How do you guys write a fanfiction?

So I write a few fanfictions. Most of them are oneshots but there are a couple of chaptered stories. The thing is, it takes a really long time for me to update chaptered stories because I'd forget about it and sort of get bored of it. I was also busy then but now I'm not so busy so I'm trying to write as much as I can and update them slowly so that I'll still keep on updating even when I'm busy to write. I write in a document first, then upload it to AFF. But it takes so much time because I always try to think how would the next story connect with my story and like whether everything makes sense. I don't know if this is a good way to write but I'm wondering how do you write?

Thanks!

Pretty much what the others down below said and then some. Even though I haven't really gotten far with many of them, to me, I really like the idea of writing chaptered-fics more and feel like it suits me better than just straight up doing oneshots (there's nothing wrong with that tho, and pliss continue doing them if that's your thing). I get all sorts of ideas from many things: my dreams, songs, entertainment like movies and shows, straight up just coming up with ones, etc. Then when I get these different plots/ideas, I list them all down in a specific document where I know where they all are. Once it comes time to write, I get a listed idea then make new documents to set up like the outline and stuff, plus another for a place to specifically write the story, and more for other info that I need like character profiles and such. With like the outline document, I write out the description, extra notes to know, what I basically wanna do and include, the whole idea of the story, all that as references to look at whenever I need to. Then when it comes to actually writing out the story, I go to the word document made for the chapter writing, and write out what I have planned out for like the next few scenes thought up in my head (I also have the scene plans written at the bottom of the page with other extra notes to remind myself what I want to do, but I also tend to wing it or freestyle it as well, not everything is always planned out and it depends or whatever) and the process pretty much continues on like that.

With me, i tend to find a good song or drama to listen or to watch in order to enhance my imagination...otherwise,i read whatever & then if a random plot pops up in my head, i write down.
I carry my writin binder every where,so if i have any type of plot or quotes in mind,i jot them down so tht i wont forget.

I sit in front of my computer. Then I pull my hair a little while I stare at the document I have opened and blame myself for not having updated yet. Then maybe if I'm lucky I get a flash of inspiration and write 200 words and then I go on AFF to see if someone is social.

No, jk, I'm not good with chaptered stories either but when I write chaptered stories it 1) takes me forever to update and 2) require that I reread some of what I've already written to get back into the story.
Like dreamshade said, having an outline does help for the long chaptered stories because it's easier to follow the track. If you don't have that it's easy to get lost - and that makes giving up even easier. ^^

Have you tried writing an outline for your stories? It helps a lot since you are able to plot your story better and know where is it going. I have asked a question that might sound similar to yours. You can check it out in discussion section if you want. The title of the discussion is how to keep motivated. There are lots of advice from author and readers in AFF. I think it can help you with your problem :)
