How I Got Into K-Pop

So I was on yt and I always saw a lot of new K-Pop fans comment at some videos especially at sunbae groups' videos, sharing how they were brought into K-pop. There were also those who become fans for quite some time already but does not even know or heard of older groups such as BEAST, INFINITE, MBLAQ, TEENTOP, 4MINUTE, SECRET, AFTERSCHOOL, etc. It's even sadder the fact that they don't recognised the still active older groups. It makes me wonder sometimes..are their popularity dropping? Or their musics are not their taste?

These new fans remind me of how I got myself into K-Pop and so I walked down the memory lane. I thought back to those good ol' days, back when K-Pop was so good (2013 and before), no frequent fan wars and artist collaborations were the 'thing'. It was great to see the artists performing each other's songs and their interactions regardless of gender (because now if anyone even make 1 sec of eye contact with the other, fans would say that they're dating lmao so ridiculous).

I've been into K-Pop since 2011 and I honestly think I'm in the category of the earlier generation fans.

I listen to anything and anyone, as long as they sound good, but if you're talking about bias then it has got to be these guys - BEAST (AROUND US), INFINITE, BTS.

I started with B2ST first; maybe because the era I joined was their best era, I mean they got really popular with Fiction so that's how I got to know them. Although Beautiful was the song that made me become a B2UTY hehe :D

Along the way, I learned about this other group too. INFINITE. It was the Paradise era but I don't really remember which song made me an INSPIRIT because Beast is my ultimate bias so I solely focused on them. But I thought Infinite is cool too so I listen to them and then BAAAMMMM I just know that I'm so into them too. ^_^

Occasionally I listened to other groups as well and liking some of them but none to the extent that I can really call myself as their fan. And then came BTS. I was introduced to them by my cousin at the time of their debut era. I still remember he said their performance on Mubank was so cool especially the dance break (No More Dream) and he showed me the video of it. I watched it from the start until the end, I admitted they were good but at the time I was not keen in looking for new groups to stan so I just acknowledged them only. Plus, they were wearing a lot of gold chains dangling on their necks and I don't fancy that kind of style so...yeah. But when Boy In Luv was released, I immediately loved the song! I loved the MV, the outfits, the whole concept! So I started to listen more of BTS, I listened back to their debut songs, and then I just fall in love with them. I think they are the only new generation group that really caught my attention and made it in my top 3 list :)

Why them, you ask? Well, why not? ;)

But of course, there are so many reasons to love them and I never regret being their fan. No matter what, these guys are the first to me. <3

Anddd all of them are oppas to me except Taehyung, Jimin & Jungkook. Lol so guess my age then.

Anyone else willing to share your story to me? I'd love to read it ^^

I got into K-Pop all the way back in the summer of 2009 I believe it was, so I've been in the game for almost about 8 years now. I was on youtube searching up and looking at different MMV's because I like them here and there, and so I was looking up one that I had seen before for the song Lolli Lolli by 36 Mafia, but instead came across one for the song Lollipop by 2ne1 & Big Bang. Now, back then I was mainly an anime and Japanese head, those being the things that took my interest the most (I'm not as about anime like I use to be now with things like kpop and my interest in Korean culture around) and so when I heard the song, I thought it was Japanese and for some reason didn't even know that Korean existed or whatever. Since I really liked the song, I decided to look it up, and that's when I found the music video and checked it out, that being my first kpop song, but it's not what officially got me in. Girls' Generation is how I ended up getting into kpop, for I discovered them and their music videos on the side bar, Gee being my first vid from them I think (either that or one of the other great classics). After that, I pretty much only listened to GG for like a really long time (like a good amount of months/year) before I decided to check out more and made my way through the other groups of SM (they're like my home/family company) and I loved all the artists I found from them. Then, I moved on to more groups outside of SM like 4Minute who ended being that first girl group that I really fell in love with, MBLAQ, Beast, Miss A, 2PM, Infinite, Boyfriend, BEG, Rainbow, etc. And that's pretty much how I got into kpop.
