Are you ing kidding me? Leave him alone jfc

I'm a couple months late on this but it still pisses me off. This article (posted below) about netizens exaggerated on Lay being rude during an award show because he has his hands in his pocket.

Even if he did have his hands in his pocket, have you netizens ever thought he might have been EXHAUSTED by all that he does to keep everyone happy or maybe he CUT his hand and he doesn't want to worry his fans about an injury???

I've stated this once and I'll state it again. Zhang Yixing does not have rude or malicous bone in his body. So for once in your entire lives would you think before writing.

I don't know how you sleep at night knowing your life goal is to hurt one of the kindest and hardworking idols. Shame on you.

EXO member Lay has been reportedly receiving flak for his so-called "rude" behavior shown during the recent 2016 Asia Artist Awards. Is the Chinese idol no longer the "unicorn" EXO fans claimed him to be?

In a report from AllKpop, Lay (real name Zhang Yixing) was said to be getting flak for his actions during the 2016 Asia Artist Awards held Wednesday night, Nov. 16 in Seoul. Lay's popular Korean idol group EXO was among the biggest winners during the awards show. The group bagged the highly prized Daesang along with other major awards including Asia Star Award and Popularity Award.

Lay's Action A Taboo In Korean Culture?

It was during EXO's acceptance speech for the Asia Star Award -- which they won alongside actor Park Bo Gum and Girls' Generation's Yoona -- that Lay's alleged misbehavior occurred. As per the report, a netizen shared two screenshots showing the EXO members while accepting their award with Park Bo Gum and Yoona behind them. In the photos Lay can be seen keeping his hands in his pockets, and the netizen pointed out that he did it throughout the entire time they were on stage.

Apparently, such action at a formal event like an awards show in the country is a taboo. As the Korean news outlet noted, keeping hands in one's pockets on such occasion "is extremely rude in Korea." This could be the reason why Lay's action attracted "derogatory" and "sarcastic" remarks from online users, with some targeting his Chinese nationality for his not being familiar enough with the Korean culture.

However, many fans were quick to defend the EXO member, saying his act does not warrant such adverse reaction. Given the fact that Lay is a foreigner, fans pointed out that he may not be fully aware of the customs and thus should not be attacked for his actions. Interestingly, while the news report quoted several demeaning comments from Korean netizens who described Lay as arrogant and impudent, a lot of commenters below the report called out the sensitive netizens for being rude themselves.

Lay As EXO's "Unicorn"

For many fans who idolize and support him, EXO's Lay is described as a kind and gentle individual. EXO and its fans are often calling him their "unicorn," according to Koreaboo. Not to mention, the Chinese singer-songwriter is known for being hardworking; he is the first member to launch his career as a solo artist this year. He even made headlines in October when he fainted at an airport due to exhaustion and lack of sleep from his constant promotional activities.

Lay released his Chinese album and music video titled "Lose Control" In late October. To commemorate this, SM Entertainment also released a teaser after which gave fans a peek at the behind-the-scenes of the MV shoot. The BTS clip did not just show the idol hard at work during shooting, but it also showed his "true colors" when the cameras are not rolling.

As can be seen in the video clip below, there was a particular instance when Lay saw his female lead in the MV walking across the oddly shaped platform he was sitting on. Without much thinking, the Chinese idol stood up and held the girl's hand to help her cross safely and get off the platform.

This -- among many scenes in the clip where he can be seen smiling and laughing with the workers on set -- shows how good-natured EXO's Lay can be in spite of his increasing popularity. Thus, his so-called "rude" behavior during the 2016 Asia Artist Awards may have been a result of exaggerated reactions of Korean netizens. But then again, it could also be just a simple misunderstanding, to say the least.

GASP. I REMEMBER THIS.
I get that Korean culture means that you have to be respectful, but ... it's not like EXO-L's mind if he has his hands in his pockets. I thought he looked really cool, actually.

I understand it may have been a taboo in Korean or culture of whatever but even then that doesn't mean he's being rude... Like they don't know his life... They don't know his story! Why they gotta point out the most unnecessary things.
