"can you just. stop. calling me that," daeun mutters under her breath, staring straight into boyoung's eyes. boyoung's been calling her with some weird nickname for the nth time now, and she's honestly tired of it.

boyoung scoffs in response, shaking her head. "come on, i do what i want," she says, letting out a small mocking laugh. daeun grits her teeth in annoyance, rolling her eyes.

"i have a name, and it's lee daeun. and if you're going to live with me, you're gonna have to stop acting so high and almighty because you're not," she spits out quickly, only to get another mocking laugh from boyoung.

"please, i don't want to live with you, and don't worry, i'm not going to," boyoung states, patting the younger girl's shoulder.

"yeah, i hope not."

at first glance, daeun already knew that she'd dislike this boyoung girl a lot. boyoung is exactly the type of person daeun hates—rich and spoiled. she just can't stand having the older girl around, especially with the amount of obnoxious comments coming out of . the nicknames especially irk her the most, because hello? we have names? boyoung seems to enjoy bothering daeun a lot, and as much as daeun tries not to care, she does get annoyed to bits.

daeun hates to admit it, but she's somehow lowkey jealous of how boyoung seems to have her life together (except for her many flings, daeun's definitely not jealous of that) and is not a mess like she is. of course, that just makes her dislike boyoung more, and it seems like there's no way the two could get along, unless some kind of miracle happens.
it’s 11pm. daeun harshly opens the door into her house, stumbling over her own feet and unable to walk properly. a loud noise fills the silence as she accidentally drops her soju can. she can hear yesung calling out her name from the kitchen, and at this, she starts walking faster—holding on to whatever she can hold on to, trying her best not to fall down—straight to her room.

when he knocks on her door five minutes later, she covers herself in blankets and pretends to be asleep. “i’m not going to fall for that,” he says in a straight tone, walking in.

she doesn’t respond.

“you need to stop. i’m serious,” he states, “you’re literally no different than dad, and you’re just making yourself miserable. you’re making mom miserable. you’re making it hard for all of us.” he’s standing in front of her bed, arms folded, waiting for her to say something.

she doesn’t move an inch, still perfectly buried under the blankets.

“shut up,” she finally mutters after a while, just loud enough for him to hear.

yesung and daeun were once the closest pair of siblings—she would always come to him whenever she needed help, whenever she needed someone to talk to. he was always there for her, and she was really grateful for his presence. he wasn't exactly the best listener—he gave her too much advices for her liking, instead of just listening to her and understanding—but hey, at least he listened. he would always spare time for her no matter how busy he was, and that was the one thing she was really thankful for.

when daeun first started drinking, she didn't tell him about it. she didn't tell anyone. she just started coming home late one day, obviously not very sober, and he just knew. they started drifting apart after, especially because she'd always feel guilty around him. she didn't want to interact with him too much, because she knew he would always try to say something about her new habits.

she tries to avoid him as much as possible now. he probably hates her anyway, and she doesn't want to hear him judging and nagging at her. out of all people, she'd expect him to understand her the most, but it doesn't seem that way and she hates it.

"okay, look! i can't wait to unbox my newest exo photobook and show it to you guys," shinji says cheerfully to the camera, waving her sealed photobook around. "they all probably look so good .. . oh god, i'm excited."

"gross," daeun says just loud enough for shinji to hear as she passes by. she just wanted to go to the kitchen to get something to eat, but seeing shinji talking alone in the living room, she couldn't help but to say something.

"excuse me?" shinji turns her head to look at daeun, clearly irked by her comment. daeun rolls her eyes, refusing to respond. just as shinji opens to say something, daeun slams the door of her room after entering, leaving the older girl speechless.

while shinji isn't as mean as boyoung, nor as creepy as joonyoung, daeun doesn't necessarily like her either. in fact, the way she whines and complains about a lot of things just bother her so so much. daeun can't help but to roll her eyes repeatedly whenever shinji's around, simply because she's so tired of shinji being noisy about everything.

shinji is two years older than daeun, but daeun feels like she's definitely a lot more mature in a way. daeun tries to ignore shinji's presence everytime she's around by looking at her phone, playing with her fingers, anything. she just doesn't want to have anything to do with the older girl, because she really can't stand the way she acts.

"if we're going to ruin the marriage, we're gonna need to work together. like actual siblings," daehan declares, looking at his siblings with a serious look on his face.

daeun nods lazily, eyes on her phone, barely listening to whatever her brother's saying. "i'm talking to you, lee daeun," he says with a slightly higher tone. at this, she takes a glance at him and nods another time, looking slightly annoyed.

daehan sighs and rolls his eyes. sunghoon looks at the two of them nervously, not really sure of what to say.

