Random drabble

Just a drabble I wrote months months ago. Somehow, I feel like posting it. Thank you so much if you actually read this <3

Jihoon woke up to the sound of the light rain beating against the glass window. Somehow, Jihoon could not sleep properly tonight. He sat up and leaned his back against the wooden head of the bed, eyes staring at the window blankly. Moonlight which filtered through the curtain lit up a small spot in his dark bedroom and for some unknown reasons, it enthralled Jihoon to go there. Lifting up his duvet, Jihoon escaped himself from the thick, cozy piece of cloth and headed toward the well-lighted spot. He latched the curtain a tad, gazed outside the window, and watched in silence as the fine drizzle sprayed from the night sky.
Unlike the previous nights, Jihoon found a solace at the moment. For the first time ever, Jihoon could witness the strange beauty of the dark that maybe not everyone had noticed it before. Magnificent and enchanting, Jihoon smiled as the soft melody of the drizzle pleased his ears.
It had passed midnight by the time Jihoon peered onto the small clock on his study desk. And that was when he spotted the chest. That one chest with white envelopes in it. No sender's name, as well as his address. The white envelopes that contained letters all addressed to him. Jihoon arched his brows slightly as he picked the envelope up and looked down at it. The pungent yet sweet fragrance of wild flowers swept over the room each time Jihoon opened the old wooden chest. How he missed it. That one person.
Heaving an inward sigh, Jihoon dragged the wooden chair gently and seated himself comfortably. He the bedside lamp and tore the side of the envelope, revealing the letter inside. As Jihoon pulled it out, the same, sweet fragrant filled the air and he felt composed for a brief second.
Slowly unfolding the letter, the beautiful cursive handwriting of the unknown appeared and Jihoon moved his eyes from left to right and left, reading every word written on the piece of paper.

Dear Jihoon,
I hope you are living well by the time you read this letter. How was your previous days? Were they good? If no, then it's okay. It's always okay to have some bad times happening in our days. That's normal. It should be like that.
Jihoon, have you heard of the word 'friend'? Have you ever wondered what does someone called 'friend' do to people like me and you? Have you ever thought of it before?
At first, I took it for granted. I turned a blind eye on this magical creature. I thought that I could live without them. But I was wrong. Totally wrong.
Friend is one of the most powerful being in this world. They are like superman and Voldermort. Both in one body. The way they enter our life, however, was not at all remarkable. It happens in a subtle way without anyone realizing it. Just like the soft breeze that caresses our cheeks and ruffles our hair, this magical person walks into our life without having to find the key to the locked door. That's how powerful a friend is to me. Sometimes it feels illogical.
A friend is someone who holds quite a large part of yourself. You are what your friends are. Some parts of them are also a part of you and that's why you have to choose your friend carefully and wisely. Their words can be the most effective remedy of all and their words can be the sharpest knife of all. They can make you feel alive again with a hug and they can kill you silently with just a stab. They will stay beside you through thick and thin, but when they turn their back on you, you will start thinking that the world is just a black hole full of nothingness.
But Jihoon, let me tell you something. The day when you eventually meet your once-in-a-lifetime friend, all those bad things would vanish into the thin air. Like dust when we blow it off the empty shelf to place our favourite books. No matter how turbulent the friendship is, the shelf will never feel empty. The books will always stay there. We just have to pick one and start reading again each time we forgot the story.
Friendship is a blessing. It's one of God's greatest gifts ever. Friend is the one who shows you the other side of life. The raw, rare, and incredible one. They give you those precious experiences that most of the time you won't get to experience in your entire life. They are like a door to another universe full of wild magic and weird things. A door to your inner desires and dreams, the ones you have no guts to achieve. Because they are you and you are them.
After a long year of loneliness and despair, I found a friend that is worth to be called friend. I found new hope through his smile, motivation through his touch, and inspiration through his gaze. Somehow, it feels like I was reborn as a new persona. With a new identity and a new life. Everything feels exceedingly good and wonderful that occasionally I can't put those ineffable feelings into words.
He demolished every wall I built. He broke every mask I wore. He tore off every layer I put on to cover my face. He did everything with his magic. The strong yet subtle magic only a friend could possess.
Jihoon, if someone smiles at you when you are wearing your grumpy look, don't roll your eyes at them in response. Instead, softens your expression and curves your lips into a reciprocate smile. If someone says hello to you when you don't even know them, don't say nothing in response. Instead, muster up your courage and says hello back to them. Why? Well, Jihoon, you will have no idea how incredible and magical these little things could do to people like me and you.

At times, Jihoon questioned himself if he was happy to be alone like today. Jihoon debated with himself if he could live with the magical being called friend. Because, at the moment, Jihoon was having his year of loneliness and solitude. A moment where the writer of the letter once gone through before he met his once-in-a-lifetime friend. At times, Jihoon wondered if he would meet his today.
One hour left before the next class began. Jihoon went to the cafeteria to have something quick to grab and nourishing before he endured another two hours of long and boring lecture about technology. The man's assignment was not done yet and little did Jihoon know, he was in the verge of being scolded and nagged and cursed by the man.
He sat down at a corner nearby the library where the wifi signal was the strongest and opened his laptop. With his mouth full of bread, Jihoon's fingers began to dance on the keyboards.
“Um, Jihoon, right? Can I sit here?” an unfamiliar voice rang through the air, breaking the stressful silence.
Jihoon lifted up his head, only to recognize the speaker as one of his classmate. Yet, Jihoon did not know what his name was. Jihoon gave the latter a single nod before continuing his work.
The latter smiled slightly and sat across Jihoon with his paperwork and a lunch set he bought from a cafe.
“Is that the assignment for Prof Kim's subject?” he asked.
Jihoon hummed in response without sparing a glance at the latter.
“I've done it. I've even printed it out. If you have problems with some part of the assignment, you can refer mine.”
The offer somewhat grabbed Jihoon's attention. In an instant, he shot the other an intense look.
The guy smiled an ineffable smile that attracted Jihoon in some unknown ways.
It was then Jihoon recalled something. Something from the letter he read last night. Before long, Jihoon softened his gaze and curved his lips into a smile.
     “I'm Wonwoo by the way.”
Jihoon simply nodded as he learned the guy's name. “Thanks, Wonwoo.”
Jihoon supposed that one only meets his once-in-a-lifetime friend once in a lifetime. Maybe just maybe, this was the moment.
