My First Kpop Videos {Girl Groups}

I was a late comer to girl groups. For the longest time I swooned over male idols while resenting female idols. Looking back on it, It was very childish of me. I envied their perfect faces and bodies. I envied how gracefully they danced in heels. I'm still envious to this day. But eventually I learned to get over my immature tendencies and now I love girl groups. I still remember some of the times I stumbled upon my current favorite groups with a skeptical eye and hidden appeal.

Girls' Generation - Gee

Let's be honest here. Minho looked hella weird back in the rookie days haha At the time I first watched this I knew absolutely nothing about SM, SNSD, or SHINee. I was just a curious clicker. Not used to seeing such cuteness, I almost couldn't finish the MV. But when I stumbled upon Genie shortly after, I knew that GG were some very special people. Those two songs sometimes creep into my brain and I hum and dance to them shamelessly. Sone/Soshi or not, these songs are catchy and timeless to Kpop fans all over the world.

F(X) - Electric Shock

I'm almost sure this song was my 1st f(x) song. I think Hot Summer was my 2nd. I remember Simon and Martina did a music monday about this song and I went to watch the video. The song was great and the members were gorgeous, however I didn't become a fan until months, possibly a year after. I don't remember my reaction. I was probably shocked by the bright colors and Amber's boyish looks. I thought that all female idols were girly and cutesy. I was so wrong. I know one thing is for sure, I was totally oblivious to the fact that one day this group would become my favorite and take over my life!

2NE1 - I Am The Best

These days, nearly everyone knows 2ne1 or at least CL. But back in 2012, I had no clue. I didn't have to look far to find them though. It seems like they were so influential that after a couple clicks they fell onto my computer screen. This was a group I had no doubts about even from the very beginning. While f(x) was too weird and snsd was too cutesy, this group was right up my alley. I was thinking who are these ladies?? I want to know more about them!!

Sistar - Cool

Ah... Sistar was classy even in their fetus days. By the time I saw this, I had already started liking girl groups so I had no negative remarks about this MV. The song is so energizing. I didn't know at the time that summer hits is what they are famous for, their specialty if you will. But Sistar has definitely grown over the years and they seem to get better and better with every comeback. And their not-so-stick bodies were definitely relieving.

Ailee - Heaven

I'm not sure at what point I started loving Ailee. It seems like I woke up one day and labeled her as my favorite female vocalist without even knowing much about her. But I know that this was my first song, I was in awe from her singing. She has strong and stable vocals that are more alto. You usually don't hear deeper voices in Kpop. I guess that's what made her stand out to me. I'm glad she's a solo artist so her full talents can be displayed.

AOA - Miniskirt

Before I saw this video in my Youtube suggestions I never gave AOA the time of day. Everyone was obsessed but I looked the other way. Within the first few seconds of the song when I heard the BRAVESOUND part, I knew that this was going to be dope. In addition to that, it was y and I love y concepts!

Exid - Up and Down

I have a feeling that Up and Down was almost everyone's first Exid song. It seemed like has their popularity grew overnight with the release of this song. I, on the other hand, was late to he party. I didn't hear this song until 2015. But I was completely obsessed with it. I even tried to learned the dance. Exid is now one of my favorite girl groups. Solji's voice gives me life all day everyday <3

Miss A - Good Girl Bad Girl

These girls are so badass!! Who's the girl with the pink hair?? I like her!! Months later, the pink haired one, Jia, become my bias LOL Even as rookies they slayed. And their newest music comtinued to slay my life as well. My 2nd MV was I Don't Need A Man. That song was stuck in my head for weeks.

Wonder Girls - Like This

I think one of the reasons I like girl groups so much is because their dances are amazing. Their creative but easy enough for someone who can't even dance to to save their life (like me) to learn it. And that's exactly what I did. It was the first Kpop dance I ever learned. I still don't know a whole lot about WG because they have so much material out, but this song never gets old.

4minute - Volume Up

I remember Simon and Martina did a Music Monday on this song and for the first time I successfully convinced myself to watch a 4M MV. For the longest time, I thought that this group was trashy, mainly because of Hyuna and her reputation. I now know that that was a big mistake. I was so surprised that I loved this song so much. 4M is so talented and they have so many great songs.

Spica - Tonight

The song is not my favorite Spica song, but the vocals definitely left me begging for more Spica. The MV also gets an A+ in my book for creativity. I haven't seen them much these days, but they will never be gotten.

After School - First Love

What I way to be introduced to a group... I swear after watching this I wanted to sign up for a pole dancing clsss immediately. Unfortunately I was too young at the time and hella out of shape for this exercise. I still am haha But After School is so underrated. They did such a controvercial and impressive dance, but not many people mentioned it. It's ashame. Not to mention, Orange Caramel is amazing but gets no recognition T_T

Tara - Day By Day

I don't listen to Tara much these days, however I loved them back in the day. The plot to this defnitely had my eyes glued to the computer screen. I think I might've even cried. Plus the song is really beautiful and well composed. The flute melody gives the song life.

Girl's Day - Expect Me

Suspenders have never looked so attractive and y to me. GD slayed my life with this song and dance. I was hooked on this group from the first song I discovered.

Secret - I'm in Love

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YpatVVhT-Io

I had no idea Secret even existed until I stumbled upon this song. They have been out for a while too. This song gave me life and I quickly looked up everything they released before it. They have many good songs.

If I missed a group I either don't follow them, I don't remember the first video I watched (Apink, 9Muses, Kara, Brown Eyed Girls), or I've been following them since debut (Red Velvet, Twice).

What was your first video by your favorite Kpop girl groups??
