I noticed something...

Just an opinion.

I found myself re-watching the KBS Drama Awards last night just to feast on how intimate and beautiful my uri SongSongCouple looked during the hours in between 2016 and 2017. I never doubted them winning the couple awards (both Viu polls and KBS top picks). I would be surprised if they didn't win.

Anyway, I'm not writing another latenight musing post about them winning the Daesang, not even the other awards. I just wanted to share to you guys about something I found peculiar--yet heartfelt--in Joong Ki's actions.

For the benefit of those who have not watched the full event, there was this portion where all best couples came up onstage and each pair was given a token (a combination of trophy and bouquet), and were interviewed by Jun Hyun Moo (since his co-MCs Jiwon and Bogum also won awards lol). When SSC's turn came, they were asked to re-enact a few scenes in the drama, and they agreed to it (the Blood Type scene).

Everyone were swooning and screaming in unison when they did that cute scene from DOTS, but it seemed that Hyun Moo still wanted more from them, so when he asked Joong Ki on what other scenes was Hye Kyo adorable, Joong Ki answered that she looked adorable in the drunk scene.

Now things heated up when everybody started screaming that she re-enact that scene, but despite everybody screaming and the MC asking, Song Joong Ki did not allow that to happen.

"I can't deal with that. I just can't. I can't. No way."

That's where it got me. Since then, I can never get his reaction out of my head and I wondered why he said this in reply. It just did not seem like the Song Joong Ki we all knew, since I grew up watching his shows and knowing him as someone who would do almost anything to please the audience and fans, even if it was something he thought of as scary. (There was an episode in Dream Team wherein he was prodded to go bungee jumping and he literally shed tears because he was scared, and he didn't want to do it. In the end, he mustered up enough courage to jump.) He had to be in A Frozen Flower, he had to do outrageously funny and OOC stunts when he was in Running Man, and he's done a bunch of stuff during fan meetings, even eating durian during one of them. I knew him as that kind of actor but during that night when they were asked to do that scene, he was the first to decline.

I know, the burden was not placed on Joong Ki's shoulders. It was clear that the plight was focused on Hye Kyo, and so one might say that "why bother with that observation when that scene wasn't his 'spotlight scene'? He wasn't even asked to do it; it was a request to Hye Kyo, but he declines first"

That's precisely my point.

It wasn't his scene, and the reenactment request wasn't his problem. Tbh, he could've just stood there and watched as the crowd's voices cadenced in the hall, screaming and cheering, but he chose to decline a request that was not even directed to him--as if that scene was his own, and that he somehow had this sense of being liable of that scene, or rather the 'star' of that drunken scene.

Clearly, he was concerned and being thoughtful of Song Hye Kyo.

He saw how appalled she looked and how she froze beside him when the crowd cheered for her to re-enact the drunk scene and somehow Joong Ki knew she was becoming uncomfortable with the fact that she was being pressured to act aegyo drunk in public. He didn't want to put her into a situation where she would have to deal with the pressure herself, hence grabbing the mic from her and telling everyone he can't deal with that scene now.

I mean, for me, that was so unlike him. But it was heartwarming to see him do all the clearing out, taking the mic in his hands as if telling her unconsciously to "relax. I can handle this,"

He pretty much showed everyone that he doesn't mind doing anything for the audience and the fans, but he won't allow his 'best partner' to do anything she doesn't want to.

Now, how can they not be real?? He and Hye Kyo might be tight-lipped with their relationship status, and heck we can only speculate and cross our fingers that they are a thing but note that Joong Ki said in one interview that if he gets in a relationship, he won't go public about it.

"My dating style is not that special. But I have no plans to go public if I get into a relationship. I will do my best to preserve the emotion for the person that I like but also want to keep it a secret for that person."

I can't conclude things, but ya know... Actions definitely speaks louder than words. Whether Hye Kyo is his woman or not, it's crystal clear info to everyone that she's someone he values and has a special place in his heart.

This is just my opinion based on my observations. Feel free to let me know what you think with that gesture! It was really cute, btw...

I agree with you. And all of his gesture in kbsda tell us about how much he care about her. Hye kyo also seems very comfortable being around joong ki. I dont know if it bcz they are my bias, but i do think that there is something special between them. Even when they said they are just in sunbae-hobae relationship. And it remind me of what jasper cho said in happy together " i didnt see anything but noona dongsaeng relationship between them. But, it can be just an act (i think he wanna said they can just pretend like that in public)". When he said that, i though : well, thats may be true. They great actor after all.

That was a very adorable and kind thing to do. It's nice to have people like him by your side, always looking out for you, you know? He seems like a cool guy to hand around.
