Jinu's voice makes me think he'd be good doing rock songs too.

 

난

- i'm not sure bout this song...probly their song too that wasn't released? old song? i saw perf of this song from 2015...but that wasn't this current pureboy...so it means this was probly old song of their uhm...pure? aaaaaaaahhhhhh mental breakdown. this perf was from 2016 though.

 

남자니까

- this was released by the unit Pure-L, together with Balloons remake. but in this perf it seems seokyu n ...hojong(?) didn't have singing part? they all look really good here though.

 

풍선 (remake)

- this is released n performed here by pure-L...they do perform it as full group too...

 

흰눈이내리면

this was released by old ver of pure boy i think...this is the new pure boy performing since old pure boy has turned to naughty boys.
