Writing Challenge | Accountability Partner #writinggoals

This is something me and my creative director/best friend, Haru (yongharu21) are doing following NaNoWriMo.

Maybe it's NaNoWriMo this year that's getting me all riled up. I've written so many blog posts in the last week alone, I think I've gone insane. I just get these moments of excitement that honestly make me want to share everything with everyone. Even if it's something no one really cares about. If I'm in your friend feed and you keep getting spammed by my blog posts, I apologize, lol. I just can't keep myself quiet with everything that's going through my head this month.

Basically, NaNoWriMo last year through me into a pit. I wrote so much in the first week, that I lost the drive to continue and wore myself out before even making it halfway. Because of that, I got really far behind and ended up writing so much in the last week/few days that it literally drained all writing abilities out of me, and put my writing skills out of proper commission for a year. Hence the stress, the hiatuses and the temporary deactivation of my account.

This year however, I kind became a NaNo Rebel, and instead of my goal being writing 50k to a brand new novel, that's never been written before, I decided to make my goal to just literally write 50k, period. Because that would've been a lot more than what I wrote in the past year alone, and the only way I could think to force me out of this slump. Because of doing this way, I have more material to work with, and haven't hit a slump on a particular story and find it impossible to go on. I'm taking it steady, too. Just meeting the word-count needed everyday, if not going a tiny bit over. So that way, I don't drain myself like I did last year. And so far, it's been really great (*knocks on wood as not to jinx it*).

Because it's been rather successful for me this year, (only nine days in, please don't let me be getting ahead of myself), I talked to my friend about trying to do something similar every month for at least the next year. Because we were both in that slump, and NaNo this year has helped pick us out of it, slightly(?). Maybe me more so than her, but it's forcing us to write without forcing us to write, if that makes sense. She's not being a rebel though, and the only words included in her count is from a new story, but that's beside the point.

We've decided to continue NaNoWriMo on for the rest of the year. Obviously not 50k every single month, cause we don't want to commit literary death, but smaller goals. Like, we've decided 15k is a nice amount for December, since it will make us write more, but also give us a slight break after NaNoWriMo, and for the Holidays. We will only have to write 484 words a day to make it to goal, and that's more than reasonable. And we plan to keep it stead throughout the month, so we don't get it all done in a week, and then don't write for the rest of it, cause we know we probably won't pick up again the following month for the new goal.

Steady is what's gonna help us write, and we're going to hold each other accountable for that. And also bring motivation through sprinting, and cheering, etc.

The goal will change monthly based on free-time and the amount of projects we have to work on, but overall, I think it'll be a nice challenge to take on, at least for six months to a year, and to get back into the writing scene properly.

I will actually, most likely, finish writing Fifty Shades of Jimin by the end of November, or be very close to it. So priority for me to writing during December will be the last bit of Fear of Falling, Fifty Shades of Bangtan, and What Am I To You?.

If you guys think you could benefit from doing a challenge like this, then you should definitely give it a shot. Writing something is always better than writing nothing. If you're stuck, just write and eventually more ideas will come that get you unstuck. The only true way around writer's block is to write.
