UNPOPULAR OPINION -- Beautiful Liar: Was it really plagiarised?

Starlights may OR may not know what I'm talking about but if you go to AKP or Koreaboo or just Ravi's Insta/Twitter now you'll know what I meant.

But if you're lazy,

TL;DR (it's really long tbh) basically this Chinese singer-producer Liu Xin was accused for plagiarising LR's Beautiful Liar and people are lashing at him because of this. In return, he mocked the fans saying that nothing can be proved unless the court says so, which from another netizen I found out also that in China, similarities within arrangements of songs that do not include the melody or lyrics are not considered as plagiarism, which is why he was confident.

Also his wife cussed at haters in Korean which wasn't a really clever thing to do??

At first I was super pissed off because WELL EVEN RAVI WAS SAD AND IT'S ONLY 2 DAYS BEFORE THEIR ANNIVERSARY AND LOOK AT FOKKING MBC MISTREATING AND DISREGARDING THEIR EXISTENCE THEY DO NOT DESERVE TO BE TREATED BY THE PUBLIC LIKE THIS but then I did some research on the "plagiarised" song and I found some really interesting stuff which did not make the situation any better because it's either HE is wrong or RAVI AND WE are wrong.

And here's why:

People normally associate elements of plagiarism with similarities in either the melody, beats, samples (aka the oohs and aahs and maybe like you can hear the Mario sound effect those are called samples too), and most importantly, the chord progression.

I don't really know how to explain what a 'chord' actually is, but if you play the piano, you can technically say that chords are what you normally play with your hand, or both hands if you're singing and playing at the same time.

For me, the biggest reason why 一人饮酒醉 (just gonna abbreviate it into YRYJZ later) was accused of plagiarising Beautiful Liar was because of the EXTREME SIMILARITIES in the chord progression used and the beat/rhythm loop in its second verse.

Here's a comparison between both songs:

But then few moments ago I decided to randomly search for other versions of this song and found out that the allegedly plagiarised version was actually not the original.

THIS is the original (bear in mind that the lyrics in this song are not the original - it was altered to match the Olympics season, but I couldn't find a clearer version):

Fun fact: the song's really ual and stuff and people hated it in the first place so *shrugs*

But that's not the point - the point is that this rap sampled Yiruma's River Flows In You. People who love Yiruma/play the piano/just know lots of songs will know what I mean.

Now the reason why I'm guessing that there's a misunderstanding is because of the chord progression.

Beautiful Liar, YRYJZ and River Flows In You all used the SAME CHORD PROGRESSION.
In fact I hate to say this but this chord progression is SUPER OVERUSED.
For example, Taeyang used it in Wedding Dress and Leo & Lyn's Blossom Tears also used the same chord progression in the verses.
It's nice but the more songs I can name the more it emphasises on how generic pop songs are becoming recently.
It's still beautiful though no wonder there are so many hits that use this chord progression

So in other words, other than the stance that says Liu Xin plagiarised Ravi, it could have possibly been a REALLY BIG COINCIDENCE that the way he omitted the sample, changed the key, added the vocals for his friend, and changed the beat pattern in this version sounded almost exact to Beautiful Liar.

Which means technically he really could have hadn't plagiarised him and Ravi's just 'being sensitive again'. *cough cough immature iKONiKs cough cough SMTM5*

In the midst of this guilt that I feel because I'm siding with Ravi doesn't get any better when I see a lot of Chinese Starlights making a lot of verbal insults towards the couple, which obviously is something I really hate (and the reason I left the ARMY fandom. I repeat: I still appreciate BTS but I will no longer address myself as a ARMY so don't misunderstand if I say anything weird or 'insulting' or whatsoever)
Like IF YOU'RE GOING TO RAGE BECAUSE OF A RACIST SLUR, DO IT. THE EYE FOR AN EYE RULE DOESN'T MAKE YOU A MORE INTELLECTUAL FAN.

But first of all, as much as the fans are being absurd with their actions, Liu Xin,s his wife, and the record label make even less sense:

1) If it was a misunderstanding, EXPLAIN AND EDUCATE THE PUBLIC. Don't just throw your "go learn your music theory before you fight me" bull and leave fans blinded by their love for their idols. Like I know that he had been receiving a lot of hate even before this controversy because of some really random haters (IDEK what's the origin of it TBH) but is that really the wisest thing you could do? As an adult human being? IDK because this totally sounds like something someone would do if they're caught redhanded and couldn't defend themselves, but since he's being sentimental due to the hate, maybe that could have been a factor to his irrational posts. update: PLUS if he used the loophole where similarities in arrangements are not cinsidered as plagiarism, does that mean he intentionally did it????? Or was he being plain clever???

2) His wife called fans *excuse my language* 'sons of a ' in Korean. Another quote from her: "Get the original producer to speak, or apologize." While the arrangers, ASSBRASS and Cho Yongho hadn't said anything, Ravi obviously wasn't happy, and now Jellyfish is preparing for a lawsuit. Oh well

3) Apparently the official channel that uploaded the MV took it down recently? It could have been a Youtube copyright infringement by Youtube because JELLYFISH PROTECTS THEIR IDOLS AT ALL COSTS *cough cough MBK cough cough Pledis COUGH COUGH OH GOD I HAVE LUNG CANCER*, but
a) if it was taken down due to copyright infringement, the video would still be there, except that it would be a black screen with a line of words explaining that it had been taken down due to claims, just like those music show broadcasts and stuff.
b) as an official channel, they could easily file a dispute because there is a button that allows you to do so (you'll know if you have had minor copyright claims on your channel content), but we wouldn't know if they did unless we get an update soon

So WHAT EXACTLY IS THE TRUTH BETWEEN THIS CONTROVERSY?

Also even though it could have been a coincidence there is just so much similarities I really can't help but mention this even though I'm trying hard not to sound biased even after knowing about the original they still sound SO similiar

But I guess all we can do now is act mature, stop the unnecessary hate on the wrong matter (eg his face, his talent, his marriage, his wife's s like someone posted a picture of a girl in a rather obscene photoshoot that's allegedly his wife? IDK and IDWK), and just bless VIXX with all we have because Shangri-La is such a beautiful release and their 5th anniversary is in less than two days

Let us all bless and thank them for being born

And not watch my cancerous cover of Into The Void jkpleasedo

I love it how everyone are like "this and this and this are all plagiarized" and they're talking about a pop song.

Like seriously. Even if two songs sound the same it can be a coincidence because do you guys know how much there is pop music in the world? Imma tell you: TRUCKLOADS. And if you dig deep enough, you'll always find one or more songs that sound much likely.
