(I already talked in a couple posts about this on Tumblr and elaborated about this on Twitter, but I find it necessary to speak about it where it happens the most.)

Misgendering Jeonghan, whether for the sake of a fic or otherwise, needs to end.

The stuff I talk about in this blog post is in no way meant to target an individual, but to inform the Seventeen fic community about an issue that hasn't seemed to end. Whenever I scroll through Jeonghan's tag on AFF, there's always at least 3-4 fics per page that involve __ being confused about Jeonghan being a girl, or Jeonghan being the "mother" of children in parent!au's. We as a community need to start being aware of this and actively write fics that promote Jeonghan being a guy and being percieved as nothing but a guy. 

If you're going to write a parent!au with Jeonghan, please don't make him the mother or ever refer to him with female pronouns. He's a man and people can have two fathers. If your plotline is solely relying on ____ being confused about their uality because of Jeonghan "looking like a girl", stop right there and rethink your plotline. It's not interesting or fun to read especially when that whole trope has been overdone already and it's insulting.

By the way, if you write genderbend!au's or anything where your character is ACTUALLY a female or male, this isn't as applicable but something to take note of. If you just consume fics but don't necessarily write, then please let fic writers who do the above know that it's harmful. I've been quite wary of then recently and am probably going to speak up and say something from now on if I come across it. And fic writers, please take these things into consideration when writing stories for ANY group (I see this a lot in EXO fics /coughluhancough/). We need to all stay aware of this and of course, please don't feel bad if you did this in the past without knowing. I hope this post cleared it up for you and moving forward, avoid it please!

(9/20/16) So it looks like people sort of misunderstood and thought I said don't write at all. I admit, I wrote this post quite hastily because of a little tiff I got into on another site regarding Jeonghan and his masculinity. If I caused any sort of discomfort, I apologize. However, my point about misgendering Jeonghan remains the same.

When parent!au fics do not state that its genderbend!au, this is the impression I get if you switch pronouns out with Jeonghan every other paragraph. I will assume that it's somehow abnormal to have two male dads. I will assume that people either don't care about respecting an idol's gender identity at all, or that they can't possibly imagine seeing two dads having kids. Either way, it's really not okay.

And AGAIN, I'm not saying that it's not okay to genderbend at all. It's fine. If it's part of a plotline, it's fine. It's NOT okay to misgender him simply because he "looks like a girl". He's corrected people when they refer to him as a lady and has said so many times that he's a guy. That he'd like to be treated as one. It doesn't matter if it's in fic or out of fic. It's not okay. Period.

Write all the fics you want. If you're okay with misgendering, then that's on you. Just don't expect me to not get angry. That's it.
