On December 14, Chinese media outlets reported SM Entertainment's ongoing lawsuit against Tao of EXO fame had been dismissed by courts in China.

Reports stated the agency's suit against Tao for infringing on his exclusive contract failed. SM Entertainment stated, "The lawsuit in question is one of many ongoing lawsuits in China. As it's due to a translation issue, we plan to appeal immediately. This is unrelated to the lawsuit filed in South Korea. All the lawsuits related to Tao are still ongoing."

Tao's side came forward to say Chinese courts concluded he has the rights to his own name and portrait, and the courts do not recognize the exclusive contract with SME.