"alright, so .. .," yesung finally speaks up after two minutes of awkward silence, but stops when daeun abruptly stands up from her seat.

"jeongha's outside," she tells them, and before they could respond, she makes her way outside, slamming the door loudly behind her.

daeun has always been more quiet and careful around daehan compared to her other siblings. they were never really close, as the both of them aren't really the type to talk a lot. she used to care about him a lot, though, and he seemed like he did, too, eventhough neither of them showed it much.

they have really similar personalities, they're very much alike in many ways, and maybe that's why they clash a lot. they have different opinions on many things, and when they disagree on something, it makes it hard for the people around them because of the tension between them. instead of arguing, they usually just stay quiet and throw sarcastic remarks every once in a while.

when they're not mad at each other, they don't really talk either unless it's necessary. it's not like they're awkward with each other, but daeun feels like he dislikes her a lot, and she hates that about him. and so, she tries to ignore him most of the time, because if he can be cold towards her, she can be cold towards him too.

daeun slowly makes her way out of her room, rubbing her eyes lightly as she walks to the bathroom. it's almost two in the afternoon already, but she just woke up.

"good morning, daeun," she hears a cheery voice greet her, and she looks around to find the owner. the moment she sees kim joonyoung sitting down on the sofa and smiling to her, she lets out an awkward cough and nods hesitantly. she's still too sleepy to act cold, but she starts walking faster, trying to quickly avoid this weird guy.

"i hope you slept well! don't trip in the shower," he says, a bit louder this time. she shudders before turning to look at him. "uh, yeah, okay," she replies as she quickly opens the bathroom door, not wanting to interact much longer with him.

joonyoung's not as loud as his other kim siblings, and he seems a lot nicer than they are, which makes him the only kim child daeun can probably stand having around. his kindness does bother her a lot, though, because he's just a little too nice than it is possible—in these circumstances, anyway. she can feel that he's up to something, and the way he always smiles so brightly creeps her out somehow.

she always talks about him with sunghoon, about how weird he seems, and just how much he's hiding behind that smile. she puts on her most intimidating face when she's around him, because she doesn't want to interact with him too much. she doesn't dislike him as much as the others, true, but she'd rather not get too close to him either.

"noona," sunghoon says as he knocks on daeun's door softly. she squints her eyes and lets out a small grunt, her head hurting more than ever.

sunghoon takes this as a sign for him to enter the room, quickly making his way to her bed. "noona, mama's looking for you," he tells her as he squats down next to her bed, placing his hand on her shoulder.

she shakes her head slowly. "i have a headache," she says with a small voice. he bites his lip and looks at her for a few seconds before finally nodding, "i'll tell mom you're sick. and asleep."

she nods at his response, mouthing the words 'thank you' and reaching out to pat his arm before covering her face with her blanket again.

daeun honestly doesn't get how sunghoon's still so nice to her, even after she started drifting apart with everyone else. she knows she's a horrible sister, but she can't help it. she's just glad that sunghoon seems to be really understanding of her, much more than her older brothers.

she's definitely a lot less cold to sunghoon compared to how she acts usually—she gives him hugs, she listens to him talk, and she can genuinely smile when she's with him sometimes. she still keeps her straight face and her i-don't-care attitude most of the time, even with him, but it's not as bad when he's around.

she tries not to talk about herself too much around sunghoon, because she feels like she'd just become a bad influence to the boy if she does. she really wants him to grow up and be happy, unlike her, because he doesn't deserve to be miserable like she is. she loves him a lot, and she wishes she could be around him more, but that's practically impossible considering how the rest of the family seem like they hate her a lot.

daeun wakes up to the sound of a boy whining that morning, and as much as she wants to go back to sleep, the noise makes it almost impossible for her to do so. she covers her ears with the pillow, trying to stop the sound from bothering her, but it doesn't work.

"aaah, noona, buy me mcdonalds!" right outside her room, yongki whines to shinji with the most annoying voice daeun's ever heard, and she swears, if he wasn't much younger than her, she would've thrown something at him already.

for the next two minutes, daeun spends her time rolling around on her bed, trying to find a way to fall back asleep, but to no avail. tired of hearing the loud whining outside her room, she finally stands up and opens the door.

"i'm trying to sleep, so shut the up," she glares at yongki, and then shinji, and then proceeds to slam the door shut before going back to her bed.

maybe it's because he's the only one from the kim family that's younger than her, or maybe it's because he's just so loud at times, no one really knows, but daeun glares at him the most and acts the 'scariest' around him. she gets irritated by the smallest things he does and can't stand being around him for long.

she's thankful that he's not her actual brother and that she has sunghoon instead, because she doesn't know if she'd be able to deal with him—probably not. seeing him being clingy with his siblings is annoying enough, and she sure doesn't want to experience it herself.
