A Muse Review + K Movie Recommendations

The last Korean movie I watched was called Eungyo (or the English title, A Muse), and it was really good...I wouldn't recommend it for people younger than 18, but I found it to be a very beautiful story. I don't think younger people would understand the story very well, however if you want to give it a try, go ahead. And then watch it again when you're older.

(Side note: I always do this with Korean movies and dramas, but I end up falling in love with characters even if they're not meant to be fallen in love with; I can't help it! Korean guys are so good looking :\ Anyway, Kim Mu Yeol has a new fan because he is HOT even though he's married...and I can't hate his wife because I love her too XD Also Kim Go Eun is really a treasure; I think it'd be awesome to be friends with her.)

SO, this got me thinking, I'd like to share some of my favourite Korean movies with you guys! I'll list all the ones I've watched so far, and then I'll asterisk (*) the ones I'd highly recommend, okay? I will tilde (~) the ones I thought were so-so, and I will give you my thoughts on all the movies. Here we go.

  1. My Black Mini Dress
    • This was the first ever K movie I watched, and I watched it for Yoon Eun Hye, because the first drama I ever watched was Princess Hours. I didn't know how else to find movies so I just searched up the actors in Princess Hours to find films. It was an okay movie, but I wouldn't tell anyone to watch it...It's a chick flick? But I didn't find it very fun: it had dark undertones which doesn't fit very well in a chick flick.
  2. The Thieves
    • So, this movie had reviews of "Korea's Ocean's Eleven," and I thought it couldn't go wrong...It was all wrong. Nothing like Ocean's Eleven. Worse than Ocean's Eleven. The only good parts were Kim Soo Hyun, but even then, he didn't appear as much as I would've liked.
  3. The Jackal is Coming
    • I thought I would really like this movie too because a) Song Ji Hyo, b) there's action, c) Song Ji Hyo, d), it's a comedy, and e) Song Ji Hyo. But it was kinda weird. To me, the story line was hard to follow and I just ended up being confused at the end. I also came to realize that Korean film endings are a lot different from N. American ones: Korean conclusions are usually open ended/bittersweet/sad while American ones kinda leave you with a sense of hope/happiness.
  4. A Frozen Flower
    • ...So I wrote an entire explanation for this movie and deemed it really confusing. Basically, it was great seeing Song Ji Hyo (and Jo In Sung), but if you're a fan of hers (and/or his) and are under the age of 18, please don't watch it. The reason I didn't like it is because of the last 30 minutes. The end was horrible.
  5. ~Some
    • When I tried watching this movie the first time, I didn't finish it. The beginning was very slow and I found it really boring so I stopped. I picked it up again a year(?) later and I found that I enjoyed it. It's a bit of a thriller, but it's worth it. It was nice seeing Song Ji Hyo and Go Soo together, and I liked their dynamic.
  6. *Cold Eyes
    • Oooooooh boy. I really liked this movie. A bit of excessive gore, but Jung Woo Sung's villain character gave off a tortured soul vibe...He's honestly why I liked the movie so much, even though he was the guy everyone was against. There's one particular death I didn't like, but you'll have to watch it to find out who's. Han Hyo Joo was also good, this role made me like her a lot because I saw her diversity: she played someone other than a girl someone falls in love with.
  7. ~Love 911
    • This was the first Korean movie I actually enjoyed because the ending was my favourite, but I'm giving it a tilde because the second time I watched it, I found it didn't live up to how I felt the first time I watched it, if that makes sense. It's an action romance and I thought the different characters portrayed in the movie were fantastic. The supporting cast was probably my favourite part of it all, because they had great comedic timings and emotional performances. Han Hyo Joo and Go Soo were great too (I watched this movie because of their appearance on Running Man) and I really enjoyed their chemistry the first time, but the second time I found that it was a little forced. It's still a good movie though, I liked it.
  8. ~Always
    • Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeh, I really liked the beginning. I thought it was a really sweet start. Then the male lead (So Ji Sub) went off and did something stupid and then I didn't really like it. It ended well though, I guess, but he was still stupid.
  9. *The Beauty Inside
    • It was good. And sweet. Trust me. One I'd watch again.
  10. ~Heaven's Postman
    • Yeeah, this one is all Kim Jaejoong from JYJ: he's freaking gorgeous. I didn't think he was all that attractive in The Jackal is Coming, so I didn't expect a lot from him in this one, but he was phenomenal. The subject was really interesting too.
  11. Confession
    • OKAY I have mad beef with this one. So dark. Kinda ridiculous. Lee Kwang Soo is in it, and he played a pitiful character...Like so pitiful it was depressing. The end was dumb too. Just, no.
  12. *As One
    • Based on a true story, and all movies based on true stories are good, I think. Bae Doo Na (IS MY BAE OMG) and Han Ji Won made a good team (pun intended), and I've cried every single time I've watched this one (yes, I've watched it more than once because it's that good).
  13. ~Tazza: The Hidden Card
    • Big Bang's TOP. That is all.

