Agust D : Min Yoongi's Mixtape

It is official! Our resident swagger boy, BTS' Suga, has finally released his mixtape.

Only an hour has passed since the MV for Agust D 'Agust D' has been posted on YouTube and it has already garnered more than 400k in views. This goes to show just how much we ARMYs have patiently waited for this and now that the long-awaited mixtape is actually here, we can't help but actually swarm in like bees and swoon.

Before I actually comment about the song and the music video, I would just like to give an excerpt of my personal letter to Suga that I've been keeping which contains details about he has been doing to me ever since he debuted along with other BTS members and my astounding admiration for him and his works. (I know this may not actually be read by him, but I'm still hoping that one day my words will actually reach him and make him genuinely smile. I hope to actually give him the actual letter, which will be translated to Korean, in person when they visit here for a fan meeting or concert.)

Suga, when you debuted, you weren't exactly at the top of the BTS chain. Realistically speaking, you were the underdog during your rookie days. Many fans at the time disregarded you. Many fans did not see your worth. Many fans chose other BTS members over you. I remember how much you were being compared to other idol rappers. But you were worth much, much more than that. So much more than that. Gradually, we ARMYs fixed our fandom and actually retained quality fans who now see you as a man that is so talented he can actually revolutionize the world of idol rappers. Slowly but surely, you changed people's perspective of you and they realize that you are a perfectionist of a musician who produces his own goods and makes sure that not a second of your song can be considered garbage.

Suga, you are a wonderfully talented human being. Can you believe that many are now calling you genius? Remember that time when an underground rapper dissed you and Rap Monster? Remember that time when there are some people who actually called you just another one of those generic rappers? Right now, people are actually calling you a genius. You proved each and every one of your haters wrong. You did it, Suga. Although you're not yet at the top, because I know you care more about your the outcome of your music than being rich and famous, you have done it and I know you will keep on doing it again and again.

Suga, there is no need for you to keep on exerting yourself. But if you feel the need to do so for you art, then keep on exerting yourself. Keep on making music. Keep on rapping. I have always been here for you. We, your fans, have always been here for you.

Now, onto my actual comment!

Suga, my boy, has pretty much outdone our expectations of him, and trust me, our expections were high! We, fans, set a bar and Suga came barging in with his song and actually destroyed that bar. Knowing him, he doesn't like being placed under certain standards.

Agust D actually made me really, really proud. Suga has been producing great songs even before this, but his mixtape just proves that he never, not once, lost his roots. In fact, he surpassed what people thought he'd become. Deep inside that derpy, sometimes indifferent (according to Taehyung) idol rapper, is the compact essence of being an underground rapper.

You were definitely being real here, Suga! And being real is what made you one of the most brilliant rappers of this generation!

This is him on him natural state. This is him on his natural habitat. Agust D is him being free of what people want him to be. Soompi is right! Suga spat fire and I am willing to bet my entire life that that fire cannot be handled by everyone.

Bullet after bullet after bullet, Suga definitely spat out what he believes in and what is the truth for him. He made sure that his listeners know he's in an entirely different league, that he's not inside the K-Pop box.

Using just this song as a point of reference, Suga demonstrated the best of his abilities and, forgive the profanities I will be spewing, but godd*mn motherf*ck*ng son! This boy is definitely an all-around rapper! He can rap slow R&Bs and he can rap FAST hip-hop tracks. What can this man not do? (Aside from singing because that's totally not his forte.)

Aside from Rap Monster, Zico, iKon's Bobby, Winner's Minho, Suga has also substantiated the liberation and preservation of the true core and principle of rap in this wretched K-Pop world where rapping is the alternative for not being able to sing.

Right now, I just want to listen to all of the songs he produced, in silence, and bask in the beats he magically strung. You guys should, too!
