Nowadays it's common to see idol turned actors on movies and dramas. However, it's still definitely uncommon to see them take lead roles only on their third, second, or even very first production. As this unusual case continued to occur with several SM Entertainment idols, an argument on fairness is taking over online communities.

In upcoming MBC drama 'Missing 9', EXO's Chanyeol will playing one of the superstars who ride on the airplane that ultimately crashes on an island. He may not be the main character, but he plays a crucial role. Another EXO member, Kai, will be taking the lead role in upcoming KBS drama 'Andante'. Netizens have already showered him with criticism for playing the main male character. And just yesterday, Red Velvet's Joy announced that she'll be playing the lead in upcoming tvN drama 'The Liar and His Lover'.

Netizens claim that idols turning into actors are not an issue. However, their jump start to the top is unfair. Some netizens claim that Chanyeol, Kai, and Joy's ability to land lead roles in dramas is an abusive use of power by SM Entertainment. It's also argued that it's unfair to rookie actors who struggle to take even small roles in productions. On the other hand, some netizens claim that SM idols have the right to take the lead roles as they too have worked hard for their roles.

Comments state, "Heol.. lead role? Isn't it the first time Joy is acting..? That's just too much..", "They don't deserve to be criticized but you know they're really given the 'golden spoon'", "It's an issue because they're playing lead roles from the start. Do you really think directors want to use idols for leads?", and more.

Do you think it's unfair that SM idols are landing so many lead roles in dramas?

I think it is ... in the first place they are singers and they should take it slow and start with small roles so not to affect their band schedule and get used to the life of an actor. As said in the article rookie actors have to work hard to even get a small role no matter how amazing they are. Everyone should be proving themselves in smaller roles first ... that's my view:/