No, that isn't all. But it should be. Anyway, it's the sequel to Tazza: The High Rollers (which I haven't seen because there's no TOP) and you don't have to watch the prequel to understand what's going on. There are references, but I still got the gist.
It was a decent story line but a little confusing. The acting was a little eh as well but I think that was the director's doing, with the editing and all.
  14. Kiss Me Kill Me
    • THIS WAS A WEIRD MOVIE. Not weird like gross weird but weird as in WHY THE HELL WOULD SHE DO THAT. I liked the end a lot though. Slightly bewildering but good.
  15. How to Use Guys with Secret Tips
    • Haha, this movie reminded me a lot of an American movie, although I can't remember which one it is now (and no, it's not How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days...I don't think I've seen that movie yet anyway). There was cheese everywhere and I cringed a lot. In all, not something I'd recommend. I honestly watched both #14 and #15 for Kang Hye Jung. (--> I'm going to talk about Oldboy here because it doesn't deserve a number: do not ever watch this movie. I mean it. KHJ is in it but I didn't realize it was her until way later and I didn't like knowing it was her. The subject matter is extremely disturbing and I found myself wanting to throw up at the end of it. I watched it with a group of friends [bad call] and we watched it to the end because it had gotten a lot of awards. If I could go back in time, I would have made us stop watching it well before the end. Plus, I knew a lot of variety shows made reference to it, like Running Man, so I thought it would have been good. Wrong. All wrong. You've been warned, do not watch it.)
  16. ~The Grand Heist
    • I enjoyed this one. It's a good chill and play Candy Crush kind of movie. Cha Tae Hyun is in it and I thought he was adorable. The only problem I had with it was some acting parts: they were kinda awkward.
  17. *Hello Ghost
    • I didn't see the end coming. At all. And I cried so much. Good tears. So yes, watch this one.
  18. ~The Divine Move
    • I liked it...And I didn't like it. I liked it because of the actors, they all did such a good job. Like Choi Jin Hyuk. Nuff said. He's gorgeous. Even though he plays a bad guy.
I didn't like it because it was dark. A lot of people died and it made me sad.
  19. *Hot Young Bloods
    • This was a fun one. Seeing Park Bo Young in a bad girl role was hilarious and amazing at the same time; Lee Jong Suk was also interesting to see in the character he played; and holy I fell in love with Kim Young Kwang so hard, I immediately watched the web series Dr. Ian (which also has 2NE1's Dara in it, and then she made me watch all her other web series). He's beautiful. So yeah, good movie: funny, cute, heart-wrenching.
  20. ***New World
    • Literally my favourite Korean movie to date, which is why it has three asterisks. I didn't see the twist at the end coming, and everthing leading up to the twist was amazing. Initially watched this for Song Ji Hyo (of course), but she didn't have a lot of screen time. The plot made up for it though. Seriously worth it.

Well that was an adventure. Got any movie recommendations for me?

PS. I might do this for dramas/web series as well, but I haven't watched many: I don't watch dramas very often because they're too much of an investment emotionally and time-wise, and I get in so fast and so hard.
