President Trump

The results of the US election just came out a few hours ago, yet my mind is refusing to process it as truth even after all media outlets have been bombarding my screen with Trump's victory.

Personally I live in New Zealand and the president of the United States has little impact on my life. I liked Bernie Sanders because he seemed like a genuinely nice guy and more worthy of the people's votes than either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.

But when it comes down to choosing the lesser evil...

I have to say I cannot begin to describe my hate for Trump. No I don't like Republicans and sometimes the Democrats go too far/don't do what they say they will do. But generally, I do not think that the human race can advance by shutting down others and throwing insults at people who have lived on the same piece of land as ourselves for the past few years/decades. At least Hillary doesn't scream about her ual es for hunky young men/boys on national TV. At least Hillary doesn't seek to shut the country's borders and decline all immigrants. At least Hillary doesn't make all the racial and ual minorities in the world fear for our personal safety and the violence of our neighbours across the street.

Trump is not the core of the problem; he is simply a symptom which has grown into a cancer. He did not create racism and ism and hatred in itself - he made it okay to talk about it and for people to feel like they are being disadvantaged for simply losing their privilege.

I talked to my parents and many friends after the election results came out. What surprised me was that the voices around me were all in support of Trump or passive about the situation. It was almost as if they weren't Asian living in a Commonwealth country. It was almost as if they weren't women who hear cat calls and fear ual assault when walking alone at night. It was almost as if they don't know what fear tastes that; that dull metallic taste that makes you unable to swallow.

It is beyond my comprehension why people would want Trump simply for his uniqueness; for his supposed political independence and for his eccentricity. He's supposedly not a politician. He is supposedly a business man. The people are so sick and tired of wealthy elites running the country, that they would rather a lying mysogynistic racist sit in the highest office of their country.

What did President Obama even mean? What did all his efforts to encourage equality and love and compassion mean, if 6 years later USA decides to simply revert back to the state it had been pre-WWII?

Stock markets are unstable. Canadian immigration application platforms have crashed. People are withdrawing funds and business confidence is decreasing. Mexico and China are two of the USA's biggest trading partners and Trump insulted them in his campaign - will he really legislate according to his promises?

I sincerely hope it was all just talk.

The talk has already done enough harm to domestic societal attitudes - please do not let it be confirmed by the law. Otherwise, WW3 may be just around the corner.

May the Constitution hold up against this president 2017-2020. May we all survive this and may all lives affects in USA find solace in those who remain clear-sighted in a world fueled by ignorance and blind anger.
